"Wisdom and appeal of yoga are both universal and timeless": BJP MP Tejasvi Surya

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday applauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his dedicated efforts in making yoga popular globally and stated that the wisdom and appeal of yoga were 'universal' and 'timeless'. He further stated that Yoga was not just India's soft power but also a living bridge between the ancient, modern and the rest of the world with India. 'The wisdom and appeal of yoga are both universal and timeless. I'm just returning from a multicountry delegation, the diplomatic outreach of Operation Sindoor and in all of these countries that we met, there was great enthusiasm and following for India's Yoga, Pranayama, and spiritual traditions. This is not just India's soft power, but it is also a living bridge between the ancient and the modern, between India and the rest of the world. Thanks to our Prime Minister's dedicated efforts, more than 180 countries are today observing International Yoga Day...' Surya told ANI. He further added that more than two thousand practitioners joined the celebrations of the International Yoga Day held in Bengaluru. 'Today, we had the opportunity to celebrate International Yoga Day here in Bengaluru South with more than 2 thousand practitioners of yoga. Many Consulate Generals from many countries who have their consulates in Bengaluru participated with us. Yoga is India's gift to the world,' he further stated. Lashing out at the opposition, the BJP MP questioned them if they had become puppets of the foreign agents. 'The questions that we must ask are not for the government but to the Congress Party, on where your loyalties lie?... Have they become puppets of foreign agents? Should we not place faith and trust in our institutions? This is the question we must be asking the Congress Party,' Surya further stated. He also stated that the Government of India had made it clear that the strikes launched on Pakistan were to send a message that no form of terror would be tolerated. 'Not once but on multiple occasions, the Government of India has made our position, the Prime Minister himself has made our position clear even in a telephonic conversation to the President of the United States. The factual matrix of Operations Sindoor, India's resolve to fight terror and India's commitment to solving our issues internally or at most bilaterally without the interference or intervention of any third party. We have also made it abundantly clear that the ceasefire was requested directly by the military officers of Pakistan talking to India's military officers, and because India did not want to escalate violence or war in any manner, India agreed to a ceasefire because we gave the message to Pakistan that terror in any form will not be tolerated...' he further stated. Non-profit group releases ‘report cards' of MPs and MLAs

Bengaluru: CIVIC Bangalore, a non-profit focused on urban governance and decentralisation, released 'Citizen report cards' for the city's elected representatives - four MPs and 32 MLAs, in the city on Saturday. The report was released during an event 'Namma Neta Namma Review.' The report cards were put together by citizen volunteers and student interns at the organisations over the course of the last six months, using publicly available data sources such as Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly websites, Right to Information filings, and Local Area Development scheme dashboards, among other sources. A Krishna Prashanth, a volunteer, shared that only four MLAs have fully utilised the Rs 4 crore made available under the Karnataka Legislator Local Area Development Scheme (KLLADS) over two terms: S Raghu (C V Raman Nagar), Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda (Hosakote), Uday Garudachar (Chickpet), and B A Basavaraja (Krishnarajapuram). Only one-fourth of the MLAs have allocated more than 90% of the funds, and as a result, Rs 40.79 crore of KLLADS currently lie unspent. Manjula S (Mahadevpura) has not allocated any of her KLLADS funds. Among the MPs, P C Mohan has allocated only Rs 47 lakh out of 5 crore made available in the current term — the lowest in comparison to the other MPs. C N Manjunath leads the other MPs in terms of fund allocations, having allocated Rs 6.3 crore, encompassing two years' worth of funds, mainly on bus shelters, community halls, roads and drainage. Tejasvi Surya has allocated 34.48% of his funds towards providing drinking water and 30.17% on public space development. Shobha Karandlaje's highest fund allocation, at 19.47%, was towards the education sector. While PC Mohan had the highest attendance (98.51%) among the aforementioned MPs, he only participated in one debate. However, Tejasvi Surya, whose attendance fell below the national average of 87%, standing at 77.61%, participated in 13 debates and asked 84 questions in the Parliament. Of the 84 questions, only six were centered around Bengaluru. Actor Prakash Belawadi was the chief guest at the event. He urged the citizens to hold their elected representatives responsible and organise protests when necessary.

Bengaluru stampede: Open invitation without preparation is criminal negligence, says MP Tejasvi Surya

Bengaluru: Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya criticized the decision to hold an open invitation event at Chinnaswamy Stadium without logistical preparation as "criminal negligence" that culminated in the loss of 11 innocent lives. Drawing a comparison with the 2011 World Cup victory celebrations in Mumbai, Surya said despite the participation of over 15 lakh people there, no such tragedy occurred. That was because of better crowd management and planning in Mumbai, he pointed out. Surya lashed out at what he described as an "egotistical and irresponsible" attempt by the state's top leadership, including CM Siddaramiah and DCM DK Shivakumar, to get involved in RCB celebrations and "bask in undeserved glory". He alleged that despite being fully aware of the massive crowd that would gather for the event, the govt failed to make adequate safety arrangements. "It is not cricketers or fans who are to blame. The state govt, particularly the CM and DCM, orchestrated a scenario that led to this tragic stampede," Surya said. He urged the RCB franchise to show solidarity with its fanbase. "Even though there is no legal obligation, morally and humanely, the franchise should come forward to support and compensate the victims' families," Surya said.

Washington DC [US], June 6 (ANI): BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Thursday held Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar 'squarely responsible' over the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4 that left 11 dead and dozens injured. The incident occurred when a massive crowd of fans gathered to greet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after they had won the IPL.
