Road closures on Gardiner, DVP after armed carjacking, SIU investigating: police
The Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway are partly closed on Tuesday morning after an armed carjacking in the area on Monday night, police say.
The carjacking happened around 11 p.m. at The Shops at Don Mills shopping centre near Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue E., Toronto police spokesperson Laura Brabant said in an email.
Police found the stolen vehicle southbound on the Don Valley Parkway, she said. Suspects fled the vehicle on foot.
One of the suspects was injured while fleeing the vehicle, while the other suspects got away, she said.
Brabant did not say how many suspects were involved in total. CBC Toronto has reached out to clarify.
Road closures are in effect on the southbound Don Valley Parkway from Eastern Avenue to the westbound Gardiner Expressway, and on the eastbound Gardiner Expressway at Jarvis Street, police said in a post on X.
Brabant said the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the incident.
The SIU is an independent agency that investigates the conduct of police officers in incidents that may have resulted in death, serious injury, the discharge of a firearm or allegations of sexual assault.
