BTS Reunion 2025: Why SUGA Served As Social Worker While Others Joined Combat Duty In Military

Last Updated: With SUGA's return imminent and March 2026 firmly on the horizon, ARMY can finally look forward to seeing BTS reunited on stage once again. BTS fans around the world are preparing for SUGA's military discharge, marking the end of an era and setting the stage for BTS' highly anticipated comeback. Following Jin, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, SUGA is now the final member of BTS to complete his mandatory military service. In a post shared on WeVerse, BTS' label Big Hit Music announced, 'We are excited to bring you the news of SUGA's upcoming Social Work discharge. SUGA is close to completing his service as a Social Work Personnel and will soon be discharged." The label also urged fans to refrain from visiting the discharge site, citing safety concerns, and encouraged them to send their support through heartfelt messages instead. 'No special events are planned on the day of SUGA's discharge. Overcrowding can pose safety risks, and we sincerely request our fans not to visit the sites in person," Big Hit stated. 'Please convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts." Due to ongoing health concerns, including surgeries on his shoulder and ear, Suga was reportedly deemed 'unfit for regular combat duty" and was assigned a less physically demanding role in the South Korean military. Rather than serving on the front lines in the event of a conflict, he contributed in an alternative capacity. Following the conclusion of his Agust D world tour on August 7, 2023, Suga officially began his mandatory military service as a social service agent on September 22, 2023. This announcement comes hot on the heels of multiple reports indicating BTS is planning a full group comeback in March 2026. The Korea Herald cited a HYBE official confirming the timeline, which would mark almost four years since the group announced a hiatus to fulfill military obligations and focus on solo projects. J-Hope, who completed his service in October 2024, reflected on the transformative journey in an interview with Rolling Stone: 'The thoughts I had during those times have become an inseparable part of me… They have influenced the stories I tell, the music I aspire to create." As excitement builds, longtime BTS producer Pdogg spoke about the process behind the group's music. 'I communicate directly with the members as their tracks and albums often center around their personal stories," he told Rolling Stone. 'I spend a lot of time talking to each member and communicating about what they're thinking." However, producer Slow Rabbit, a regular collaborator, confirmed he won't be involved in the upcoming BTS album. 'I am also looking forward to BTS' comeback, but I will be focusing on my role as the main producer for TOMORROW X TOGETHER," he said. With SUGA's return imminent and March 2026 firmly on the horizon, ARMY can finally look forward to seeing BTS reunited on stage once again. First Published:

When will BTS and TXT juniors debut? Here's all we know about HYBE's upcoming self-produced boy group and members

HYBE, the powerhouse behind global acts like BTS and TXT, is all set to debut a brand-new five-member boy group this August. This marks the company's first male idol group launch in six years. Preparations in full swing According to a media report by JTBC, the yet-unnamed group is currently undergoing intensive final-stage preparations. They are aiming for an August 2025 debut. The members are handpicked and groomed under HYBE' s rigorous system. Over the next two months, the trainees will refine their performances, finalize songs, and participate in concept planning. The label is expected to unveil the group's official name and lineup soon. It has also been revealed that, unlike traditional idol rollouts, this new team will play an active role in shaping their debut. They'll be involved in everything from music production and dance choreography to visual concept development and video content creation. Members already gaining attention Although HYBE has not made a formal announcement regarding the individual members, curious fans have already started piecing together clues. Among those believed to be part of the lineup are Martin Edwards, Kim Jihoon, Song Hajun, James, and Lee Sejin. These trainees have garnered attention through alleged contributions to their seniors' music production and online leaks. While their inclusion has not been confirmed, speculation is growing on social media. Fan accounts are circulating photos, practice clips, and pre-debut interactions. First boy group since TXT This debut holds particular significance as it marks HYBE's first boy group launch since the debut of TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) in March 2019. Given the global success of both BTS and TXT, expectations are sky-high for what HYBE's newest project will bring to the evolving K-pop scene. Online buzz and expectations The anticipation surrounding HYBE's upcoming boy group is already spreading across K-pop communities. Some fans are speculating about the teaser rollout strategy and eagerly waiting for an official announcement. Others are praising the label for reportedly giving the rookies a chance to shape their own musical identity. With only a few months left until their official launch, excitement continues to build. As HYBE readies its next act, all eyes are on what could become the next significant chapter in K-pop's fifth generation of idols.

