Emmy-nominated actor from ‘Scarface,' ‘Ghostbusters II' dies at 87

Harris Yulin, the Emmy-nominated actor best known for his menacing roles in iconic films such as 'Scarface' and 'Ghostbusters II," has died. He was 87. Yulin died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, June 10 in New York City, Deadline reported. The actor's death was announced by his family and manager Sue Leibman. Yulin was born on Nov. 5, 1937 in Los Angeles, California, his IMDb biography states. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, Yulin appeared in more than 100 film and television productions including 'Night Moves,' 'St. Ives,' 'Clear and Present Danger,' 'Looking for Richard,' 'Bean,' 'The Hurricane' and 'Training Day.' Yulin's most notable performances were as Chief Detective Mel Bernstein in 1983's 'Scarface' and as Judge Stephen Wexler in 1989's 'Ghostbusters II.' The actor received an Emmy Award nomination in 1996 for his work on 'Fraiser,' in which he starred as Jerome Belasco in the episode titled, 'A Word to the Wiseguy." He also had notable roles on series including 'Cagney & Lacey,' 'The X-Files,' 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and 'Ozark,' where he appeared in 12 episodes. A lifelong stage actor, Yulin made his New York stage debut in James Saunders' 1963 production of 'Next Time I'll Sing to You.' His Broadway debut came in the early 1980s. Yulin went on to appear in celebrated productions such as 'Hedda Gabler,' 'The Price' and 'The Diary of Anne Frank.' He also won a Lucille Lortel Award for directing 'The Trip to Bountiful' and received Drama Desk nominations, the Guardian reported. Before his death, Yulin was set to star in the upcoming MGM+ series 'American Classic,' which stars Kevin Kline and Laura Linney. Yulin was set to play Linus Bean, father to Kline's character in the show. Kline stars as Richard Bean, a Broadway actor who has a meltdown and comes home to the town of Millersburg, where his father founded a local theater. 'Harris Yulin was very simply one of the greatest artists I have ever encountered,' director Michael Hoffman said of the late actor, according to Deadline. 'His marriage of immense technique with an always fresh sense of discovery, gave his work an immediacy and vitality and purity I've experienced nowhere else. And what he was as an actor, he was as a man, the grace, the humility, the generosity,' Hoffman said. 'All of us at 'American Classic' have been blessed by our experience with him. He will always remain the beating heart of our show.' Yulin is survived by his wife, Kristen Lowman, son-in-law Ted Mineo, nephew Martin Crane, and godchildren Marco and Lara Greenberg, Deadline reported. Welcome to the golden age of conspiracy theories

There's never been a better time to be a conspiracy theorist: government funded plans to dim the sun; a pop star embarking on a questionable space flight; supermarkets stripped bare after Spain and Portugal were plunged into a catastrophic blackout; Robot policemen on the streets of China; the US admitting to the existence of UFOs. Like a lot of people my age, my gateway drug to the murky world of cover-ups was The X Files. For an hour each week, my young mind was exposed to alien abductions, secret societies, cannibal cults and paranormal phenomena. And my interest in the other worldly – and the people who wholeheartedly believe that humanity is being misled en masse – has never abated. Since the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001, I have been an avid reader of conspiracy theories about all sorts of topics, from the ludicrous to the mundane.

What should a person do if they find Loch Ness Monster?

