The hottest status symbols at the Cannes ad confab

Happy Saturday! A 51-year-old woman says she's in the best shape of her life after ditching cardio and getting into strength training. Here's how she did it. On the agenda: A dietitian explains why eating dessert can help you lose more weight and keep it off. A heated debate about location sharing is dividing generations. Creatine is a longevity wonder supplement — and it's not just for gym bros. The new American dream? Buying and renting out vacation homes in Italy. But first: Bonjour de Cannes! This week's dispatch The status symbols CMOs are into More than 15,000 marketing leaders and creatives descended on the French Riviera for this year's Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France. And while the thousands of chief marketing officers traded industry secrets and attended panels and networking events, I spent my time on the lookout for the status symbols they were wearing. You know … the important reporting we all want to know about. Right? Right. After spending six days with this group, I noticed two beloved items over and over again. One wasn't a shocker, while the other was a nice surprise. The first status symbol I noticed as soon as I touched down at the airport in Nice, before trekking the 45 minutes to Cannes, was that most of the marketers had Away luggage. It's not a new hot item, but it's easy to see why the brand is beloved by these busy professionals. They have a sleek, minimalist design. They're quite light, around 7.5 pounds, making it easy to head to Cannes or any other locale, and they have wheels that turn 360 degrees. Another travel item I saw time and again throughout my week in sunny Cannes was Celine sunglasses. The French designer's accessory is the ultimate "if you know, you know" product, as they're not deemed trendy. Instead, because of their quality — premium acetate and gold hardware — the sunnies were a favorite among marketers. During my panel at The FQ Lounge, Jennifer Wilson, the CMO of Lowe's, had also noticed the trend and said she had to pick up a pair, which range in price from $300 to more than $500, before she left France. Just desserts You don't have to cut out sweet treats to eat healthier. Having dessert or other favorite foods can actually help dieters reach weight-loss goals, Tara Schmidt, lead dietitian for the Mayo Clinic diet, told BI. The key is moderation. Sharing your location with friends and family has become a heated debate among generations. BI spoke to people from all age groups to find out why. Gen Z is generally chill about it, with some citing convenience as a reason. Gen X is indifferent, seeing the pros and cons. The creatine craze is more than just hype Researchers typically have a healthy mistrust of supplements, but creatine is the rare exception. Evidence is piling up about its positive effects on your body, brain, and longevity. Gym bros love creatine because it helps build muscle, but it's not just for bulking up. Early research suggests it can support hormonal health for both women and men. New research suggests creatine can help with brain performance, too. Plus, it's relatively inexpensive. Kambalda students help expand museum's Aboriginal bush food garden

A class of green-thumbed Goldfields students have helped to expand the Museum of the Goldfields' Aboriginal Bush Food and Medicine Garden. Twenty-four Year 3 students from Kambalda West District High School and their teachers planted 54 plants last Wednesday, including species such as the Goldfields bottlebrush, karkurla, emu bush and maroon bush. The garden was established in the museum's front courtyard in 2022 to preserve and share Aboriginal knowledge of native plants. More than 70 plants were added to the garden in December following a three-year partnership between Gold Fields, the WA Museum, and the Foundation for the WA Museum. The partnership will see the museum expand its educational programming to include hands-on exploration of the garden. During their visit, the Kambalda students got to try the new program which will be available to all schools from July. It focused on six plants which are particularly significant to the Goldfields. Students' senses were engaged as they looked at, touched, smelled and even got a taste of the plants. They learnt about the traditional uses for each plant, explored their life cycles, discussed sustainability, and created a native herb bouquet to take home and cook with and share the experience with their families. The cohort was joined by Gold Fields' staff and rangers from Goldfields Aboriginal Community Services, who helped answer students' questions and assist them with the planting. Museum of the Goldfields regional manager Kirsty Brooks said the education program fostered intercultural understanding through hands-on learning. 'By connecting students to country and showcasing sustainable practices, the program supports outcomes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, while encouraging environmental responsibility and respect for traditional knowledge,' she said. The students were also the first group to see a newly installed fire pit which featured a design inspired by the karkurla (silky pear). Kambalda West District High School principal Tara Schmidt said the excursion was an important addition to the school's curriculum. 'Our students were able to make a meaningful and real life connection between Two-Way Science, Language and Culture, as well as engage with our local community,' she said. Gold Fields' vice president external affairs Australia Claire Walker said: 'We are proud to play a part in connecting students with the rich history and culture of the land they live on in a fun and engaging way and we're excited to see the program expand and become available for all schools from July.'

