BJP condemns vandalism at Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, holds protest rallies across Tripura
The BJP on Saturday took out protest rallies across Tripura condemning the recent vandalism at Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh. Apart from the state capital, Agartala, protest rallies were organised at Kailasahar in Unakoti district, Raghna international border area in North Tripura district, Sonamura in Sepahijala district, and Belonia in South Tripura district. Protesters were seen trying to breach barricades at some places; however, there was no report of any kind of clash anywhere. 'We all know that the ancestral residence of Rabindranath Tagore at Sirajganj district in Bangladesh was vandalised on June 11. We strongly protested against it and condemned it… We never say that Rabindranath Tagore was a Hindu poet; he was Biswakabi. We assembled at Raghna to protest against the vandalism,' said Bagbasa BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath. A senior police officer in Unakoti said adequate security was deployed at the rally in the district to maintain law and order. At the protest rally in Sonamura, former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik criticised Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh's interim government. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, who joined the protest rally in Belonia, said, 'This kind of incident (vandalism) will not be tolerated by the Government of India and the Tripura government. As part of the statewide protests, we hit the streets in Belonia.' Meanwhile, Tipra Motha party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma wrote on his Facebook page, 'We condemn the vandalising of Kabi guru Rabindranath Tagore home in Bangladesh. He not only wrote our national anthem but also that of present-day Bangladesh. How ungrateful can some people be to first vandalise Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statue and now Rabindranath Tagore's home! Not to forget that they also burnt down Maharaja Birchandra Library in Comilla. When will we realise that these people are one of the most ungrateful people around?' A Tipra Motha delegation led by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Tripura Governor. In the memorandum, the BJP alliance partner urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to directly oversee the process of detection and deportation of illegal migrants who entered the state after March 24, 1971. The party also demanded the setting up of a special central task force for the detection and deportation of illegal migrants.

Tipra Motha demands immediate detection, deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Tripura

'We have seen that other states are doing it. But the Tripura government is silent. We appeal to the government to take strong initiative regarding the notification. As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons, and two Nigerians were arrested between January 1, 2024, and February 28 this year for staying illegally in Tripura. ‘Disrespect' towards Pradyot Kishore: Tipra Motha youth wing shuts down govt offices in Tripura's Gomati district
The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma's Tipra Motha, Monday went ahead with its shutdown of government offices in the Gomati district. The YTF is protesting against the alleged disrespect shown towards party supremo Pradyot Kishore and Purna Chandra Jamatia, Chief Executive Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, when the duo went to meet the Gomati district magistrate in his residence and were turned back at the gate Sunday. The Tripura Police made adequate arrangements to tackle the agitation and deployed thousands of security personnel. Hundreds of agitators attempted to breach security barricades and engaged in scuffles with the police. 'There will be deployment of nearly 1,000-2000 police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel. Besides, we have been given civilian officers and experienced officers from the police headquarters. Our primary objective is to ensure that no one interferes with any official duty. We are trying to ensure less inconvenience for the public. For this, we have separate arrangements for traffic,' said Souvik De, Additional Superintendent of Police, a day before the shutdown. Pradyot Kishore attended an event in South Tripura Sunday and was travelling to Agartala in the West Tripura district. On his way, he reached out to Gomati District Magistrate T K Chakma, whose residence is in Udaipur, which is on the route to Agartala. However, the Tipra Motha leader, who was accompanied by Jamatia, was allegedly denied entry by the security guards at the gate. Pradyot told journalists that he had been trying to get in touch with the DM regarding some administrative issues, but his phone calls had not been answered. The YTF condemned the incident, sought action against the DM and declared a shutdown at all government offices in the Gomati district. YTF President Suraj Debbarma stated on Sunday that if the Tripura government does not take action on the issue, the agitation will spread to other districts of the state. Tipra Motha is a ruling ally in the BJP-led state government.

Tipra Motha MLA demands 'operation detect and deport Bangladeshi intruders' in Tripura
Agartala, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma on Wednesday urged the Centre, the state and Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council to launch an "operation detect and deport Bangladesh nationals" who are residing illegally in Tripura. A large number of Bangladesh's illegal migrants and intruders are residing in different parts of the northeastern state, and the Rohingyas are also making entry to the border state, he told reporters. Earlier, the MLA wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the illegal entry and stay of Bangladesh nationals, urging him to push back all the illegal migrants to their origin. Debbarma said, "Bangladesh intruders sent their sons to Indian madras, specifically in Sonamura, Kamalpur, Kailashahar and Dharmanagar. All are border subdivisions.. The MLA also lamented over the inaction on the part of the government agencies to address the problem. "The state and the TTAADC administration remain silent on the important issue. In the wake of Indo-Pak tension following the Pahalgam terror attack, the presence of Bangladesh citizens is seen as a threat to national security as they are aligned to Pakistan," he said. "Therefore, I appeal to the Centre, the state and the TTAADC administration to look into the matter seriously. In Delhi, Gujarat and Assam, the government agencies carried out operations to detect, identify the Bangladeshi intruders and arrest them. The illegal constructions of their dwellings were razed using bulldozers," he said. Debbarma also appealed to government agencies to enforce the law in a mission-mode, treating the launch operation to detect and deport Bangladeshi intruders and push them back to their origin.
