Shocking moment jewel thief tries to swallow $770,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. diamonds

A habitual jewel thief was caught on police body worn camera swallowing $770,000 worth of stolen Tiffany & Co. diamonds to avoid arrest. Jaythan Gilder, 32, was pulled over about 330 miles outside of Orlando, Florida, on February 26 after troopers were warned to 'be on the lookout' following a robbery at Tiffany & Co. earlier in the day. He had allegedly posed as a representative of an NBA player seeking to purchase diamonds. When he was taken to a private room, he snatched two sets of diamond earrings worth $609,500 and $160,000 and fled the store. Extraordinary body camera footage from his arrest was obtained by The Smoking Gun and captured the moment an officer noticed Gilder. The jewel thief was handcuffed and being led to the patrol car, 'was talking with a closed mouth and was moving an object around... using his tongue.' An officer quickly lunged at him while two other cops rushed to help, ordering Gilder to open his mouth and spit out the contents as they held him face down by the throat. 'You're about to get tased,' one trooper told him as he refused to comply. Moments later, a second said: 'He swallowed something.' The officers grabbed Gilder's jaw and throat, fearing he may have swallowed narcotics. He had a white substance on his lips which he later said was a cold sore cream. A search of Gilder's rented car yielded price tags and earring cards for Tiffany & Co. products, leading officers to determine he had swallowed the diamonds. Gilder was arrested and taken to hospital, where he reportedly refused an X-ray. He was scanned at jail and 'foreign objects' were detected inside his body. He reportedly asked: 'Am I going to be charged with what's in my stomach?' Upon return to hospital, Gilder reportedly 'refused to take any laxatives and claimed to be a practicing Muslim who would only eat after sundown and before sunrise due to it being the holiday of Ramadan.' This slowed recovery efforts, but after two weeks in mid-March, the Tiffany & Co. diamonds were reportedly passed naturally. Early on March 10, officers discovered two stones while tracking Gilder's excrement. But it was later determined these 'were not the earrings from Tiffany & Co.' They were of little value, but work was being done to determine where they had come from. Hours later, Gilder passed two of the diamonds allegedly stolen from Tiffany & Co., and two days later on June 12 he passed the final diamond. Back in February 2022, Gilder was arrested for stealing diamonds from a jeweler in Colorado and allegedly swallowed them when he was confronted by police According to the publication, the diamonds underwent rigorous cleaning at Tiffany's Master Jeweler and were returned to the company. It is unclear if they have since been sold. Back in February 2022, Gilder was arrested for stealing diamonds from a jeweler in Colorado and allegedly swallowed them when he was confronted by police. They were never recovered. He remains in custody facing charges of robbery and grand theft. Gilder attempted to be released from custody to attend his mother's funeral in Texas, but bail was denied.

Gabriele Colangelo Resort 2026: Seeking Lightness, Finding Cowries

Gabriele Colangelo found in a specific species of cowrie his lucky charm for the resort 2026 collection. Recalling a snake's head, the Cypraea caputserpentis type of the seashell and its dotted pattern were reworked into the only print Colangelo introduced in his sleek lineup. While cowrie-shaped jewelry and pendants swinging from leather straps doubling as belts punctuated some looks, the black-and-white animal print splashed over sheer turtlenecks and cotton trenchcoats injected a refreshing, edgy spin into his clean fashions in solid colors. More from WWD Lindsey Wixson Stars in Taller Marmo's 'Odyssey' Campaign Spring Studios Expands Publication, Platform Celebrating Fresh Talent With New, Itinerant Exhibit Mikey Madison Marked the Opening of Tiffany & Co.'s Largest Store in Europe Overall, Colangelo's quest this season was to offer a more relaxed take on his sharply tailored world. Hence he looked into more lightweight fabrications and turned sartorial tropes into hybrids. For example, a blazer jacket morphed into a shirt construction in its sleeves and paired wool on the front with a viscose panel on the back for a looser fit, while a crisp shirt took a cape-like silhouette via strategic openings under its batwing sleeves. The utility inflections that are recurrent in Colangelo's work also popped up in snap buttons dotting outerwear and functional tweaks, such as detachable parts conceived to hand customization power to his women and make his pieces even more versatile. Elsewhere, the designer continued to experiment with fabrics in laced inserts mixing cotton, nylon and viscose threads to create a subtle chromatic interplay, as well as in a jacquard vest weaving cotton and raffia threads in the upper part and ending in a swishing raffia fringing that is sure to grab attention. Not everything clicked perfectly. Colangelo's most daring introduction was an asymmetric skirt — half long, half short or half pleated, half not — to be layered over pants, but that felt a tad too gimmicky. A spaghetti-strap dress incorporating such a partition into its minimal shape was a more convincing way to deliver the concept. Sofia Richie Grainge's Holiday Wardrobe Centers Some Key Summer Accessories

