What Is Starbase? Elon Musk Builds a SpaceX City With Shops, Worker Housing and Its Own Mayor — But Texas Locals Aren't Happy

Elon Musk's Starbase, SpaceX's self-contained city in South Texas, became official in May 2025, now planning major expansion. While it offers worker housing and amenities, local residents are unhappy, citing environmental worries impacting wildlife and public beach access. Discontent is brewing among the South Texas residents who fear that Elon Musk's ambitious project Starbase is being developed at the cost of environment, health and their living. As per MyRGV, SpaceX's expansion has angered residents in South Texas due to their worries about its overall adverse effects on their life. Since officially gaining city status in May 2025, Starbase is actively developing into a comprehensive company town with the ongoing plans involve building more accommodation, retail spaces, and eateries so as to cater to the increasing number of employees who commute 40 minutes from Brownsville. The locals have apprehensions about the approval which SpaceX got recently to increase rocket launches from five to 25 annually. What Is Starbase? Starbase is a recently established city, home to the SpaceX complex, which shares its name. As part of its Starship programme, the company handles spacecraft design, production, and launch within these facilities. SpaceX has gradually established a company town around its Starbase facilities for close to a decade. While the area once had about 30 residences, SpaceX has acquired nearly all of these previous homeowners' properties. Jordan Buss, senior director of environmental health and safety at SpaceX, and Jenna Petrzelka, former manager of engineering operations at SpaceX, filled the two commissioner roles. Bobby Peden will manage the daily administrative duties unless the commission appoints a city manager. Where Is Starbase Located? Situated about 25 miles east of Brownsville, Texas, on the north side of the US-Mexico border, Starbase's boundaries follow State Highway 4. This encompasses Boca Chica Village, part of Boca Chica Beach, and land used or earmarked by SpaceX for its facilities. State Highway 4 is the only road in and out of Starbase and provides local access to Boca Chica Beach. 🚨🇺🇸 STARBASE ON TRACK TO BECOME AMERICA'S FIRST SPACE-AGE CITYStarbase, Texas is about to go official. By the time it became operational in 2019, SpaceX had refocused its local efforts on Starship, a reusable spacecraft intended for crew and cargo transport to space. SpaceX has since expanded its operations beyond the launch complex to include offices, production, and testing sites. In 2024, Musk declared the company's headquarters would relocate from California to Starbase, referencing a new gender identity law. Local Concerns Erupt SpaceX's expansion has reportedly angered other local residents due to worries about its adverse effects on the environment, wildlife, and public beach access. The city's swift growth and strong links to SpaceX, coupled with Musk's controversial public image, have generated unease over potential environmental harm and the degree of corporate sway in local governance. Environmental Impact and Legal Challenges Environmental groups voice concerns over the added noise, heat, and debris from operations affecting local wildlife, waterways, and nearby protected lands. Specifically, they worry about endangered species such as the Kemp's ridley sea turtle and the piping plover, a bird species protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty. The house rumbled and the sky lit up; it was so loud, despite being several miles from Starbase — (Flames) Senator Flamesceza ★ (@Flamesceza) June 19, 2025 According to CNBC, environmental agencies have cited SpaceX for Clean Water Act violations. Additionally, environmental advocacy groups have sued both SpaceX and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), arguing the company failed to adequately prevent or rectify harm to the surrounding environment, including wildlife refuges and other protected areas. The FAA has denied these claims. SpaceX maintains it has implemented 'an extensive list of mitigations developed with federal and state agencies.' The company also organises quarterly beach clean-ups and works with Sea Turtle Inc. to locate and relocate injured sea turtles. How nuclear wars start

"I am honored to be with Elon Musk. He is my friend and has done a fantastic job. He did not need this ' — Tesla Owners Silicon Valley (@teslaownersSV) May 31, 2025 Friends then …. I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 3, 2025 Elon points out the spending bill increases spending and the deficit and debt, not cuts it. Trump attacks Elon. Incidentally Musk is on record numerous times saying he supports ending the EV subsidies and mandates. Trump then says he wants to terminate all government contracts with companies owned by Elon. Time to drop the really big bomb:@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Elon goes nuclear. Elon has 220 million followers on Twitter and is worth around US$420 billion. This is going to be spectacular.

