Two London restaurants have been named in the 50 best in the world

Every year, the prestigious World's 50 Best holds a ceremony to crown the 50 very best restaurants on the planet. Earlier this month the extended list (from 51 to 100) was revealed, and two London restos featured. Now the top 50 has been unveiled at an awards ceremony in Turin. Now in its 23rd year, the 2025 list comprises eateries from 32 cities and 22 countries, with 10 new entries and four re-entries. In the ranking, two London restaurants were crowned as one of the world's 50 best in 2025. High-end Mexican restaurant Kol came in 49th place. The Michelin-starred spot in Marylebone is known for its impeccable presentation, and for making Mexican dishes with British ingredients. Helmed by ex-Noma and Noma Mexico chef Santiago Lastra, some of Kol's best-renowned dishes include a langoustine taco, and a whole grilled octopus with bone marrow. The other London restaurant to make the list was Ikoyi, coming in 15th place. According to the World's 50 Best, co-founders Jeremy Chan and Iré Hassan-Odukale have 'created a culinary style that defies categorisation'. The swish joint on the Strand blends West African and Asian spices with British vegetables, meat and fish to create a unique blind tasting menu. Stand out dishes include a refined take on jollof rice and the plantain dish, which has taken on different iterations over the years. When Time Out visited Ikoyi when it opened in 2017, we called it 'a thrilling anomaly even in London's diverse food scene'. Check out the full list on the World's 50 Best website here.

The Piccadilly line's new trains have been delayed

The Piccadilly line's new trains have been a long time coming. Designs for the navy blue tube line's swanky new walk-through, air-conditioned carriages were revealed back in 2021, and since then we at Time Out have been following them closely – from testing phases in Austria to their construction in Yorkshire. 'Late 2025' was initially earmarked as when we could expect to see the Piccadilly's swish new trains come into service. Today (June 20), however, TfL has issued an update: while the trains will begin testing this summer, they won't begin operating until 'the second half of 2026'. TfL says that the process of introducing the carriages to the network has been more complex than expected, partly due to the age of parts of the Piccadilly's infrastructure. Some bits of the line are over 100 years old, and this year it's regularly been closed so that TfL can adapt tunnels and platforms to accommodate the new trains. On top of that, testing how the new trains interact with existing infrastructure and systems has had to be rescheduled. So, it'll still be another year or so before Londoners get to ride sleek new trains on one of the city's busiest tube lines – but the Piccadilly's carriages look like they'll be worth the wait. With walk-through, air-conditioned carriages, the trains will have 10 percent more capacity and boast double doorways, real-time digital displays and on-board CCTV. They'll also be lighter, more energy efficient and a smoother ride for passengers. TfL's chief capital officer Stuart Harvey said: 'This is an ambitious project with new 21st century trains providing engineering challenges in both building and introduction into service on a 20th century railway and it is critical that we ensure that safety comes first and that the trains are in top condition when they begin to service London. 'It will obviously be disappointing for customers that they will have to wait a bit longer for the new trains, and I regret that. But I would like to assure Londoners and visitors to our city that we are working extremely closely with Siemens to ensure that the new trains can be introduced as soon as possible in the second half of next year.'

Get ready for 'Minecraft': one of 2025's biggest movies is now streaming

Parents, get the tarps, because it's about to start raining popcorn all over your living room floor. A Minecraft Movie, the big-screen adaptation of the crazy-popular block-stacking video game, is streaming on HBO Max starting Friday, June 20. When the film hit theaters back in April, it flummoxed many observers by becoming the first true box-office sensation of 2025. It's the highest-grossing US domestic release of the year, earning $423.8 million in the US and $953.5 million globally, good for second-place worldwide, behind China's Ne Zha 2. Not only that, the now-famous 'Chicken Jockey' scene sparked a TikTok trend, while the Jack Black-sung jingle 'Steve's Lava Chicken' became the shortest song to ever chart in the Billboard Hot 100, clocking in at 34 seconds long. So what the heck is A Minecraft Movie about? Well, it stars Jason Momoa as a former video game champion, who, along with some kids from their tiny Idaho town, travel into the colourful world of the game and find themselves at war with an army of porcine Piglins – with an assist from a guy named Steve (Black), who's been trapped in the cube-shaped world for years. Maybe that sounds headache-inducing for adults, but it's really pretty fun. TimeOut put it this way: '[A]t heart what [director Jared Hess] has crafted is a goofy and genuinely quite loveable homage to the '80s 'quest' movie. Think Willow, think Labyrinth, think The NeverEnding Story, think Legend.' In any case, it doesn't really matter what you think: A Minecraft Movie might qualify as the first true Gen Z event movie. And if you've got a kid and an HBO Max subscription, prepare to find it on your TV a lot in the near future. Stream it here starting June 20.
