ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired the 46th Steering Committee meeting of the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme (SAP). The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including federal ministers for Inter-provincial Coordination, Planning and Development, Power, Parliamentary Affairs, SAPM Tariq Bajwa; federal secretaries; Members of the National Assembly, and representatives of provincial governments. The meeting focused on reviewing the utilisation of savings and available funds with executing agencies, and streamlining implementation to ensure timely completion of ongoing schemes. 'Resources utilized in best interest of citizens' The DPM/FM emphasised the importance of fully utilising the allocated resources before the close of the current financial year, underscoring the need to deliver results within the stipulated timelines. He directed all stakeholders to expedite efforts to ensure timely development targets. The DPM/FM noted the government's resolve to aligning development efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for inclusive and meaningful progress that reflects the development priorities of the nation. The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including ministers of Power, Commerce, Religious Affairs, and Science and Technology, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, federal secretaries, members of the National Assembly, and officials of the provincial government. The DPM stressed the importance of involving local communities in identifying basic development infrastructure projects. He emphasised the government's resolve to ensure that resources are utilized in the best interest of Pakistan's citizens, aligning them with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The DPM/FM received detailed briefings on various proposals for developing industrial parks. He underscored the urgency of expediting SEZs at the Karachi Steel Mills site and emphasised incorporating global best practices to attract foreign and domestic investment. Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting of the committee for the upcoming Overseas Pakistanis Conference scheduled for April. The committee in its meeting discussed enhancing services and support mechanisms for overseas Pakistanis, with key stakeholders discussing strategic initiatives to streamline engagement and facilitate their contributions towards national progress, a DPM's Office news release said. The deputy prime minister directed that selected proposals should be finalised, reaffirming Pakistan's priority to bolster economic, trade, and investment ties with friendly countries. The DPM chaired the 4th inter-ministerial meeting, on investment project proposals with friendly countries. During the meeting, the committee reviewed briefs on potential investments in key sectors, including infrastructure, petroleum, trade, and information technology (IT), a DPM's Office news release said. The DPM also reiterated the government's unwavering focus on enhancing strategic partnerships and fostering cross-sector collaboration. SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Federal Secretaries for Foreign Affairs, Petroleum, IT, and Economic Affairs, Chairman NHA, Special Secretary Finance & Petroleum, and senior officials from SIFC, MoFA, Communications, and other departments attended the meeting.