The #1 Tea to Reduce Bloating and Inflammation, According to Health Experts

It's no secret that bloating is a less than enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, some people get bloated more than others and can struggle to find relief. While there are many different ways you can diminish your bloating, one method you may not have tried yet is drinking dandelion tea—yes, those bright yellow flowers you've probably seen blooming along the sidewalk. To learn more, we spoke with health experts to find out exactly why you get bloated, why dandelion tea is an effective antidote, and how drinking it can relieve your Katzman, functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner Tara Schmidt, RDN, lead dietitian of the Mayo Clinic DietBloating is an uncomfortable sensation of fullness and tightness in your abdomen. Oftentimes, bloating can be accompanied by abdominal distention, or an increase in the size of your stomach. It 'affects many people and can be triggered by various factors including food intolerances, eating too quickly, constipation, digestive disorders, hormonal fluctuations, and certain gas-producing foods,' says Elizabeth Katzman, functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner (FDN-P). Lucky for us, dandelion tea can offer some relief. The dandelion plant, also known as Taraxacum officinale, is found almost everywhere in the world. And the flower, root, and stems are totally edible. However, dandelion tea is usually made from the plant's leaves, but the root can be ground and applied to the warm drink as well. 'Dandelion tea is made by steeping the roots, flowers, or leaves of the dandelion plant,' says Tara Schmidt, RDN, lead dietitian at Mayo Clinic Diet. 'People may elect to drink dandelion tea while feeling bloated because there may be a diuretic effect, or an increase in the production of urine.' Dandelion tea increases urine output and helps flush excess water from the body. 'This diuretic property makes it particularly effective for reducing bloating caused by water retention due to high sodium intake,' Katzman says. Beyond its bloating-relief benefits, dandelion tea has some surprising health advantages. 'Traditionally used as a 'liver tonic' in folk medicine, dandelion root may help increase bile flow, potentially supporting liver detoxification processes and improving related skin and eye conditions,' Katzman says. 'It has a long history of use for digestive health, helping to improve appetite, soothe minor digestive ailments, and possibly relieve constipation.' Dandelion tea may also have some nutritional value, since the plant itself is a great source of Vitamin A. 'This plant is rich in antioxidants, particularly beta-carotene, which helps combat cellular damage and oxidative stress,' Katzman says. 'Additionally, dandelion contains flavonoids, phenolic acids, and various minerals that contribute to its anti-inflammatory properties and overall health benefits.' Research shows it may also help with heart health due to its high polyphenol count, another anti-inflammatory compound. You can drink dandelion tea even if you aren't bloated. But when you do feel yourself getting bloated or are preparing to eat something inflammatory, this is the ideal time to warm up a cup of dandelion tea and sip on it to relieve your symptoms. 'Some health experts even recommend drinking it before bedtime, noting that it helps you wake up feeling refreshed and less bloated,' Katzman explains. This is due to its high beta-carotene count, which protects against both cell damage and oxidative stress. The effects of dandelion tea can vary from person to person. Before drinking it regularly, discuss implementing it into your diet with your healthcare provider since certain medications like lithium, blood thinners, certain antibiotics, diuretics, and heart and blood pressure medications may interact negatively with the tea, our health experts warn. Otherwise, store-bought dandelion tea is a relatively harmless beverage that can do a whole lot of good. Read the original article on Real Simple
