NBA Mock Draft Suggests Timberwolves Pick Thomas Sorber to Replace Rudy Gobert

NBA Mock Draft Suggests Timberwolves Pick Thomas Sorber to Replace Rudy Gobert originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves front office is making big decisions this offseason, which could drastically hurt or improve their chances of contending for future championships. After back-to-back exits from the Western Conference Finals, it's clear something has to change. Advertisement The team's already one of the select few teams that could make a trade with the Phoenix Suns for Kevin Durant, with the Miami Heat another mentioned. Adding KD would seriously boost Minnesota's starting lineup and scoring, but it's going to mean parting ways with other roster members. Speculation has suggested that either Julius Randle or Rudy Gobert will need to be included in a deal for Durant. Losing either of these bigs would seriously alter the team's frontcourt. Towns, who they acquired in a trade with New York last season, gives a talented inside and outside player capable of scoring in the paint or from downtown. Advertisement According to ESPN, NBA insider Dave McMenamin speculated that a potential trade for the Wolves to get Durant from the Suns might include Gobert, not Randle. With the 2025 NBA Draft approaching, the front office will need to determine the best player to take with the No. 17 pick. Various mock drafts have given different answers for the college star, but focus on selecting a big man to join the frontcourt. One of those answers is Georgetown Hoyas forward Thomas Sorber. The 19-year-old is 6-foot-9, and while that's not quite Gobert's height, The Athletic's Zach Harper suggests Sorber could be an ideal replacement for him. Sorber averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, two blocks, and 1.5 steals per game in his one season with the Hoyas. Advertisement According to Sorber 'plays bigger than his frame' with an impressive wingspan. The outlet compared him to previous NBA big men Roy Hibbert and Vin Baker, both of whom were multi-time All-Stars. Sorber isn't among the first 13 players ESPN reported were invited to sit in the green room for the upcoming draft. However, BYU's Egor Denim and Georgia's Asa Newell, two other big men that mock drafts have speculated Minnesota could pick, both got invites. The 2025 NBA Draft begins on Wednesday, June 25 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Exploring Thomas Sorber as a potential Boston Celtics draft prospect

Exploring Thomas Sorber as a potential Boston Celtics draft prospect One thing that has been missing from the Boston Celtics' bench rotation in recent years is athleticism. Brad Stevens has constructed a roster full of versatile talents, all capable of playing on both sides of the ball. However, outside of Jaylen Brown, no one on the roster has that "jump out of the gym" kind of bounce. Stevens could look to rectify that shortcoming in the upcoming NBA draft. The Celtics have the 28th and 32nd picks and will undoubtedly be hoping to unearth a hidden gem. In a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance explored the possibility of adding Thomas Sorber to the roster. Sorber is a one-and-done prospect out of Georgetown. Sorber, 19, is an athletic forward who does most of his offensive damage as a slasher. He boasts a mind-blowing 7-foot-6 wingspan and plays with force and tenacity. He could add a level of rim-pressure that hasn't been present in the second unit for multiple years. However, his paltry 16.2% success rate from 3-point range could be enough to deter Stevens and the front office. You can watch the full podcast episode by clicking on the embedded video above. Pacers mock draft roundup: What will Indiana Pacers do with 2025 NBA draft picks?

