ALLDAY PROJECT faces backlash ahead of debut: Annie Moon's 'intimate' clip to Tarzzan's cultural appropriation creates drama

THEBLACKLABEL's first co-ed K-pop group, ALLDAY PROJECT, is slated to debut on June 23 with members Annie Moon, Tarzzan, Bailey, Woochan, and Youngseo. While the group's unveiling sparked anticipation, it didn't take long for controversy to overshadow the excitement. Even before their official debut, ALLDAY PROJECT has become a trending topic—praised for its unique concept, but also criticized due to emerging scandals involving its members. Tarzzan's cultural appropriation claims Tarzzan was the first member to come under fire ahead of the group's debut for sporting braided hairstyles in teaser images—something many fans have criticized as cultural appropriation. The controversy escalated when it was revealed that he follows rapper Tory Lanez, a figure mired in legal and public scrutiny, on Instagram. Soon after, hashtags like #TARZZAN_OUT began trending on social media platforms. Now, with the release of their debut track FAMOUS, backlash against Tarzzan has only intensified, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where criticism continues to grow. Many stated that just a few weeks back the girl group Kiss of Life faced major backlash for cultural appropriation. One said, "KIOF got death threats and apologized four times, while this dude has people licking his toes. Goes to show what a disadvantage it is to be a woman in society." kiof got death threats and apologised 4 times while this dude has people licking his toes, goes to show what a disadvantage being a woman is in society Another wrote, "You guys were just crucifying Kiss of Life not even three months ago, but all a 'niggaboo' has to do is be shirtless and a mediocre rapper, and suddenly K-pop stans can't stand on business." you niggas we're just crucifying kiss of life not even three months ago. but all a niggaboo has to do his be shirtless and a mediocre rapper and suddenly kpop stans can't stand on business Annie Moon's 'intimate' clip Born into one of South Korea's most powerful business dynasties, Annie Moon has faced intense scrutiny even before debuting. Labeled a "chaebol idol," she's at the center of growing concerns about privilege in the K-pop industry—where some argue that status and wealth may be eclipsing talent and hard work. While this debate was on, a fresh wave of controversy followed when netizens uncovered photos from her old social media accounts. In a viral post on X, users criticized Annie's attitude, pointing out apparent contradictions between her claims of long-term dedication to music and images showing her in intimate settings. One photo showed her wrapped in a man's arms, another captured a kiss on the cheek. Now, a circulating video clip showed a man lifting her and seemingly kissing her neck as he carries her off is making the rounds. The men remain unidentified, but the content has drawn sharp commentary online. 편하게 틱톡하면서 지냇자너 About ALLDAY PROJECT The group brings together members from diverse entertainment backgrounds. ALLDAY's Youngseo shares worries of being 'too old' for K-pop debut after ILLIT exit, fans blame HYBE

Youngseo, a former HYBE trainee, is a part of THE BLACK LABEL's ALLDAY PROJECT and is poised to debut in their upcoming co-ed group. She previously trained extensively under HYBE's subsidiaries and was part of ILLIT's final line-up, but left before debut. In a recent revelation, Youngseo shared her struggles following HYBE exit and before being selected by THE BLACK LABEL. Yeongseo addressed rumors of debuting in THE BLACK LABEL's MEOVV and the new YGE girl group After Yeongseo's sudden ILLIT exit, she was speculated to be part of YG Entertainment and its subsidiary THE BLACK LABEL on numerous occasions. In a recent introductory video of the five members of ALLDAY PROJECT, shared by the group's YouTube channel, Yeongseo addressed the issue. She said, "there were rumors like 'I think Yeongseo's gonna show up here' every time there's news of a new team debuting." She further mentioned having to maintain a "low profile" to keep her participation in ALLDAY PROJECT under wraps. Yeongseo opened up on struggles after parting ways with HYBE Yeongseo had faced a lot of challenges after her ILLIT exit and termination of contract with the agency, BELIFT LAB. Particularly one of her statements about being worried that she was 'too old to be an idol", broke fans hearts. Without taking names, she stated that after training under a certain company for a long time, the now 19-year-old thought that her age would be a hindrance to her dreams of being a K-pop artist. It sparked renewed discussions about the industry's persistent issue, where minors are deemed ready for debut, but artists in their 30s are often seen as over the hill. Youngseo also mentioned that she wrote applications and personally sent entertainment companies clips of her dancing and singing, and after auditions finally got picked by THE BLACK LABEL. Fans blamed BELIFT LAB of being responsible for making her leave ILLIT and leading her to go through the ordeal. THEBLACKLABEL's co-ed group ALLDAY PROJECT makes waves online; yet faces controversy as #TARZZAN_OUT trends