As the long-hailed queen of quiet luxury, Sofia Richie Grainge knows her way around a key accessory to elevate any minimal look. Last week, we saw Richie Grainge bring her considered style sensibilities to Monaco for a friend's wedding, modeling the perfect black tie wedding attire. She opted for an azure silk georgette Schiaparelli dress in a brilliant blue, fastened with a gold clasp at the neck and accessorized to boot: Gold embellished black sandals, opulent chunky earrings, a gold Tiffany & Co. bone cuff by Elsa Peretti, and to finish, a petite Hermès Kelly Cut bag. And as it turns out, Richie Grainge and her husband Elliot Grainge have extended their stay in the South of France, spending quality time with their family at Eden Roc Hotel, a luxury hotel in Cap d'Antibes. Photo: Backgrid As you can expect, Sofia Richie Grainge kept it casual but refined: She wore a red swimsuit with a scoop neck and white piping, with comfy pull-on navy trousers. For accessories, she wore The Row's red and black sandals—the summer shoe of the moment for every it-girl in the know—as well as black oval sunglasses, Tiffany gold bracelets, and a chunky watch. The key piece, though, was her black and white geometric bandana—an easy adornment that acts as a chic sun protectant. It's also so very holiday a la Francais, recalling the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, or Jane Birkin's summering attire.

Tiffany & Co's iconic Bird on a Rock graces the wrist in a stunning new watch

If money were no object, many jewellery connoisseurs will tell you that their dream piece to add to their collection is one of Tiffany & Co's iconic Bird on a Rock brooches. Conceived by Jean Schlumberger in 1965, the brooch features a diamond-set bird perched on a large coloured gemstone. It's a delightfully quirky design, blending high jewellery with a touch of whimsy. Schlumberger is celebrated is one of the greatest jewellery designers of all time and spent more than three decades as a designer for Tiffany & Co, from 1956 to 1987. The story goes that Schlumberger was inspired by a yellow cockatoo that he encountered on his travels abroad to Asia and the Caribbean, including at his beloved home in Guadeloupe. The Bird on a Rock has now become an emblematic motif for Tiffany & Co. It is also a red-carpet staple, adorning countless celebrities and solidifying its place as a symbol of timeless elegance. Celebrities who have been spotted wearing a Bird on a Rock brooch include Michael B Jordan, Win Metawin, Lady Gaga, Jeremy Allen White and more. A miniature version of the Bird on a Rock now adorns a new watch by Tiffany & Co – and it's just as mesmerising. The Bird on a Rock Legacy watch features a gemstone held in place by a double-ended prong subtly textured to resemble the claws of a bird. The white mother-of-pearl dial is engraved with a delicate floral design inspired by the many floral patterns found in Schlumberger's Caribbean home. On the caseback, artisans have carved a precise aperture, inset with a magnifying lens, to reveal the hidden beauty of the gemstone's reverse. The flange encircling the dial is adorned with diamonds, enhancing the luster of the mother-of-pearl. The watch comes in three variations with three different gemstones – with an oval morganite of 1.45 carats, a cushion-cut tanzanite of 2.72 carats or an emerald-cut aquamarine of 2.1 carats. Each version showcases Tiffany & Co's jewellery and gem-setting mastery. For one, the 18k gold bird is hand-sculpted by a jeweller, set with 119 diamonds along with a pink sapphire for the eye. A signature of all Bird on a Rock watches, the 36mm case features snow-set diamonds. Snow-setting is a technique where round brilliant diamonds of different sizes are set to create a glittering expanse of light and reflection, with minimal visible metal. In all, the Bird on a Rock Legacy watch is set with a total of 587 diamonds of 3.6 total carats. The 309 diamonds on the case are complemented by 116 diamonds on the bezel, dial and flange. A sprinkling of diamonds highlights the engraved sunburst pattern on the caseback and the signature T buckle fastening the alligator strap is set with 43 round brilliant diamonds. The watch is powered by a high-precision quartz movement.