The Indiana Pacers have secured a spot in the NBA playoffs with a few games remaining in the 2024-25 regular season. With a week left, the Pacers are in the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference. While the playoffs need to happen first, who could be headed to Indiana in the draft this year? Advertisement Here are some options: Who will the Pacers pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA draft? Bryan Kalbrosky, For The Win 23) Danny Wolf, Michigan, center: Michigan's Danny Wolf is a do-it-all big man who has averaged 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game this season. Wolf had the most assists (132) of any college player who is 6-foot-10 or taller, per CBB Analytics. The big man is an incredibly gifted and skilled playmaker considering his height. Jonathan Wasserman, Bleacher Report 22) Thomas Sorber, Georgetown, center: A foot injury on a big guy will draw extra attention during predraft and medical reviews. Teams will be hopeful to watch Thomas Sorber work out, since he hasn't played since February 15 and was often kept in check against ranked or NCAA tournament teams. Advertisement His finishing tools, post skill and passing were noticeably advanced throughout the season. He was disruptive defensively (2.0 blocks, 1.5 steals) and despite poor jump-shooting percentages, the confidence/comfort he showed to keep taking mid-range shots and threes was still encouraging. His creativity is the draw, but he also hit 59 threes this year and shot 42.0 percent on pull-ups. Advertisement Lee tested the draft process last year but couldn't get the call-up from G League Elite Camp to the NBA combine. Earning a direct invite to the combine this year would give him a better chance to validate the 16.9 points, 6.1 boards and 5.5 assists he put up in the Ivy League. But looking ahead, Myles Turner will be a free agent this summer, which means finding another big man could be a priority. Newell has springs in his legs, regularly slamming lobs and swatting shots. Tyrese Haliburton would find him more than anyone ever has. Even though his discipline reflects his youth, his energetic style suggests he'll someday become a highly versatile defender that could help fortify this Pacers defense. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Adam Finkelstein, CBS Sports 22) Will Riley, Illinois, small forward: Riley is even less ready for the NBA than (Carter) Bryant is, especially from a physical standpoint, and would be bound to spend significant time in the G League. Nevertheless, he went to Illinois with a clear one-and-done plan and showed some real growth down the stretch of the season. At 6-foot-8, there are flashes of shot-making and playmaking alike. Overall, he's a long-term stock with a high ceiling. Illinois Fighting Illini forward Will Riley (7) rushes past Iowa Hawkeyes forward Payton Sandfort (20) on Thursday, March 13, 2025, during the second round of the men's Big Ten tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes, 106-94. Sam Vecenie, The Athletic 19) Joan Beringer, Cedevita, center: Beringer is the big riser of the last three months on the international scene. He's a wildly athletic center who is new to the game and has surprisingly carved out a serious role for Eurocup team Cedevita. He's as loose athletically as you'll find a center, with real flexibility and explosiveness at 6-10. He also has extremely long arms and showcases an immense amount of defensive upside that could become versatile in the right situation. More than anything, though, what scouts rave about are his hands. He catches everything in and outside of his area, showing serious potential to be a rim-runner as a low-usage screen-and-roll center. But he isn't all that massive for the role, which those rim-runner centers typically are. Additionally, he's got some work to do with the intricacies of the game. I tend to get feedback for him more in the 20s and early 30s, but Indiana is a perfect fit for him as a transition-based team that has a desperate need at backup center (and potentially a long-term need at starting center if Myles Turner departs in free agency). 49) Rocco Zikarsky, Brisbane Bullets, center This article originally appeared on Indianapolis Star: Indiana Pacers mock drafts, predictions for 2025 NBA draft picks

Georgetown forward Thomas Sorber to declare for 2025 NBA draft

Georgetown forward Thomas Sorber to declare for 2025 NBA draft Georgetown freshman forward Thomas Sorber told ESPN on Thursday that he will declare for the 2025 NBA draft while maintaining his remaining college eligibility. Sorber was named to the All-Big East third team after averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals on 53.2% shooting from the field. He is the first Hoya since Markel Starks (2012-13) to earn all-conference third-team recognition. The 19-year-old, who was also a unanimous selection to the Big East All-Freshman team, was limited to 24 games after undergoing season-ending foot surgery last month. He was one of the front-runners to win the Big East Freshman of the Year award before the injury. Sorber wasn't on the NBA radar to begin the season, but eventually established himself as a potential first-round pick after a strong freshman campaign. He was among the freshmen leaders in several advanced metrics, including defensive win shares and wins above replacement. The 6-foot-10 standout was dominant at times in the paint as either a roller or back-to-the-basket scorer. He showed some flashes of being able to space the floor, though he will need to continue to improve in that area at the next level. After announcing his draft intentions on Thursday, it isn't known if Sorber will be cleared to participate in draft workouts or the combine May 11-18 in Chicago, Illinois. Underclassmen have until May 28 to withdraw from the draft and return to school. The 2025 NBA draft will occur June 25-26 in New York City.