X Money: Elon Musk's Digital Payment Platform to Launch in Beta Soon

Elon Musk's vision of transforming X (formerly Twitter) into an all-encompassing digital platform is one step closer to reality. The billionaire entrepreneur recently confirmed that X Money, a new digital payment feature, is nearing its beta rollout phase. This development aligns with Musk's larger ambition to evolve X into a multifunctional "everything app" that combines social media, messaging, and now, financial services. 🚨BREAKING: Confirmed by Elon — X is launching X Money soon 💸📲Payments. Banking. The everything app just got even bigger. — Tesla Owners Silicon Valley (@teslaownersSV) May 25, 2025 In a recent post on X, Musk shared that the service is almost ready for limited beta testing. While the exact release date hasn't been officially announced, the infrastructure powering the payment system is reportedly in its final stages of development. As the beta phase is expected to launch with limited access, only a select number of users will get early hands-on experience with the platform. X Money: A Key Component of the 'Everything App' Vision X Money is designed to enable users to send and receive funds directly through the app, turning X into more than just a space for tweets and threads. Musk's aim is to integrate commerce and financial features within the platform, making it similar to how apps like WeChat and WhatsApp have expanded into financial services. This will be a very limited access beta at first. When people's saving are involved, extreme care must be taken. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 25, 2025 Though comprehensive details remain under wraps, Musk's recent statements indicate that the service will be rolled out with extreme caution. Responding to a post by @teslaownerssv, which mentioned that X Money will soon introduce payments and banking services, Musk replied, 'When people's savings are involved, extreme care must be taken.' His statement highlights the company's emphasis on user safety and regulatory compliance during the early stages. Support for Crypto and Collaborations on the Horizon According to several reports, X Money will likely support cryptocurrency transactions, with Bitcoin expected to be a key element in the payments ecosystem. Additionally, Musk is reportedly in talks with financial services giant Visa to enhance transaction capabilities, suggesting a hybrid model of traditional banking and modern digital finance. The official X Money handle confirmed that a public launch is scheduled for 2025, following extensive beta testing and regulatory clearance. Musk is said to be pursuing approval in all 50 U.S. states before a full-scale rollout, ensuring that the platform complies with legal requirements and financial oversight across the country. More Than Just a Payment System Musk has been reshaping X since acquiring it in October 2022. Changes have included a subscription-based verification model and new monetization options for content creators. The addition of a native payment system could dramatically transform how users engage with the app, potentially allowing them to shop, donate, or tip content creators, all without leaving the platform. In a recent post on X, Musk shared, 'Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,' reflecting his hands-on approach and commitment to the company's future. He also noted his current focus on multiple high-stakes projects, including xAI, Tesla, Starship, and now, X Money, hinting at a brief pause from his political engagements. With features like banking, crypto support, and peer-to-peer transactions, X Money represents a major leap in Musk's plan to reinvent social media—and possibly the way we manage our money online.

Elon Musk is always in the news. Be it his equation with US President Donald Trump or his comments on social media, the Tesla boss never fails to hog the limelight. Now, his post on X (formerly Twitter) has also caught the attention of users for one specific reason. Wondering, why? The billionaire has shared a clip of a Tesla robot bursting out some cool dance moves. Remember all those robot dance moves you might have done as a joke when you were younger? This machine puts all of them to shame. The video features a Tesla Optimus robot flaunting its ability to groove. The clip was shared by Elon Musk's account (gorklon rust) with an emoji of a dancing man. Replying to his post, he shared that the video was captured in 'real real-time." Users were shocked to see the robot's life-like dance moves. One account claimed that the robot might have been trying to tap dance. 'What does Tesla's Optimus robot dancing show about the future of robots in our daily lives?" a user asked.
