This divisive 90s shoe trend is back for summer – and this is the pair to wear
Flip flops have officially been given the fashion seal of approval. From smooth leather iterations to jelly styles and classic Havaianas', the sandal style is just as likely to be seen in the city as they are at the beach this season. Minimalist luxury fashion label The Row led the charge last year with its 'beach flip flop' style, plumped for by the likes of Kylie and Kendall Jenner and Zoe Kravitz. Don't be fooled by the name, as these flip flops aren't seen anywhere near the sea. In fact, The Row's newest take for this season is aptly named the 'city flip flop' (£860, But you don't need to spend that eye-watering amount on the style; Ancient Greek Sandals were next with the Saionara jelly sandal (£125, worn by influencers including Lucy Williams and Lizzy Hadfield. The jelly material and pop of colour playfully nod to the Nineties. A more budget way to embrace the trend, the classic flip flop brand Havaianas is officially cool again, thanks to recent collaborations with Zara, Dolce & Gabbana and Gigi Hadid. Of course, the trend isn't for everyone. Some might look on with horror at exposed feet on the commute, while getting your toes out in the office is a divisive topic among colleagues. I cast my own reservations aside to road test the best flip flops to invest in this season – and one pair has shaped up to be my sandal of the season. Perfectly minimalist but sufficiently stylish thanks to the sleek red finish, Russell & Bromley's radford style is a hero investment. At £125, the flats are a more premium choice on the high street, but feel far less flimsy than many leather or faux leather takes. Here's my case for why you should invest too. How we tested I tested these Russell & Bromley flip flops alongside dozens of other pairs from the high street. Considering comfort, styling versatility, value-for-money and aesthetic, here's why I keep returning to the radford style. Trying to Dethrone the Birkin? Make Fewer Bags
Chanel is discovering that it's hard going toe-to-toe with the Hermès RMS 0.40%increase; green up pointing triangle Birkin bag. A much smaller American brand, The Row, is becoming a more convincing challenger. Two of France's most famous luxury brands grew roughly in lockstep from 2018 until a change last year. Chanel is privately owned but recently published annual results showing sales fell 4% in 2024 and operating profit dropped almost a third. Meanwhile, Hermès grew sales 15% last year and operating profit rose 9%.

12 best flip flops to nail this summer's minimalist shoe trend
Once reserved for beach holidays, the humble flip flop has had a makeover for summer 2025. From stylish leather iterations and chunky silhouettes to jelly materials and thong heels, the latest flip flops are just as wearable in the city as they are at the seaside. Riding the Y2K revival, the flip flop had a moment in the sun a few years ago when chunky silhouettes and platform soles were the fashion fixation. The latest revival nods to the Nineties, with barely-there styles, leather fabrics and summer-ready shades. Poster girls from the decade like Caroline Basset Kennedy and Jennifer Aniston styled theirs with straight leg jeans or slip dresses, while designers like Calvin Klein and Jean Paul Gaultier even sent flip flops down the runway. But we have The Row to thank for the humble flip flop's return to fashion royalty. Everyone from Kendall Jenner to Zoe Kravitz has worn the luxury fashion label's Ginza or rubber styles, styling with a summer dress or tailored trousers. Equally minimalist but far more in budget, Havaianas are having a renaissance (yes, the rubber sandals from your childhood family holidays). Trending styles can barely stay in stock after Gigi Hadid collaborated with the brand. Completing your summer capsule wardrobe, slimline flip flops are the perfect minimalist complement to an oversized shirt, wide-leg linen trousers or maxi sun dress. All that's left to do is book a pedicure. How we tested From affordable high street takes to investment pairs, I've tried and tested the best flip flops to invest in this summer and beyond. Whether it's an everyday staple, a practical beach pair or elevated style for evening attire, I wore these flip flops on holiday, in the city, to smart events and even on a dog walk. Considering cost-per-wear, aesthetic, quality, and, of course, comfort, these are the best flip flops to invest in right now. Sofia Richie Grainge's The Row Sandals Look Just Like This $55 Amazon Style