The Nessie Contingency Plan, drawn up by NatureScot, is a real guide for what to do if the monster ever appears For nearly a century, people have been scouring the dark waters of Loch Ness near Inverness in search of the legendary monster. Strange humps have been spotted gliding across the surface, and eerie sounds have echoed from the depths below, yet Nessie herself has never been definitively found. But what if, against all odds, the Loch Ness Monster actually turned up? ‌ As it turns out, authorities in Scotland are already prepared. A set of official guidelines, known as the Nessie Contingency Plan, was quietly drafted years ago by the government's nature agency, NatureScot. ‌ It sounds like something straight out of The X Files, but the document is real, and it outlines exactly what would happen if Nessie were to surface. A NatureScot spokesperson told the BBC: 'The Nessie Contingency Plan was produced back in 2001, at a time when there was a lot of Nessie-hunting activity on the loch. 'We were regularly being asked by the media and others what we would do if or when she, or he, was found. 'The code of practice, which was partly serious and partly for a bit of fun, was drawn up to offer protection not just to the elusive monster, but to any new species found in the loch.' Under the plan, any new creature discovered in the loch would be subject to scientific investigation, including a DNA sample, before being safely released back into the water. ‌ Crucially, the creature would also receive full legal protection, just like native Scottish species such as golden eagles and wildcats. That means if Nessie were real, it would be illegal to harm, kill or even capture her. ‌ Concerns for Nessie's safety aren't new. Back in 1938, a senior police officer wrote to the Scottish Office warning about a group of men intent on hunting the creature 'dead or alive'. The party, he said, was allegedly having a special harpoon gun made and planned to descend on the loch with 20 'experienced men'. The legend of the Loch Ness Monster stretches all the way back to the Middle Ages. According to ancient lore, it was Irish monk St Columba who first encountered a mysterious beast in the River Ness, which flows out from the loch. ‌ But the modern version of the myth only really began in the spring of 1933, when Aldie Mackay, manageress of a local hotel, reported seeing a whale-like creature thrashing through the water. The Inverness Courier picked up the story and its editor, Evan Barron, cemented Nessie's name in pop culture by describing the creature as a 'monster'. Since then, sightings have trickled in with remarkable consistency. The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register has logged 1,161 reports since launching in 1996. There were three sightings last year, and already one for 2025, a pair of humps said to be gliding across the loch. Over the decades, eyewitnesses have described everything from a creature with crocodile-like skin to fast-moving shapes that defy explanation. ‌ Many have tried to solve the riddle. The Loch Ness Investigation Bureau conducted multiple searches throughout the 1960s and 70s. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Then in the late 1980s, Operation Deepscan brought more than 20 boats equipped with sonar technology to sweep the loch in a bid to detect large underwater animals. ‌ And then there's Steve Feltham, arguably the most committed monster hunter of them all. He gave up his job, sold his house in Dorset and moved to the shores of Loch Ness in 1991 to dedicate his life to cracking the mystery. Some researchers believe Nessie might not be a monster at all. In 2019, a team of scientists from New Zealand analysed environmental DNA from water samples across the loch. Their conclusion? There was no evidence of giant reptiles or prehistoric creatures like plesiosaurs. Instead, they suggested the sightings could be explained by something much less mythical: giant eels.

and his longtime girlfriend Monique Pendleberry have secretly married. In exclusively pictures obtained by the newlyweds spotted wearing their wedding rings for the first time during a laid-back stroll in Malibu on Tuesday. The X-Files actor, 64, and Pendelberry, 31, have kept their romance largely out of the public eye since first being linked in 2017, making only a handful of public appearances together over the years. Their last major sighting was in New York City in September, and they previously walked the red carpet together at the 2023 premiere of Duchovny's Netflix film You People and at the Tribeca Film Festival. But this latest outing - with both Duchovny and Pendleberry flashing bands on their ring fingers - revealed they have finally taken their romance to the next level and a spokesperson has confirmed to that they have indeed wed. Duchovny sported a simple silver band on his left hand, while Pendleberry paired a gold band with a sparkling diamond ring. The New York City native was previously married to actress Téa Leoni, 59. The pair tied the knot in 1997 and quickly became one of Hollywood's most prominent power couples, often praised for keeping their private life relatively low-key despite their fame. However, their relationship hit a rough patch in 2008 when Duchovny checked himself into a rehabilitation center for treatment of sex addiction. The separation made headlines, but the two reunited in 2011, sparking hope for a lasting reconciliation. Despite their efforts, the couple quietly parted ways again and ultimately finalized their divorce in 2014 after 17 years of marriage. They share two children: daughter Madelaine West Duchovny, 24, who has begun forging her own path as an actress, and son Kyd Miller Duchovny, 21, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight. Meanwhile, David's latest move may mark a major new chapter in his life — now with a new bride by his side. The actor is parting ways with the Malibu estate he's called home for nearly two decades, listing it for a staggering $12.5 million. Though best known for his on-screen roles in The X-Files and beyond, Duchovny has stayed busy over the years with a string of creative ventures — from launching a podcast and publishing several books, including his 2021 novel Truly Like Lightning. But one of his proudest projects wasn't in entertainment — it was the restoration of an old train caboose nestled on his Malibu property. 'It's one of the things I'm most proud of that I've ever developed in my life,' Duchovny told WSJ of the caboose, which includes a living and sleeping area, dining nook, kitchen, bathroom, and even a roof deck. 'It's just an amazing little spot to be in.' Duchovny is now putting the caboose — along with his three-bedroom main house — on the market after snapping up the property for $4.75 million in 2016. The one-acre estate is tucked in Malibu's coveted Point Dume neighborhood, just steps from the beach and surrounded by some of Hollywood's biggest names.
