Lawrence O'Donnell Flames Trump for Humiliating Surrender on Deportation Vow

Lawrence O'Donnell has called Trump the 'slowest and stupidest president in history' for his recent realization that farm-working migrants are essential to the U.S. economy. During his most recent flagellation of the president on The Last Word, the host tore into Trump's sudden realization that deporting all of the people who pick our crops might not be the best idea. 'It's over! The mass deportation lie that he never could have done anyway is over and Donald Trump formally, publicly, gave up today,' O'Donnell argued on Thursday's show. It comes after Trump slightly walked back on his promise to deport immigrants en masse. 'Our great Farmers and people in the Hotel and Leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long-time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace,' he wrote on Truth Social earlier on Thursday. The Department of Agriculture estimates that over 40 percent of crop workers in the U.S. are undocumented. Analysis of 2020 data by the legal advocacy group American Immigration Council suggests that over 1 million undocumented migrants are working in the hotel and hospitality industries. Trump tried to soften his reversal by bashing Joe Biden and railing against boogeymen. 'In many cases the Criminals allowed into our Country by the VERY Stupid Biden Open Borders Policy are applying for those jobs. This is not good. We must protect our Farmers, but get the CRIMINALS OUT OF THE USA. Changes are coming!' his post continued. But O'Donnell saw through it. 'According to Donald Trump today, all of those people can stay. Millions and millions and millions of people can stay... most of the people without documents,' he said. The host added that Trump explained his decision in a 'typically incoherent, mental acuity-challenged way' Trump later said in a press conference that 'our farmers have been hurt badly' and while 'they're not citizens, they've turned out to be great.' 'We can't do that to our farmers,' he added. 'Donald Trump has just learned that today, what everybody else knew for years. In defense of those people who Donald Trump was calling murderers and rapists, everything we've been saying I guess has finally sunk in with Donald Trump. The slowest and stupidest president in history,' the host raged. O'Donnell suggested that 'the stupidest man in the room finally realizes the Democrats are completely right about this and always have been.' It was a 'huge surrender' by Trump, he added. In a parting blow, he called Trump the 'stupidest, most dangerous president this country has ever had to endure.'

Lawrence O'Donnell Mocks Trump for Backtracking Promise to Deport 15 Million: ‘Slowest and Stupidest President in History'

Lawrence O'Donnell celebrated President Donald Trump walking back his campaign promise to deport 15 million illegal immigrants from the United States. 'The central lie of Donald Trump's deportation campaign promise came apart today,' O'Donnell announced. He pointed to a post Trump made on Truth Social Thursday morning, in which the president noted the concerns of farmers and hotel corporations throughout the country who want to keep their hard-working immigrant employees and wrote, 'We must protect our Farmers, but get the CRIMINALS OUT OF THE USA.' 'Donald Trump promised to deport every one of those people working on farms. Every one of them. He promised to deport all of them, and then he decided not to deport them today,' the 'Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell' host explained on Thursday night's episode. 'He's not going to deport 15 million people. He's not going to deport a million people. It's over. The mass deportation lie that he never could have done anyway is over. Donald Trump formally, publicly gave up today.' You can watch the full 'Last Word' segment yourself in the video below. In response to a clip of Trump saying that America cannot take away farmers' most hard-working employees, O'Donnell said, 'He was doing it to the farmers!' The MSNBC anchor continued, 'What everyone has been saying for years and years and years in defense of those people who Donald Trump was calling murderers and rapists, everything we've been saying, I guess, has finally sunk in with Donald Trump, the slowest and stupidest president in history.' 'Maybe they don't have what they're supposed to have in legal documentation to be here,' O'Donnell said of the immigrants Trump has been targeting since he retook office in January. 'Donald Trump doesn't care about any of that anymore. The stupidest man in the room finally realizes the Democrats are completely right about this, and always have been.' Unfortunately, O'Donnell noted that Trump's immigration surrender was overshadowed Thursday by California Senator Alex Padilla's forced removal from a press conference with Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. 'What Donald Trump said today is not going to make one person in this country feel safer tomorrow,' O'Donnell lamented. 'They won't feel safer because they've all seen what happened to a United States senator today.' 'We are all Alex Padilla tonight,' O'Donnell concluded. 'Any one of us could be the next one on the floor in handcuffs, in the ragingly thuggish, unconstitutional government now run by the stupidest, most dangerous president this country has ever had to endure.' Lawrence O'Donnell Chokes Up When Detailing Harrowing Impact Of USAID Cuts