Flip-flops are having their moment again. Just ask Jennifer Aniston, Gigi Hadid, or the entire Cosmo team, who have embraced the thong sandal revival with open arms—and pedicured toes. If you had any doubt about the polarizing shoe trend left, this should settle it: Certified it girl Sofia Richie Grainge just shared back-to-back Instagrams in the style. While vacationing in the French Riviera (at the same opulent hotel as her royal wedding!) Sofia has been reaching for the exact flip-flops that, well, all of Hollywood is wearing: The Row Dune Cotton Flat Thong Sandals. Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber have all been spotted in the trending shoe. But, here's the thing: While they can afford to spend $690 on a rubber flip-flop, I cannot! And, I don't have to! There's a $55 version on Amazon that looks identical—down to Sofia's colorway. The lookalike sandal has the same red textured outsole and ribbed black thong strap as the designer style. They're so similar, in fact, that I'm quite sure I couldn't tell the difference in a side-by-side. The rubber footbed offers just the right amount of cushion, and you don't have to worry about blisters thanks to its soft ribbon-like fabric. Shoppers can confirm! "They are very comfortable to wear. The insole has a raised massaging surface that feels really good on the bottom of your feet," one reviewer says. "The straps are fabric so they do not cut into your toes or feet." Another customer adds that the flip-flops are so "cute, comfy, and affordable" that they've "had many pairs over the years." In addition to the classic red and black style Sofia opted for, Amazon also has an all-black sandal and black and sand color combo just like The Row versions Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber chose. Oh, and the beauty of a flip-flop (and these, in particular)??? They go with everything. Hailey wore the Dunes with leggings, Kendall styled 'em with jeans, and Sofia paired the shoes with several different swimwear looks. So, if you're looking to cosplay as a girl who can afford $690 flip-flops (without actually spending that), now's your chance! I'm certainly taking it! Megan Schaltegger is an NYC-based writer. Culottes Are Back! 5 Modern Ways to Wear the Nostalgic Trend
Every few seasons or so, a divisive fashion item reemerges onto the scene, causing many to wonder: 'Is this really back in style?' Flip-flops and jelly sandals, thanks to The Row, were one of the first controversial pieces to rebound—and they continue to captivate. On par with fashion's penchant for taking a look into the past, we've circled back to the capri. The knee-length, legging-adjacent style are, once more, a mainstay in celebrity wardrobes, from Hailey Bieber to Bella Hadid. This has, naturally, led us to their nostalgic counterpart. The culotte! Yes, the cropped, wide-lang pant is back and chicer than you might remember. Vogue's Favorite Culottes: Examined in a 2019 story written by Vogue's Laird Borrelli-Persson, the culotte was first worn by aristocrats and military men, cut close to the knees in its nascent form. 'Before crossing over to fashion, they were adopted by sportswomen. Early discussions around culottes were really conversations about women's mobility and role in society.' With the same elegant vibe of a skirt, but the ease of pants, the culotte is a practical yet modest interpretation of femininity. They can be worn casually, with a plain, but perfect white T-shirt, or dressed up with a dainty blouse and the season's top accessories, like colorful market totes and pendant necklaces. Ahead, find inspiration on how to bring this early aughts trend into the modern world with five culotte outfits fit for summer. Something Seersucker These low-hanging, seersucker shorts from Cos would look good with anything, but we're partial to them being teamed with playful summer extras, like The Row's woven bag, and red leather sandals. Keep it Classic Zara's high-waisted culottes need little more than Toteme's butter yellow tank top, and an oversized raffia bag from Muuñ. Subtle Color Pops Neutral girls, rejoice! Wearing color doesn't mean you have to stray too far from your preferred palette. Use Lemaire's tie-waist top and Miu Miu's multicolor woven mini bag to add a soft ray of sunshine.
