LEGO creates She Built That campaign to empower a new generation of girl builders
It's always been said that girls grow up with Barbie dolls and boys grow up with LEGO but over the years, this stereotype has changed and LEGO is looking to redefine and reclaim what it means to be a builder, and celebrate the female creativity. In a recent global research commissioned by The LEGO Group, it found that 80% of adults polled believed that society still viewed boys as naturally better builders than girls; which often led to girls and mothers undervaluing their own building skills compared to boys and their fathers. The study also uncovered a confidence gap in children, with girls rating themselves lower in building abilities than boys, and finding it hard to think of themselves as someone who is good at building things. LEGO fans can build a vending machine that dispenses Minifigures The machine vends mystery sets for you to build The LEGO Group has announced the launch of the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine set; a retro-inspired building set designed for adults - with 1,343 pieces. I insert the included LEGO coin, turn the handle, and release one of 16 capsules, each containing bricks to build a minifigure. Each figure is a surprise, featuring nostalgic themes like Castle, Paradisa, and Fabuland, as well as Classic Space explorers and even the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer who uploaded the product idea to The functional brick-built vending machine offers collectors exclusive, nostalgic minifigures. The LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine set was submitted by Belgium-based Fan Designer, Rob Vangansewinkel, as part of the LEGO Ideas programme. LEGO Ideas allows fans to submit product ideas, which are then voted for by the community before being considered to be made into a real LEGO set. Rob said: 'As a kid, I had a real vending machine at home and loved it - so the idea of creating a working LEGO brick version that dispenses minifigures just clicked. I started with a digital version of the model and posted it on LEGO Ideas. But I wasn't sure if the dispensing mechanism would really work, so I spent about two months testing and refining the design with actual LEGO bricks. I even took apart my old vending machine to understand the mechanics and make it work, and I'm so proud of the final product." Three new cars launched as LEGO sets and in Asphalt Legends Unite Fans can build the sets and drive them in the game The LEGO Group and Gameloft have launched three new 'rides' in LEGO Technic form and in the game Asphalt Legends Unite. Each LEGO Technic supercar set comes with an exclusive redeemable code to unlock the car in Asphalt. The three supercars are: the LEGO Technic Aston Martin Valkyrie, the track-ready LEGO Technic Ferrari FXX K, and the LEGO Technic Lamborghini Revuelto Super Sports Car. LEGO launches four new Fortnite sets for children and older builders The sets come with exclusive Fortnite digital bonus content The LEGO Group has unveiled the latest additions to its LEGO Fortnite physical product range. The four new sets include: LEGO Fortnite Peely & Sparkplug's Camp, LEGO Fortnite Durrr Burger Restaurant and LEGO Fortnite Klombo which will all be available to purchase from June 1 and the LEGO Fortnite Mecha Team Leader that is available for pre-order from April and available to purchase from August 1. The new sets will allow builders to recreate even more of their favourite characters and moments from LEGO Fortnite Odyssey and Fortnite. This announcement follows on from the first-ever release of LEGO Fortnite physical sets last year. The first product in this latest launch is the LEGO Fortnite Peely & Sparkplug's Camp. This 250-piece set is inspired by some of the first challenges you meet in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, with builders aged 7+ able to recreate the campfire, ruins and workbench settings, with Peely, Sparkplug minifigures, as well as Supply Llama, wolf and skeleton figures also included. Gaming fans will be able to unlock the Sparkplug Outfit in the LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite games by scanning the QR code on the cover of the building instructions. The LEGO Fortnite Durrr Burger Restaurant is a 546-piece set which allows builders to construct one of LEGO Fortnite's gameplay locations. Builders aged 10+ will be able to recreate all the action with four minifigure characters included in the set, such as Beach Bomber, Beef Boss and Grimey. There's also an extra for fans, with the set unlocking the Beef Boss Outfit in the LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite games. The third set announced, LEGO Fortnite Klombo will allow builders 10+ to befriend one of LEGO Fortnite's characters. Fitted with movable legs, an opening mouth and rotating tail, as well as including a small Klomberry bush with detachable Klomberries, this is an 1,084-piece model. The set also features minifigures of Island Adventure Peely and Oro and includes a digital bonus allowing builders to redeem the Island Adventure Peely Outfit in the LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite games. Completing the new releases is a set for older builders, the LEGO Fortnite Mecha Team Leader. The 2,503-piece model offers fans an immersive project based on the character that saved the Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 1 Island. Lego executive and friend of Denmark's Queen Mary dies in skiing accident
Michael Halbye, Lego executive and friend of Denmark's Queen Mary, died on Saturday after a fall during a skiing session, according to Kirkbi, a management company that owns The LEGO Group. He was 64. Halbye fell while skiing in the Verbier region of the Swiss Alps, Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet reported. He was airlifted to a hospital and died of internal bleeding, Kirkbi said in a Monday statement. The 64-year-old was a member of the Kirkbi board of directors since 2020, and served as vice chairman of the company since 2022. Kirkbi is a Danish investment company that manages the Kirk Kristiansen family's wealth, which founded the LEGO Group in 1932. In a statement, the Kirk Kristiansen family said it is "in deep mourning." "Our thoughts and care go to Michael's family and loved ones, who are now faced with having to process the unexpected loss of a man who in all facets of life has left a great and positive impression on those around him," Thomas Kirk Kristiansen said. "We will miss Michael as Vice Chairman but first and foremost as a person." Halbye was a friend of Queen Mary of Denmark, serving in the board of directors for her foundation, the Mary Foundation. The foundation's mission is to fight social isolation. The queen bid farewell to her friend in a statement posted Monday to the foundation's page, saying that "he will be missed by many." "Michael Halbye was a man who possessed a rare positive energy, extensive knowledge and a strong commitment to making a difference for those outside the community," the queen said.