After days of speculation and rumours, THEBLACKLABEL officially introduced the members of its much-anticipated co-ed group, ALLDAY PROJECT, on June 9, ahead of their debut scheduled for June 23 at 6 PM KST. The five-member group consists of Annie, Tarzzan, Bailey, Woochan, and Youngseo. The label described the project as "a special collaboration of five unparalleled artists.' According to THEBLACKLABEL, the group aims to "push the boundaries of creative expression, challenge conventional norms, and deliver something entirely new and unprecedented." Meet the members of ALLDAY PROJECT Each member brings a distinct background and artistic identity to the group: Woochan was previously known as a member of HYBE's pre-debut team Trainee A. Youngseo was a finalist on the survival show R U Next? and was originally part of the final lineup for ILLIT before departing the group ahead of their debut. Annie, also known as Moon Seo-yoon, is the eldest daughter of Shinsegae President Chung Yoo-kyung. Her inclusion marks the debut of what many are calling K-pop's first 'chaebol idol,' adding even more buzz around the group. ALLDAY PROJECT faces controversy ahead of debut Just hours after the members were revealed, controversy began to brew—centered around member Tarzzan. Real name Lee Chae-won, Tarzzan has been active in the entertainment and fashion scene, having modeled for high-profile brands like Samsung, McDonald's, Calvin Klein, Uniqlo, Hyundai Motor Company, and more. Why is #TARZZAN_OUT trending? The controversy surrounding Tarzzan stems largely from his hairstyle choices. Fans quickly pointed out that he frequently wears braids, with his Instagram featuring multiple photos of him sporting the look. In fact, even in the group's official teaser image, Tarzzan appears wearing braids. This has sparked criticism from many Black K-pop fans, who took to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit to express their concerns about what they see as cultural appropriation. Some fans have gone as far as to demand that Tarzzan be removed from the group before debut. One Reddit post read, "Is the male idol wearing braids?? I saw people already deciding not to bother checking out the group." Another user replied, "I believe his name is 'Tarzan'," while someone else added sarcastically, "He clearly passed the company's criteria." The criticism arrives amid heightened scrutiny of cultural sensitivity in K-pop, especially as past incidents involving idols resurface. BLACKPINK—under YG Entertainment, like THEBLACKLABEL—has previously faced backlash for racially insensitive behavior, including clips where members were seen using the N-word. For context, THEBLACKLABEL is an affiliate of YG Entertainment, though it operates semi-independently. Meanwhile, the hashtag #TARZZAN_OUT continued to trend on X. Adding further fuel to the fire, fans discovered that Tarzzan follows Tory Lanez on Instagram. The Canadian rapper, while known for his music, has been involved in a controversial legal case involving Megan Thee Stallion, which further intensified the backlash against the idol. One said, "someone get this wannabe ni**a out now #TARZZAN_OUT" someone get this wannabe nigga out now #TARZZAN_OUT Another wrote, "He's so disgusting he shouldn't be allowed near the other 4 especially the girls." he's so disgusting he shouldn't be allowed near the other 4 especially the girls#TARZZAN_OUT One added, "Very happy for Youngseo but like seriously what is going on with this dude like do they have no cultural sensitivity advisors at all at tbl #TARZZAN_OUT" Very happy for Youngseo but like seriously what is going on with this dude like do they have no cultural sensitivity advisors at all at tbl #TARZZAN_OUT More about ALLDAY PROJECT This marks the first major co-ed K-pop group to debut since KARD burst onto the scene back in 2017. ALLDAY PROJECT is set to make their official debut on June 23 with the release of their first single, titled "FAMOUS." The group also becomes THEBLACKLABEL's second-ever idol group, following the debut of the fourth-generation girl group MEOVV. Tarzzan Of THEBLACKLABEL's New Co-Ed Group Accused Of Cultural Appropriation

When someone romanticises aspects of a particular race, it can sometimes lead to them adopting that race's appearance. While such behaviour often goes unnoticed, it tends to spark controversy, especially when public figures or idols are involved, raising debates around cultural appropriation. On 8th June (Sunday), South Korean entertainment agency THEBLACKLABEL (더블랙레이블) introduced their new co-ed group, 'ALLDAY Project.' However, one member, Tarzzan (타잔), quickly drew attention from netizens due to his Instagram posts, where he is frequently seen wearing braids and adopting aesthetics commonly associated with Black culture. The 'ALLDAY Project' consists of five members: Annie (앤니), Tarzzan (타잔), Bailey (베일리), Woochan (우찬), and Youngseo (영서). Some of the members already have notable recognition. Bailey, for instance, won the Arena Awards in 2019; Annie is known as the granddaughter of the chairman of the Samsung Group; Woochan was originally set to debut with the now-cancelled group Trainee A, and Youngseo was originally set to debut as a member of ILLIT (아일릿). Lee Chae-won (이채원), known by his stage name Tarzzan, began his career as a model, debuting at the 2022 Seoul Fashion Week. He previously worked under YG Entertainment's subsidiary YGKPLUS. He made his first appearance in the music industry through NJZ's (엔제이지) 'Supernatural' music video. Following the news of his debut, Tarzzan sparked debate with his appearance and stage name. Netizens are questioning why the soon-to-debut idol is allowed to maintain his cornrow hairstyle, arguing that it's cultural appropriation. Many also find his 'Tarzzan' stage name offensive, lamenting that it's a mockery towards African-Americans. What was meant to be a promising debut is now facing early backlash. Criticism and controversy have quickly taken over the conversation, and fans fear this might overshadow their official debut on 23rd June (Monday). Some also worry it could hurt the group's future in the long run. What are your thoughts on this?
