I went to the first ever Time Out Market in Asia Pacific – here's why you should too
I recently popped my Japanese cherry (blossom), spending a week in the Land of the Rising Sun – and I can confirm that what everyone says is, in fact, true. Japan is elite. Home to super-speedy bullet trains and ancient temples, cool streets dotted with vending machines, thrift stores, izakayas and life-altering 7-Elevens – as well as the kindest, most respectful people I've come across – Japan is not only beautiful and mind-blowing, it's safe, clean and, my favourite part: delicious. I was there to check out the brand-new Time Out Market Osaka – the first Time Out Market to open in Asia Pacific – which started welcoming locals and holiday-goers from March 21, 2025. It joins already established and beloved Markets across the globe, including Lisbon, New York, Barcelona and Cape Town. If you've never been to a Time Out Market, it's basically a massive food lover's paradise – a food and cultural hub that brings together the best of the city under one roof. Here's everything you need to know about Time Out Market Osaka – and why I reckon you need to add it to your hit list... What is Time Out Market Osaka? Time Out Market Osaka is a food haven featuring the best of Osaka under one roof. Think of it as the best food market you've ever been to, featuring dishes from first-class local chefs, the city's top restaurants, bars and cultural experiences, based on Time Out's editorial curation. There are 17 vendors to choose from, showcasing a variety of cuisines including Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and, of course, Japanese. And if you're craving a really good burger, you can get that here, too. Plus, there are two bars (hello, sake and cocktails) and three dessert stalls. Spanning more than 3,000 square metres and seating up to 800 guests, Time Out Market is huge. There aren't many venues in Osaka big enough to cater for large groups with no reservation, so it's perfect for team lunches, birthday dinners and lunch and dinner when you're on holidays with friends. Time Out Market Osaka is in the heart of Osaka, within the architecturally striking Grand Green Osaka South Building. It's a six-minute walk from Osaka Station, making it an easy, convenient and central destination to catch up with friends and family – or check it out solo (and eat as much as you can) like I did. Where to eat and drink at Time Out Market Osaka? I'm so glad you asked. As I mentioned, there are 17 food stalls to choose from, featuring cuisines from all around the world. Of course, you'll find excellent Japanese fare, spanning traditional must-try street food snacks like takoyaki (balls filled with octopus), and okonomiyaki, a savoury Japanese-style cabbage pancake. And there's brilliant ramen – the one I ordered had an incredible frothy beef bone broth with soft and chewy noodles. But there are also banging tacos by chef Willy Monroy, who owns Milpa – the first and only Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant in Japan. You'll find handmade udon noodles and Korean hot pots, Napoli-style pizza with a Japanese twist, and a rocking Wagyu cheeseburger for when you're craving a taste of home. Feel like something sweet? My pick is the bowling-ball-sized shaved matcha ice, which had whimsy in spades. 'There's something for everyone' is a cliché, but it absolutely stands here. What are the opening hours of Time Out Market Osaka? Time Out Market Osaka is open seven days a week, from 11am through to 11pm, though last orders are taken at 10.30pm. Why should I visit Time Out Market Osaka? There are so many things I loved about Time Out Market Osaka. Walking in, I was truly blown away by how sleek and chic the space looked – with its warm lighting, natural wooden furniture and polished black splashback. So if you're after a cool hangout, this is it. I loved the communal tables and how it's great for big groups but also solo diners. And because all the food stalls have been curated by the Time Out team – AKA people who know what's up when it comes to food and drink – you can count on the dishes to deliver on quality and flavour. Osaka is an incredible food destination with so many top restaurants, and the Market brings the best of the city together under one roof. If you're after a taste of home, you'll find that here, too. Plus, there are DJs spinning tunes on the weekends with lots of fun things in the pipeline. Time Out Market is card-only and does not accept cash. The world's best bars are popping up across NYC this week—here's where you can find them
Bar Convent Brooklyn (BCB) is coming back to New York this week. Held on Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at Industry City, the seventh annual trade show invites thousands of bar and beverage professionals across the world for exhibitions, private tastings and programming that centers spirits and storytelling. And with such international talent flying in New York, naturally, the bar community is celebrating in style. To coincide with the festivities, some of New York's best bars have invited top talent from London, Paris, Tokyo and then some behind their respective bars all week long. From block parties to intimate nights with international bars, here are a few takeovers to check out this week. Monday, June 9 Sip & Guzzle is inviting six of the most acclaimed cocktail bars in the country for a one-night-only bar experience. Starting at 4pm, the bi-level bar will host Washington D.C's Service Bar (number 23 North America's 50 Best Bars) and Allegory (number 45) for the first two hours, followed by Chicago's Best Intentions (number 25) and Kumiko (number 10) and San Francisco's