Qatar working to resolve dispute through diplomatic channels, says PM

QNA Doha Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on Thursday received a phone call from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia HE Tanja Fajon. Discussion during the call dealt with the two countries' bilateral relations and ways to bolster them in addition to the latest regional developments, primarily the Israeli attack on the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran. In this context, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the continued Israeli violations and attacks, which undermine peace efforts and risk igniting a broader regional war. Furthermore, the PM underscored the grave implications of Israel's targeting of economic facilities in Iran, warning of the potentially disastrous regional and international repercussions, particularly concerning the stability of global energy supplies. He further emphasised the importance of protecting civilians from the consequences of war and stressed the need for both parties to refrain from targeting civilian infrastructure. The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the urgent need for coordinated regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and resolve disputes through diplomatic channels; affirming that the State of Qatar is actively working, in close cooperation with its partners, to revive dialogue among all parties in order to address outstanding issues and to promote regional as well as international security and peace.

EU to review trade ties with Israel amid ‘frustration' over Israeli war conduct in Gaza

CAIRO – 9 May 2025: Foreign ministers of the European Union will hold discussions later this month regarding the review of its trade agreement with Israel, prompted by growing concerns over the ongoing war in Gaza, the Associated Press reported. They will convene on May 20 to address the situation, particularly in light of Israel's blockade of humanitarian aid, which has forced aid organizations to close community soup kitchens due to depleted supplies. Kaja Kallas, the EU's foreign policy chief, noted that frustration among member states regarding their inability to intervene effectively is 'tremendous.' The EU's Association Agreement with Israel, in place since 2000, requires adherence to human rights and democratic principles. The Dutch government has indicated its plans to block the agreement until a review confirms Israel's compliance. Other EU ministers echoed similar sentiments, with Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon highlighting serious violations of international law. 'The world has clearly failed on the test of humanity,' she said. 'We have to act more seriously because we are really facing a clear violation of the international law and humanitarian law.' Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized the need for Europe to raise its voice against the situation in Gaza and affirmed that the EU 'will never accept' the displacement of the enclave's residents.

Slovenia Appreciates Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as ‘Good Basis for Definitive Solution' to Regional Dispute over Moroccan Sahara

Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon, highlighted on Friday that her country appreciates the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented by Morocco in 2007 as a good basis for a definitive solution to the regional dispute created over the Moroccan Sahara. Speaking at a press conference following a meeting in the Slovenian capital with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, Fajon also praised Morocco's serious and credible efforts to settle the Moroccan Sahara issue. The Slovenian minister thus reiterates the position on the Moroccan Sahara expressed by her country in the June 11, 2024 Joint Declaration, adopted during her official visit to Rabat. This Declaration constitutes the benchmark for the new momentum of bilateral relations and has formalized Slovenia's position on the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. The two ministers also agreed on the exclusivity of the United Nations in the political process and reaffirmed their support for the UN Security Council resolutions, including the most recent, 2756 (2024). Fajon also reiterated Slovenia's long-standing support for the UN-led process to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution based on compromise. Morocco and Slovenia reiterated their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to bring all parties to advance the political process on the basis of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. They also reaffirmed their support for MINURSO. Distributed by APO Group on behalf of Kingdom of Morocco - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates.
