Telangana Governor felicitates Miss World 2025 winners at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 2 (UNI) Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, and the First Lady, Sudha Dev Varma, hosted a ceremonial felicitation in honour of the Miss World 2025 winners at the historic Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad on Monday evening, on the occasion of Telangana State Formation Day. A special High Tea was organised to celebrate the global achievements and humanitarian efforts of the pageant winners. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, several cabinet ministers, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and other dignitaries. In his address, the Governor extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Telangana, both within India and abroad, marking the state's resilient journey since its formation on June 2, 2014. He highlighted Telangana's transformation into a symbol of inclusive development, cultural revival, and progressive governance. Emphasising the harmony between global elegance and grassroots wisdom, the Governor unveiled a new eco-initiative under the aegis of Raj Bhavan Telangana. The programme promotes the production of biodegradable leaf plates by tribal communities, particularly empowering women and youth through sustainable livelihood opportunities. 'This is not merely a programme,' said the Governor, 'but a movement—for sustainability, for dignity, and for our planet.' In a symbolic gesture underscoring the message of environmental stewardship, all food served at the event was presented on traditional leaf plates handmade by tribal artisans from remote villages of Telangana. With active support from Raj Bhavan, tribal women and youth are being trained in the production of eco-friendly leaf plates and cups—turning indigenous traditions into viable income-generating enterprises. This thoughtful initiative exemplifies the Governor's deep commitment to environmental responsibility and tribal welfare. The Governor also paid glowing tributes to the Miss World 2025 titleholders for their inspiring personal stories and achievements. Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, who became the first Thai woman to win the Miss World crown after bravely overcoming cancer surgery at the age of 16, was especially honoured for her extraordinary resilience. Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia, the First Runner-Up, was lauded for her poise and strength in the face of personal adversity. Maja Kladja of Poland and Aurélie Joachim of Martinique, who earned Second and Third Runner-Up titles respectively, were praised for their empowering representation of diversity and inclusion. Other outstanding participants—including Jéssica Scandiuzzi Pedroso, Krishnah Marie Gravidez, and Jasmine Odette Stringer—were also recognised for their meaningful contributions and inspiring presence. Commending the Government of Telangana for its exemplary hosting of the Miss World 2025 pageant, the Governor noted the memorable experiences curated for international guests, including visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites, ancient temples, pristine landscapes, and iconic cultural landmarks—each showcasing Telangana's timeless heritage and dynamic cultural fabric. The evening was a celebration of global acclaim and local pride, symbolising Telangana's growing stature as a centre for sustainable innovation, cultural brilliance, and international harmony, a Raj Bhavan communique said. Focus on waste audit, segregation and management in 100-day municipal action plan

Waste audit of assessing the quantity and types of waste generated in a specific area, waste segregation and sustainable waste management practices will be the main focus of the 100-day action plan initiated by the government for improving conditions in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs, apart from the GHMC) across the State on the Telangana State Formation Day from June 2. The plan cleared by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also holds the municipal administration and urban development department, includes identifying gaps in segregation, reducing waste reduction, recycling and better disposal practices. The audit will be to assess waste composition, identify gaps in segregation at every major source like a school, market, commercial area etc., informed top officials. It is to help in recommending strategies for waste reduction, recycling, and better disposal practices. Householders will also be encouraged to separate wet and dry waste at the source itself with separate bins. Local bodies have been directed to promote composting of organic waste to reduce landfill problem burden and also generate compost at the household/community level. Composting units will be set up in schools to process organic waste like food and garden waste, they said. Sanitary workers at all levels will be profiled to ensure they get their dues, including ESI/PF benefits, even as health camps will be held. The action plan also involves fixing iron mesh over open drains to prevent the entry of solid waste – a major issue of municipalities - reduce blockages and enhance cleanliness. Desiltation of storm water drains, removal of debris to prevent water logging is also on cards. Apart from reworking the street vending units and testing for food quality, street food festivals are to be conducted. The ULBs have been told to promote urban greenery and beautification efforts like development of at least one traffic junction and a park. The 'Bhuvan' survey for identification of unassessed and under assessed properties to bring them in tax net is being revived as part of the drive in association with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). Identifying commercial and mixed properties lacking trade licences and collecting fee, door-to-door survey of all water supply house service connections for ward wise enumeration, and so on are among the activities earmarked during this period, they added.
