Iraqis rank 5th in Turkish property purchases in May
Shafaq News/ Iraqis ranked fifth among the top foreign buyers of Turkish real estate in May 2025, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) announced on Thursday. According to a report by TURKSTAT, home sales in Turkiye rose by 17.6% in May compared to the same month in 2024, reaching 130,025 units. However, sales to foreign buyers declined by 14.2% year-on-year in May, totaling 1,771 homes. The institute reported that Russian nationals led foreign purchases with 274 homes, followed by Iranians with 133 homes. Germany ranked third, purchasing 127 homes, while Ukraine came in fourth with 113 units. Iraq followed in fifth place with 104 homes, Azerbaijan ranked sixth with 75, Kazakhstan seventh with 66, Saudi Arabia eighth with 62, China ninth with 59, and the UK tenth with 49 homes. Iraqis have consistently topped the list of foreign property buyers in Turkiye since 2015. However, they fell to second place behind the Iranians in early 2021 before dropping to third place in April 2022, following Russia's dominance in the Turkish real estate market.

Iraq tops Arab countries in Turkish imports in 2024
Shafaq News/ Iraq emerged as the top Arab importer of Turkish goods in 2024, according to official data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT). Iraqi imports from Turkiye reached $13.002B last year, covering a broad range of products, including gemstones, machinery, electrical devices, plastics, wood, vegetables, fruits, and grains. The UAE secured second place with imports worth $8.205B, while Egypt came third at $4.175B. Saudi Arabia and Morocco rounded out the list, with imports totaling $3.985B and $3.44B, respectively.

Iraq 5th among top Turkish export markets in early 2025
Shafaq News/ Iraq emerged as the fifth-largest importer of Turkish products in the first third of 2025, according to data released Saturday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT). Turkiye's exports between January and March reached $86.1B, marking a 3.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Imports also rose by 6.6%, totaling $120.7B. Germany retained its position as Turkiye's top export market, receiving $7.1B in goods. The UK followed with $5.38B, the US with $5.13B, Italy with $4.35B, and Iraq with $3.76B. Iraq remains heavily reliant on imports from neighboring countries—particularly Turkiye and Iran—with additional goods sourced from Gulf states and Jordan in smaller volumes.

Iraq ranks fourth globally in Turkish property purchases in early 2025
Shafaq News/ Iraqi citizens purchased more than 340 houses in Turkiye during the first four months of 2025, according the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT). The institute stated that Iraqis bought 344 residential units between January and April, ranking behind buyers from Russia (1,055 houses), Iran (576), and Ukraine (424). Monthly breakdowns showed Iraqis bought: • 103 houses in January • 99 in February • 72 in March • 70 in April The total marked a 2.69% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when Iraqis purchased 335 properties. Once the top foreign buyers of Turkish real estate since 2015, Iraqis dropped to second place after Iran in early 2021, third in April 2022 amid a surge in Russian demand, and now rank fourth as of early 2025.

TURKSTAT: Iraq fifth-largest export destination in Q1 2025
Shafaq News/ Iraq ranked as Turkiye's fifth-largest export destination in the first quarter of 2025, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) reported on Wednesday. The report showed that Turkish exports totaled $65.32 billion between January and March, marking a 2.5% increase, while imports rose by 4.5% to $87.81 billion compared to the same period in 2024. Germany led Turkiye's export markets with $5.33 billion in trade, followed by the United Kingdom ($4.03 billion), the United States ($3.98 billion), Italy ($3.31 billion), and Iraq at $2.92 billion. Together, these five countries accounted for 30% of Turkiye's total exports for the quarter. Iraq primarily imports most of goods, commodities, and foodstuffs from neighboring countries, mainly Turkiye and Iran, with smaller amounts coming from the Gulf states and Jordan.