Trick Dog (number 71) and True Laurel (number 17). The event is free, no reservations are needed. Time Out Market New York: Italicus Terrace Takeover Starting on June 9, Italicus is taking over the rooftop at Time Out Market New York for its Italicus Terrace Takeover. For one week, the Italian liqueur is painting the rooftop blue, bringing in its branded merch and shaking up classic cocktails made for sipping in the sun. Expect refreshing frozen cocktails, such as the frosé, passion fruit margaritas and even a chilled espresso martini made with Italicus bergamot liqueur and coffee liqueur, vodka and cold brew. Oh, and did we mention the boozy snow cones? The pop-up goes from now until June 15, no reservations are needed. Romeo's: Bacardi Block Party Romeo's is kicking off BCB with a block party. Sponsored by Bacardi, the party will take over St. Marks with water guns and kiddie pools guaranteed to cool you off. As for whetting your whistle, the LES bar will welcome San Diego's Swan Bar at 6pm, while Arizona's Killer Whale Sex Club will tend bar at 8pm. Several of Mexico's most celebrated bars are coming to Fidi. Sponsored by Casa Dragones, the event will host top talent including San Miguel's Bekeb (number 49 on North America's 50 Best Bars), Mexico City's Rayo, Playa del Carmen's Zapote (number 74) and Oaxaca's Selva (number 29). The rest of the evening brings out the best of London, as Seed Library will take to the bar from 8-10pm and Side Hustle will close out the evening from 10pm to midnight. The event is first-come, first-serve. Dante x American Bar from The Savoy Dante is celebrating its 110th anniversary with its Legends Series, in collaboration with Mastercard. For this rendition, the West Village bar will invite American Bar from The Savoy, the longest surviving cocktail bar in London. The event will explore The Savoy's rich legacy throughout the evening, paired with specialty cocktails, British-inspired cuisine and live jazz music. Reserved for Mastercard cardholders, the ticketed experience takes place on June 10, 11 and 12 and cost $150 per person. Learn more here. Wednesday, June 11 The Cabinet Mezcal Bar: Teramana Takeover Teremana Tequila and Cocktail Kingdom are bringing the soul of Mexico to NYC. Five top Mexican bartenders will take over The Cabinet Mezcal Bar, shaking up their own signature cocktail with Teramana, inspired by their bar's menu and their cultural roots. Top talent includes Daniel Ortega from Mexico City's Bijou Drinkery Room (number 34 on North America's 50 Best Bars); Frida Lucia from Tijuana's Aruba Day Drinking (number 22); the founder of the Shakers Room & Awards, Josh Monaghan; and Niel Flores from New York's very own Superbueno (number 2) and Employees Only (number 18). Alongside cocktails, guests can groove to a DJ set of cumbia and Mexican soul music and chow down on tamales. The event runs from 6 to 10pm. No reservations are needed, walk-ins are welcome. The Dead Rabbit: Slow Drinks For the past few months, author of 'Slow Drinks' and ethnobotanist Danny Childs and Chris Stanley of The Dead Rabbit (number 33 on North America's 50 Best Bars) have spent time foraging across the region for wild herbs, fruits, roots and botanicals that speak to the Mid-Atlantic landscape. On Wednesday, June 11, the pair will return to the Financial District bar, sharing the spoils of their hunt with a cocktail menu that incorporates each ingredient via fermented numbers and tinctures. The event runs from 6 to 10pm. Tickets are free, but you must reserve a spot.

Chicago sandwich king debuts new Italian beef collab at Time Out Market
Acclaimed Hulu series The Bear continues to put spotlight on Chicago and its iconic Italian beef sandwich, catapulting our culinary scene to new heights and creating lots of copycats. But Chicagoans know there's nothing better than the real deal — which is why we're thankful for Windy City native Jeff Mauro, and his latest creation for Stefani's Bottega Italiana at Time Out Market Chicago. The new Mauro Beef Sandwich layers slow-roasted, thin-sliced prime beef with hot peppers and tangy giardiniera relish, served with gravy. Find it at Stefani's, which opened at Time Out Market in the West Loop back in February. The Italian icon typically slings Roman-style pizzas, pastas, and schiacciata sandwiches, but we have a feeling this big, beefy number might just outdo its predecessors. Born and raised in Oak Park, chef Jeff Mauro is considered the Sandwich King on Food Network's The Kitchen, and for good reason. For years, Mauro has been on a mission to make the best version of the beloved Chicago-style Italian beef. Only now has he finally achieved his goal with what he calls 'the best Italian beef for purchase,' featuring Turano bread, gravy, and an original recipe for giardiniera. (Pro tip from chef: Don't say the 'a' at the end of giardiniera when you order.) ' It's the greatest beef that you will ever taste,' Mauro told WBBM. 'And I guarantee that. It's USDA choice or prime whole muscle chuck roll. It's not filled with anything, it's like rubbed and roasted old school, sliced paper thin.' The Food Network star's collaboration with Stefani Restaurant Group includes a plan to ship this truly famous beef across the country, giving restaurants along the East Coast a taste of Chicago. Apparently, Mauro's father grew up with Phil Stefani, making this partnership a 'super special' personal and professional experience. And if you're looking for a high-quality beef sandwich outside the immediate area, Mauro recommends looking for high-turnover locales to guarantee fresh ingredients. 'The secret key is you got to wrap that sandwich,' he said. 'Throw it in a greasy paper bag.'