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell fought back tears on air as he attacked 'soulless, mindless' President Donald Trump and Elon Musk for slashing funding that has led to children dying. On Monday's 'The Last Word,' O'Donnell cited a New York Times column that explores the impact of the Trump administration's demolition of the U.S. Agency for International Development, an organization that in 2023 disbursed more than $43 billion for humanitarian aid, economic development and health programs around the world. The piece, by columnist Nicholas Kristof, referenced Evan Anzoo, a 5-year-old boy from South Sudan born with HIV. He was 'a child as precious as yours or mine,' Kristof wrote. The orphan was being kept alive by medicines that cost less than 12 cents per day, Kristof reported, funded by the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. PEPFAR has been credited with saving more than 25 million lives since being launched by President George W. Bush. But PEPFAR has been a victim of Trump's deep cuts to overseas aid. By early March, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who led the purge of the six-decade-old agency, wrote on social media that 83% of USAID programs had been cut. O'Donnell noted that Rubio had told Congress that 'no children are dying on my watch' as a result of the cuts. But Kristof suggested otherwise, reporting that Evan's condition weakened and he died from an opportunistic infection after his medications were cut. 'Evan died on [Rubio's] watch,' said O'Donnell, who soon started to choke up. 'Evans of all ages are dying on Marco Rubio's watch, and no one is counting. And so we don't know as of tonight whether it's tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of Evans, but we know it will be.' O'Donnell moved on to a New York Times column headlined 'Elon Musk's Legacy is Disease, Starvation and Death,' which cites Boston University research detailing how Musk's cuts to USAID's budget have led to an estimated 300,000 deaths, most of whom are children. O'Donnell quoted a line from columnist Michelle Goldberg that argues, 'If there were justice in the world, Musk would never be able to repair his reputation, at least not without devoting the bulk of his fortune to easing the misery he's engendered.' The anchor then went on to compare Musk's butchering of the federal government with the humanitarian efforts of fellow billionaire Bill Gates, who has 'has devoted his life and his billions' to saving children in Africa. O'Donnell said this means Gates' verdict on the current richest person in the world is 'so important and powerful.' 'Bill Gates, the former richest person in the world, said, 'the picture of the world's richest man killing the world's poorest children is not a pretty one,'' continued O'Donnell. He added, 'And the picture of the richest person in the world carrying around his drug box of ecstasy, Adderall, psychedelic mushrooms and then taking life-saving drugs away from the poorest people in the world is a picture only Donald Trump could have created.' O'Donnell ended with a brutal assessment of Musk and Trump as 'soulless, mindless entities.' MSNBC Host Stunned by Trump's Unprecedented Double Humiliation

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell suggested that President Donald Trump made history by getting 'humiliated' by two people at the same time. In his opening monologue on Thursday's The Last Word, O'Donnell said it was German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's turn to 'sit beside Donald Trump and humiliate him' in the Oval Office, but that got 'overshadowed' by Elon Musk's wild social media posts attacking the president. 'Donald Trump became the first president in history to get humiliated by two people at the same time, with one of them not even being in the room,' O'Donnell said. 'The richest person in the world, who Donald Trump now claims he fired last week, was live-tweeting Donald Trump's stupidity festival in the Oval Office, saying, among other things, Donald Trump should be impeached.' Musk's salacious posting spree didn't stop there. He also suggested that Trump's tariffs will cause a recession later this year and claimed the president wouldn't have won the 2024 election without his multimillion dollar support. Then Musk dropped the 'really big bomb,' claiming the 'real reason' the government hasn't released files related to child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is because Trump features in them. As if that weren't bad enough, O'Donnell noted that Merz had to correct Trump to his face during their Thursday meeting in front of the world's media. The German chancellor pointed out that Friday marked the anniversary of the D-Day landings, when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in a pivotal moment of World War II. Trump remarked that D-Day was 'not a pleasant day' for Germany. Merz then had to educate Trump: 'In the long run, Mr. President, this was the liberation of my country from Nazi dictatorship.' O'Donnell noted that this glib reply followed French President Emmanuel Macron fact-checking Trump in the Oval Office in February about Europe's funding of Ukraine's fight against Russian invasion, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer rejecting Trump's claim that there are 'infringements on free speech' in the U.K. 'Donald Trump is by far the stupidest person any European head of state has ever had to meet,' O'Donnell said. The host later discussed the possible implications of the tensions between Trump and Musk blowing up the way it did on Thursday. 'This is not a feud. This is the world's two craziest, most dangerous rich people, each trying to find a way now to completely destroy the other,' he said. 'Elon Musk is now calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump. Donald Trump is now calling for cutting off all government contracts with Elon Musk's companies. Steve Bannon, Trump ally, is now calling for Elon Musk to be deported. All-out madness has broken out in Trump World, with Donald Trump at the center of the madness, causing all of the madness.'
