'Rappa Rappa': Chandrababu Naidu Vs Jagan Reddy Over YSRCP Worker's 'Pushpa 2' Dialogue

Last Updated: The YSRCP worker, who was previously affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), compared opposition leaders to goats being lined up for sacrifice A fresh political storm erupted in Andhra Pradesh on Friday after a YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) supporter invoked the dialogue 'Rappa Rappa" from the Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2, during a recent public meeting, comparing political adversaries to sacrificial animals. The YSRCP worker, who was previously affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), compared opposition leaders to goats being lined up for sacrifice, citing the Gangamma Jatara tradition. He used the line 'Rapa Rapa Narukutham" (we'll chop heads one by one) during Reddy's public rally to symbolise their supposed fate, drawing outrage from the ruling TDP. Defending the remarks, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, 'Even though he was a TDP member, he joined the YSRCP, displaying a sense of regional anger against the government for its failure on promises. He made statements like 'Rappa rappa, like Gangamma Jatara…' meaning what?" He added: 'He meant to say that people are that angry with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, that he has failed them and betrayed them. The anger is such that even a Telugu Desam Party karyakarta jumped to our party and said, 'Just like in Gangamma Jatara, where an animal is sacrificed by beheading, they will behave towards TDP — rappa rappa." 'Is it wrong to use a movie dialogue in a democracy?" Reddy questioned. He further accused the Chief Minister of misrule and claimed the comments were a reflection of people's frustration with the TDP's tenure. 'If there is a dialogue in movies that is a joke, can it be put on a flex banner? Do you think that people are killed in movies and it is okay to kill them outside?" he asked, warning that such language fuels a culture of violence. He continued, 'If a person thinks, 'I will do anything, I will kill my Babai,' who are you to say? What is the trend? What is the message you're trying to send to the public?" — calling Jagan's endorsement of such language deeply irresponsible. 'We have been seeing certain individuals in the state lately behaving like maniacs, making statements such as, 'We will cut off, we will kill, we will behead people.' This is the mindset of criminals," Naidu further said. TDP leader and IT Minister Nara Lokesh also took to social media to condemn the rhetoric. 'Will you slaughter them like sheep, @ysjagan? … Your attitude is very dangerous for democracy," he posted on X (formerly Twitter). Chandrababu Naidu vs Jagan Reddy Over Party Worker's Pushpa 2 Poster

Amaravati: A poster of a dialogue from actor Allu Arjun's movie 'Pushpa 2' has triggered a row between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his predecessor YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. A worker of Mr Reddy's party, YSRCP, was arrested for showing a placard with a provocative slogan "Rapa Rapa Narukutham" (we'll chop heads one by one) during Mr Reddy's recent public rally. The poster referred to a possible YSRCP return to power after the 2029 state assembly elections. Speaking on the controversy during a press conference, Mr Reddy on Thursday said there was nothing wrong with using film dialogues. "Is it a democracy or not, that we cannot even use film dialogues? Is it wrong to do this (gestures) or do that? We are not living in a democracy?" he asked. He also claimed that the person who held the placard belonged to Mr Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP). "Maybe he couldn't tolerate the wrongdoings of his own party's leader, Chandrababu, and that's why he was talking about chopping off heads of his people," Mr Reddy quipped. Mr Naidu also reacted to the controversy and said that "criminals only work with a criminal mindset". "They are trying to just divert the public's attention," Mr Naidu, who returned to power last year, said. Mr Naidu's son and Telangana Minister Nara Lokesh also slammed Mr Reddy and said his "attitude was very dangerous for democracy". "Will you slaughter them like sheep? What does it mean that you are defending the language of your admirer? Your attitude is very dangerous for democracy," he posted on X, and tagged Mr Reddy.

Jagan Reddy under fire for backing party supporter's violent Pushpa 2 dialogue

Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has drawn sharp criticism for remarks seen as endorsing a violent statement made by a supporter of his party, the YSRCP, during a recent public supporter, who was previously affiliated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), used language likening political opponents to sacrificial animals, invoking a popular scene from the film Pushpa 2. The supporter drew on imagery from the local Gangamma Jatara ritual, in which animal beheadings are traditionally his address, Jagan referred to the supporter's statement and said, 'Even though he was a TDP member, he joined the YSRCP, displaying a sense of regional anger against the government for its failure on promises. He made statements like 'Rappa rappa, like Gangamma Jatara...' meaning what?' Elaborating further, he said, 'He meant to say that people are that angry with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, that he has failed them and betrayed them. The anger is such that even a Telugu Desam Party karyakarta jumped to our party and said, 'Just like in Gangamma Jatara, where an animal is sacrificed by beheading, they will behave towards TDP — rappa rappa. Good only he said! What is wrong?''The phrase 'Rappa rappa' is a colloquial Telugu expression meaning 'day by day' or 'soon, one by one.'advertisementThe TDP has strongly condemned Jagan's endorsement of the statement. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu questioned the appropriateness of such rhetoric, he said, 'If there is a dialogue in movies that is a joke, can it be put on a flex banner? Do you think that people are killed in movies and it is okay to kill them outside? Do you think that because rape is shown in films, it is acceptable outside as well?''If there is a dialogue in movies that is a joke, can it be put on flexi? Do you think that people are killed in movies, and even killed outside? Do you think that rape is done in movies, and even done outside is not wrong?' the Chief Minister asked.'If a person thinks, 'I will do anything, I will kill my Babai,' who are you to say? What is the trend? What is the message you're trying to send to the public?' he added, calling Jagan's endorsement deeply Minister Naidu further said, 'We have been seeing certain individuals in the state lately behaving like maniacs, making statements such as, 'We will cut off we will kill we will behead people.' This is the mindset of criminals.'advertisementAndhra IT Minister Nara Lokesh also responded sharply in a post on X, questioning Jagan's justification. 'Will you slaughter them like sheep, @ysjagan? What does it mean that you are defending the language of your admirer? Your attitude is very dangerous for democracy.' He ended his post with the hashtags #BloodOnYourHandsJagan and # Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav also condemned the remarks. 'The film dialogues used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and those used by Jagan are completely different — they reflect a person's mindset,' he said.'When you say, 'People will be killed, rappa rappa,' whom exactly are you planning to kill? If a youth repeats such a line, as a former Chief Minister, Jagan should have condemned it. Instead, he responds with amusement, thereby encouraging such behaviour — which could result in more people fighting and even killing each other,' Keshav warned. IN THIS STORY#Andhra Pradesh
