‘Real Women Have Curves' Announces Broadway Closing
Real Women Have Curves: The Musical will play its final Broadway performance on June 29 following 31 previews and 73 regular performances. The musical opened April 27 at The James Earl Jones Theatre to mostly favorable reviews, but never really caught on at the box office during a spring that saw huge receipts for star-driven productions. For the week ending June 15, Real Women Have Curves filled only 63% of available seats, grossing just $365,252 with an average ticket price of $68.63. More from Deadline 'Oh, Mary!' The musical mixes family drama and self-acceptance with larger social themes about immigration, with the threat of deportation ever present. 'We have been working on developing this show for the last five years and could have never predicted that when it made its way to Broadway it would be timelier than ever,' said producers Barry Weissler and Jack Noseworthy in a statement. 'Bringing this joyful immigrant story that explores the American Dream to the stage has been an honor and a responsibility that we don't take lightly, especially in today's political climate. 'We are grateful,' they continued, 'to our company and audiences who made it all possible, and especially applaud our cast's courage, vulnerability, and authenticity in telling this story each night. Though our run on Broadway is coming to an end, we are very much looking forward to the future life of Real Women Have Curves and continuing to bring this important story to new audiences.' The musical received two Tony Award nominations – Best Original Score and, for Justina Machado, Best Featured Actress in a Musical – but went home empty-handed earlier this month. The musical stars Broadway newcomer Tatianna Córdoba, Florencia Cuenca, Shelby Acosta, Carla Jimenez, Aline Mayagoitia, Mauricio Mendoza, Mason Reeves, Jennifer Sánchez and Sandra Valls. The musical was directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, with music and lyrics by Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez, and book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin. American Repertory Theater (A.R.T) at Harvard University produced the musical's world premiere in 2023. Roastmaster Jeff Ross Lands Venue For Broadway Summer Stand, Sets Opening Date
Emmy-nominated comedian Jeff Ross will bring his new theatrical solo show to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre this August. While a Broadway run was previously announced, the venue and opening night are being announced today. Jeff Ross: Take A Banana For The Ride will begin previews at the Nederlander on Tuesday, August 5, with an an official opening night on Monday, August 18. Continues the synopsis, 'this exhilaratingly intimate one-man show offers a peeled back look into the heart and soul of America's Roastmaster – but don't expect to get away un-skewered.' Take A Banana For The Ride will be directed on Broadway by Stephen Kessler, with creative consultation by Jeff Calhoun, and dramaturgy by Seth Barrish. The show is produced by Eric Nederlander, Robert Nederlander Jr., Marc Cornstein, and Tony Eisenberg, with ShowTown Productions serving as Executive Producer. 'Ever since my Aunt Bess took me to see Jackie Mason on Broadway when I was young, I've daydreamed about performing my own classy and uncensored one-man show,' said Ross in a statement. Netflix Adds Yahoo To Its Roster Of Programmatic Advertising Partners
Netflix has added Yahoo's demand-side platform [DSP] to its roster of programmatic advertising partners. In a blog post, president of advertising Amy Reinhard called the move a 'milestone' and said it will 'enable clients to buy Netflix advertising through Yahoo programmatically.' The Trade Desk, Google Display and Video 360 and Microsoft are already working with Netflix on programmatic ads. Although much of the process is automated, it still requires human oversight. The latest partnership, unveiled during Cannes Lions, follows Netflix's announcement last month at its upfront event in New York about enhanced targeting capabilities. The streaming giant has said its ad tier now reaches 94 million monthly active users, up from 70 million last November. As streaming continues to expand, the role of DSPs is gaining wider attention. Along with Monday's news from Netflix, Amazon and Roku also announced a groundbreaking partnership. The collaboration will combine Amazon's DSP with Roku's streaming capacity, allowing ad buyers to reach more than 80% of connected-TV households. 'Our focus has always been to offer the best advertising experience to our clients and members, and we're excited to continue to give advertisers the ability to reach the most engaged and attentive ad-supported viewers,' Reinhard wrote. Partnerships like the one with Yahoo 'are all about giving our clients even more options to buy against the incredibly engaged global audience coming to Netflix to watch their favorite series and films every day.'