Dua Lipa's Engagement Ring Has the Most Romantic Backstory—and a Valuation to Match

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. After months of wondering, "Is she, isn't she?," Dua Lipa has finally confirmed she's engaged. That's right, the diamond band she's teased on Instagram since December is, in fact, an engagement ring from her fiancé, Callum Turner. 'Yeah, we're engaged,' she told British Vogue in her cover interview, which dropped on June 12. "It's very exciting. This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever—it's a really special feeling." According to Lipa, Turner custom-made the diamond ring for her, with guidance from her close friends and sister, Rina. "It's so me. It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well," the newly-engaged star shared. She's a longtime brand ambassador for Tiffany & Co., but at press time, it's unclear which designer Turner worked with. There's also debate over its exact weight and size. Laura Suttie, Senior Gemologist and Ring Expert at Queensmith identifies the ring as a "2-carat round diamond paired with an approximately 5mm 18k yellow gold band." Meanwhile, Laura Taylor, engagement ring specialist at Lorel Diamonds, appraised it at somewhere between 3- and 4-carats. Regardless of the exact stats, the unconventional style felt so on-brand for her. If you keep tabs on Lipa's various IG dumps, you know her (no-longer-rumored) engagement ring perfectly aligns with the rest of her jewelry. She's a devoted gold girl, after all. Whether she's on-stage or on vacation, Lipa hardly goes anywhere without oversized bracelets, a signature necklace stack, and mismatched rings, usually from Tiffany & Co. With that said, Suttie believes her newest addition could inspire a wave of chunky engagement rings. "Thicker bands are a bit of a flex—they're often chosen to support larger diamonds or gemstones while maintaining the ring's structural integrity," Suttie said in a statement. "If lab-grown, it could be valued at approximately $6,000, while a natural diamond would bring the value closer to $47,000." Lipa's verification via Vogue comes seven months after she first sported the rock on that finger. In true Lipa form, the custom design made its IG debut in a Christmas Eve photo dump. Alongside Moon Boots, a leather bomber jacket, and reindeer antlers, eagle-eye fans spotted the bold band. To be fair, at 2-carats, it would be harder not to pinpoint it. Since then, the ring has been her most consistent co-star on IG. On May 5, it also joined her at the 2025 Met Gala. The bride-to-be went full gothic glam in a custom black Chanel gown. As she ascended the iconic staircase, all eyes went to her engagement ring, which she layered overtop bedazzled mesh opera gloves. Then, on May 27, she went full bridal mode in a white wedding-ready dress from Jacquemus, with her ring front-and-center. All this to say? She's embracing this new era to the fullest. As for the actual nuptials, it seems Lipa and Turner have taken a page out of Zendaya and Tom Holland's book of pre-wedding press. "I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period,' she told British Vogue. 'I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'' Now that her secret's out, it's only a matter of time before she wears white again. Who knows? Maybe she'll team up with Chanel for her wedding wardrobe à la Sofia Richie Grainge. It wouldn't be out of the question for the brand ambassador.
