Fast Feeney first for Supercars qualifying in Perth
Triple Eight star Broc Feeney is primed to claim back-to-back wins in Perth after snatching provisional pole. Supercars championship leader Feeney blitzed the pack by 0.0328 seconds and will be the final driver to have a solo attempt at Wanneroo Raceway in the deciding top-10 shootout on Sunday. Feeney clocked a lap time of 53.8300 seconds, with Team 18 driver David Reynolds second fastest. Grove Racing youngster Matt Payne was third, while reigning champion Will Brown also made the shootout in fourth. Ryan Wood recovered from an early error in the first of two portions of qualifying to be sixth fastest. The Walkinshaw Andretti United youngster had locked up his front wheels and ventured into the sand at turn seven. On Saturday, Wood broke through for an emotional maiden Supercars win, before a suspension failure ended his bid for back-to-back victories. Meanwhile, Wood's teammate Chaz Mostert will struggle to back up his podium efforts after qualifying in 14th.

Supercars sophomore Evans tops Perth practice
Jaxon Evans has kicked off Supercars action in Perth by setting the fastest time in the opening practice session. The Brad Jones Racing driver surged to the top of the time sheet at Wanneroo Raceway on Friday, clocking 55.086 seconds after putting on new soft tyres. He was 0.359 seconds quicker than fellow sophomore driver Ryan Wood, with championship leader Broc Feeney third fastest. Rookies and drivers in their second year are allotted an extra set of tyres for practice, allowing Evans to post his time. Evans will be out to continue his rise after posting his career-best qualifying result in Tasmania last round, starting seventh in the final sprint race. "It's really nice to finish the session on top. It's the first time I've done it in Supercars," Evans said. "It's just nice to know that the car is fast. Hopefully we can continue that way." Triple Eight ace Feeney is out to extend his 33-point lead over reigning champion Will Brown, eyeing a clean sweep of the three sprint races in Perth. Brown was sixth fastest in practice. Meanwhile, Walkinshaw Andretti United's Wood will hope to break through for a maiden career win after finishing on the podium for the first time in New Zealand. Team 18 duo Anton De Pasquale and David Reynolds both had hairy moments at turn six, with 17th-fastest Reynolds travelling deep into the sand trap. De Pasquale was lucky to avoid beaching himself, finishing fourth fastest.