SEVENTEEN Achieves Seventh No. 1 on Top Album Sales Chart With ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY'

SEVENTEEN achieves its seventh No. 1 on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart as the group's latest release, SEVENTEEN 5th Album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' debuts atop the list dated June 14. The set sold 46,000 copies in the United States in the week ending June 5, according to Luminate. SEVENTEEN scored its first No. 1 on Top Album Sales in 2021. In turn, with seven No. 1s in the 2020s, the act ties TOMORROW X TOGETHER for the most No. 1s among groups, and the second-most among all acts in the 2020s. Only Taylor Swift, with nine No. 1s on Top Album Sales in the 2020s, has more this decade. Billboard's Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart's history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album (TEA) units and streaming equivalent album (SEA) units. Miley Cyrus' Something Beautiful debuts at No. 2 on Top Album Sales with 27,000 copies sold, marking her 15th top 10 (inclusive of titles credited to her Disney Channel character Hannah Montana). Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem falls to No. 3 (16,000; down 45%) after two weeks atop the list. Two Swift albums return to the top 10 after an outpouring of fan support following the news that Swift had acquired her Big Machine Records-era music catalog. Her 2017 album reputation reenters at No. 4 (15,000; up 1,183%) and her self-titled 2006 self-titled debut reenters at No. 6 (8,000; up 955%). Kendrick Lamar's chart-topping To Pimp a Butterfly reenters at No. 5 on Top Album Sales (11,000; up 639%) after a 10th anniversary reissue on multiple vinyl variants, as well as a cassette tape. Another 10th anniversary reissue, this time from Sufjan Stevens, also impacts the chart, as his Carrie & Lowell reenters at No. 7 (8,000; up 2,656%). (For both Lamar and Stevens, all versions of their respective albums, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes.) Garbage's Let All That We Imagine Be the Light debuts at No. 8 with just over 7,000 sold, securing the band its fourth top 10-charting set. Lamar's former No. 1 GNX falls 5-9 (a little more than 7,000; down 15%) and Aesop Rock nabs his first top 10-charting effort with his new release Black Hole Superette debuting at No. 10 (7,000). SEVENTEEN Leads K-Pop's Highest Midyear Boxscore Total

On Wednesday (May 28), Billboard revealed its midyear Boxscore charts, celebrating the top-grossing and best-selling artists, venues, and concert promoters around the world between Oct. 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025. Amid the pop, rock, R&B and Latin acts that blanket the Top Tours ranking, an unprecedented string of K-pop artists are in the mix, with five such acts among the all-genre top 50. More from Billboard Lil Wayne Announces Tha Carter VI Tour Ahead of Album's Arrival Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR Announce '$ome $pecial $hows 4 U.K.' Tour Dates Megyn Kelly Slams Beyoncé for 'Playing Victim' by Using Footage of Her in Cowboy Carter Tour Visuals SEVENTEEN leads the pack, as it did for K-pop on midyear recaps for 2024 and 2023. But after grossing $30 million on the 2023 list, and $67.5 million for 2024, the group is No. 3 on the overall tally with $120.9 million and 842,000 tickets sold, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. The group is sandwiched between Shakira at No. 2 ($130 million) and Eagles at No. 4 ($112.2 million). SEVENTEEN is the highest-ranking Korean act ever on the all-genre midyear list, surpassing BTS' No. 4 rank in 2022. BTS did manage a matching No. 3 rank on 2019's year-end tally, but hadn't played enough shows in the first half of that chart year to appear on the midyear chart. Not only has K-pop's top artist essentially doubled its midyear gross for the second consecutive year, but the bench is deepening. This year's all-genre top 50 includes five K-pop acts, up from three in 2023 and 2024, and two in 2022. The threshold for K-pop's top five is $25.1 million at the midyear point – this time last year, it was $3.1 million. After SEVENTEEN, ATEEZ and J-Hope are next at Nos. 2-3 on Top Tours by Genre (K-pop), each with earnings of more than $28 million. The latter is the first K-pop soloist to make the midyear overall Top Tours chart, though he previously was included with his fellow BTS bandmates. ENHYPEN and TOMORROW X TOGETHER round out the list, also within a couple percentage points of one another above the $25 million mark. These four groups and one soloist made their millions while proving the international strength of Korean artists. During the six-month tracking period, they toured arenas and stadiums throughout Asia (SEVENTEEN, J-Hope, ENHYPEN and TOMORROW X TOGETHER), Europe (ATEEZ and TOMORROW X TOGETHER), Mexico (J-Hope) and the U.S. (SEVENTEEN and J-Hope). Altogether, K-pop acts on the midyear Top Tours chart brought in a collective $228 million and sold 1.6 million tickets from 78 shows. That marks a 79% increase over the genre's 2024 showing, which itself was a 93% jump from 2023. In just two years, K-pop has more than tripled its presence on the midyear chart.
