Nafuzi adopts bold approach to evaluate players ahead of AFF U-23 C'ship
PETALING JAYA: With time ticking ahead of the AFF Under-23 Championship in Jakarta, Malaysia coach Nafuzi Zain is taking a bold approach in evaluating players – he has rolled out a series of internal sparring matches called the Elite Games. The initiative, which runs from June 22-25, aims to provide a testing ground for 26 of the nation's most promising young footballers. It's a critical phase for Nafuzi, who has less than a month to shape a squad capable of navigating a tricky Group A that features the Philippines (July 15), Brunei (July 18), and hosts Indonesia (July 21) at the iconic Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. 'We have a lot of youngsters who represent the future of Malaysian football,' said Nafuzi. 'This Elite Games phase allows us to monitor these players closely before our centralised camp starts on July 1.' Nafuzi, known for his keen eye for youth development from his days with Terengganu and Kedah, is putting faith in locally based players, as the AFF U-23 Championship will feature a fully domestic squad. 'It's a short window to evaluate and prepare, but this platform gives us clarity on the boys' technical abilities, mental strength and how they respond in competitive situations,' he added. Complementing the talent pool are players like centreback Ubaidullah Shamsul and striker Haqimi Azim Rosli, who have trained with the senior squad. That stint, according to Nafuzi, offered invaluable exposure and a taste of the standards required at the highest level. 'We're working closely with coach Peter (Cklamovski), and the playing style we're adopting mirrors the national team's. That's essential for continuity and long-term development.'

According to the American Society for Quality, an audit is an on-site verification activity, such as an inspection or examination, of a process or quality system to ensure compliance to requirements. An audit can apply to an entire company or may be specific to a function, process or production step. Some audits have special administrative purposes, such as auditing documents, risk or performance, or following up on completed corrective actions. Some audits are to comply with statutory requirements and therefore must be conducted in accordance with relevant legislation. Failure to comply with audit requirements and failure to take corrective actions following an audit can lead to penalties or legal action. Marang exit nothing to do with PAS presidency, says Samsuri

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has dismissed speculation he is not defending his post of Marang PAS chief so that he can vie for the party's presidency. Samsuri said his decision was simply aimed at allowing new leaders to take over the divisional post and to focus on preparations for the next general election (GE16). The Terengganu menteri besar also said there is no reason for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to step down from the top post when the Islamic party is performing strongly. 'The question of (Hadi) stepping down doesn't arise. Why entertain such thoughts (about having a new PAS president) when the party is performing so well? 'The current momentum must be maintained,' he said, according to Berita Harian. Yesterday, political analyst Azmi Hassan told FMT that Samsuri's decision not to defend the Marang PAS chief's post could be a tactical move so that he could contest for a higher position in the party hierarchy. Azmi said relinquishing his long-held position might not just be about giving Marang PAS a breath of fresh air but possibly an early sign of Samsuri's greater political ambitions ahead of GE16. It was reported recently that Hadi, 77, had hinted at stepping down as PAS president due to health reasons, after leading the party since 2002. Following that, speculation began circulating regarding his successor, including calls for the continuation of clerical leadership in the Islamic party. Samsuri, a former political aide to Hadi, has been touted as a potential prime minister candidate from PAS, though the ulama faction in the party is said to be resistant to him taking the helm because of his technocrat background. PAS is expected to hold its party elections in September.

Court grants bail to woman charged with murdering UiTM students
Norizan Ismail faces three charges of murder in connection with the deaths of UiTM Dungun students Akmal Tukirim, Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, and Khairil Anuar Jamaluddin. Justice Hassan Abdul Ghani said he found the defence's argument that the collision was an unintentional road accident and that the accused, Norizan Ismail, 50, had also skidded into a drain, reasonable. 'In a plane crash, you wouldn't assume that the pilot flew the plane intending to kill people. Perhaps the same can be said of Norizan,' Bernama reported him as saying. The court ordered Norizan to report to the Dungun police station once every two months, barred her from operating any vehicles, and ordered her husband or bailor to ensure that she has no access to any vehicle keys. The court also said that she could only leave her home when accompanied by her husband. It said she must continue receiving hospital treatment and is prohibited from contacting or interfering with any witnesses until the trial concludes. Deputy public prosecutor Khairuddin Idris proposed bail of RM30,000 with two sureties but urged the court to deny bail altogether, citing the potential risk of further offences. In response to a query from the judge, defence counsel Shahir Jusoh said Norizan had a scheduled hospital appointment in Kuala Lumpur and was also undergoing alternative treatment. On Oct 15 last year, Norizan was charged with three counts of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code in connection with the deaths of UiTM Dungun students Akmal Tukirim, 25, Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, and Khairil Anuar Jamaluddin, 20. The court ordered Norizan to be sent to Permai Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, which found her fit to stand trial. Norizan also faces a charge under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code at the Kuala Terengganu sessions court of attempted murder involving another UiTM student who sustained injuries in the same crash.

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 17 — The High Court today granted RM40,000 bail with two sureties to a woman charged with murdering three Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun students in a road crash on Oct 9 last year. In delivering his decision, Judge Datuk Hassan Abdul Ghani found the defence's argument that the collision was an unintentional road accident and that the accused, Norizan Ismail, 50, had also skidded into a drain, to be reasonable. 'Just like a plane crash, you wouldn't assume the pilot flew the plane intending to kill people. Perhaps the same can be said of Norizan,' he said. The court also imposed the following bail conditions: the accused must report to the Dungun police station once every two months; she is prohibited from operating any vehicle, including cars, motorcycles, or bicycles; and her husband or bailor must ensure she has no access to any vehicle keys. Additional conditions include that the accused may only leave her home when accompanied by her husband, must continue receiving hospital treatment, and is prohibited from contacting or interfering with any witnesses until the trial concludes. If the accused breaches any of the conditions, the bail will be automatically revoked and the bail sum forfeited. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris proposed bail at RM30,000 with two sureties but urged the court to deny bail altogether, citing the potential risk of further offences. Subsequently, the court ordered Norizan to be sent to Hospital Permai for psychiatric evaluation, which found her fit to stand trial. Norizan is also facing a charge under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code at the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court for attempted murder involving another UiTM student who sustained injuries in the same crash. — Bernama
