Paramount+, Gaumont & Fremantle Team Up On Thriller Series ‘The Revenge Club' Starring Martin Compston, Aimée-Ffion Edwards, Meera Syal & More
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount+ UK & Ireland has commissioned UK thriller series The Revenge Club (w/t), with Slow Horses and Peaky Blinders star Aimée-Ffion Edwards alongside Line Of Duty star Martin Compston in the lead roles of Emily and Calum. Based on the upcoming debut novel The Othello Club by J.D. Pennington, the series follows six strangers brought together by a divorce support group who quickly transform from therapy-seeking victims into architects of retribution. With little in common beyond their pain, they form an unlikely bond. What begins as a cathartic outlet quickly spirals into something far more dangerous. Rights were acquired from Rosie Gurtovoy at PFD. Production is underway in the UK. Also joining the cast are Aoife Kennan (Vera) and Rob Malone (The Witcher) as Rosa and Leon – the two police officers investigating the murders – along with Niamh Walsh (Jamestown), Wil Coban (The Boys in the Boat), Christina Bennington (Halo) and Eoin Duffy (The Dry). Alison Jackson and Jess Connell executive-produce for the UK division of Gaumont. Outside the UK & Ireland, the series is produced by Gaumont in association with Fremantle, which also handles international sales. The series has been created by Gabbie Asher (The Tattooist of Auschwitz) who also serves as an executive producer alongside J.D. Pennington, with episodes written by Matt Jones (The Split) and Adam Usden (Lupin). Tim Kirkby (Fleabag) is the lead director alongside Daniel O'Hara (Stay Close) and Margot Gavan Duffy serves as the producer. The drama was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer, UK, and Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor, for Paramount+ UK & Ireland. On the new series order, Cardwell said: 'The Revenge Club is a sharp, stylish and darkly funny thriller, brought to life by a brilliant cast and an exceptional creative team. The Scottish actor, 59, who is a Bafta winner, is set to feature in Paramount Plus's upcoming gripping thriller show, The Revenge Club. The six-part series is based on the forthcoming novel The Othello Club by JD Pennington. According to the official synopsis, "The show follows six strangers brought together by a divorce support group, each reeling from betrayal and heartbreak, who quickly transform from therapy-seeking victims into architects of exquisite retribution." It continues: "With little in common beyond their pain, they form an unlikely bond, and a pact that will change their lives forever. What begins as a cathartic outlet quickly spirals into something far more dangerous. "And as the group's acts of revenge escalate from mischievous pranks to deadly "accidents," the line between justice and murder begins to blur. Rights were acquired from Rosie Gurtovoy at PFD." Line of Duty star Martin Compston and Slow Horses' Aimée-Ffion Edwards are set to take on lead roles as Callum and Emily, reports the Express. In addition to Douglas, who will portray Steve, it's also been announced that the divorce group of characters includes Meera Syal (Mrs Sidhu Investigates) as Rita, Sharon Rooney (Barbie) as Rachel, Chaneil Kular (Sex Education) as Tej and Amit Shah (Happy Valley) as Malcolm. Set to take on the roles of the detectives delving into the murders are Aoife Kennan (Vera) and Rob Malone (The Witcher), portraying Rosa and Leon, respectively. Meanwhile, Niamh Walsh (Jamestown), Wil Coban (The Boys in the Boat), Christina Bennington (Halo), and Eoin Duffy (The Dry) are also confirmed to join the cast of the series. The series is the brainchild of Gabbie Asher, celebrated for her writing on The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Call the Midwife, Waterloo Road, and The English Game, and she will also serve as an executive producer alongside author Pennington. Scripting duties fall to Matt Jones (The Split) and Adam Usden (Lupin).
