Revisiting the artistic revolution taking place in a small town in North Carolina

We noticed back in March that visionary artist and entrepreneur, Tyler 'Ty Bru' Brueilly was in the midst of carrying the entire small town on his back in attempts to usher the community into a more contemporary era of art and entertainment, in particular with his Mightier Than The Sword Awards at Sunset Film Festival, which is the city's very first Film Festival of any February and fresh off his second annual aforementioned film festival, we were able to speak with him at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood following his premiere of 'Shucks' and he didn't show any hesitation with the love and passion he has for, Asheboro, North Carolina. 'I was born there, and I've spent over thirty years there and I've always been frustrated with the lack of options in our scene since a kid and it's not really had any breakthrough in that matter. I'm not saying it needs to be Hollywood by any means, but it's in desperate need to have constant and consistent options for art and entertainment lovers.' Brueilly states. Brueilly has really been focusing on using the 20 year milestone of founding Mightier Than The Sword Records as a catalyst to provide a four day festival in May at the historic Sunset Theatre as well as monthly events and meetings within likeminded individuals in the area in hopes to cultivate this 'artistic revolution' he has been spearheading. 'In 2025, we've been holding monthly 'First Friday Fashion & Photography' and 'Third Thursday Thinktanks' and in May, we added 'Mighty Mondays' each focusing on our community by aligning the many facets of art and entertainment I have extensive experiences in, with the deep hope that it inspires others to stay right here in Asheboro and fight for places, spaces and stages to showcase their creations, that's a bar right there though.' Keanu Reeves, Ana de Armas stun at ‘Ballerina' special screening

'Ballerina', a spin-off of the popular 'John Wick' movies starring Ana de Armas, is one of the most highly anticipated movies in a busy 2025 schedule for moviegoers. Coming releases also include a live-action remake of DreamWorks Animation's 'How to Train Your Dragon', and another installment in the long-running science fiction series, 'Jurassic World Rebirth.' 'From now up until mid-August, there is at least one new release coming out every weekend with the potential of making $100 million at the domestic box office,' said Daniel Loria, senior vice president of The BoxOffice Company, which provides online ticketing services for movie theaters. Movie ticket sales in the US and Canada are up 21 percent from a year ago, when the 2023 Hollywood strikes disrupted film production and truncated movie slates, according to Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian. Still, the box office is off nearly 29 percent from 2019, before the global pandemic shuttered movie theaters and fueled the growth of video streaming. – Reuters

Marathi short film ‘Changing Room' to feature at iconic theatre in LA fest

Pune: Marathi short film by Ruchir Kulkarni 'Changing Room' has been officially selected for the 28th edition of independent festival Dances With Films: LA (DWF:LA) and will be featured at Hollywood's iconic TCL Chinese Theatre, which hosted the Oscars in the 1940s The festival runs from June 19 to 29 and aims to bring forth fresh and original storytelling from across the world. Each year, it draws thousands of global submissions, making selection of 'Changing Room' a major milestone for Marathi-language cinema and young Indian filmmakers abroad. Kulkarni was born and raised in Pune. He completed his engineering degree from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology in 2020. "My course was slightly delayed due to the pandemic. I belong to what is often referred to as the Covid batch — those of us who graduated in a world on pause. However, even before I got my degree, I knew I wanted to change course and commit myself to filmmaking. It was a decision I discussed at length with my parents. I was fortunate that they understood and wholeheartedly supported me," he said. The movie buff took courses in video editing and film orientation from FTII before moving to the US two years ago to pursue an MFA in filmmaking from New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'Changing Room' is a personal narrative, he said. "It is the most personal story I've ever told. It explores themes of body image and self-worth through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy. I felt a certain vulnerability for the first time in my journey, as though I were revealing a piece of myself to the world. I knew this story had to be told with emotional honesty and cultural authenticity. So I flew back from Los Angeles to Pune to shoot the film in the environment where I was born and raised," said Kulkarni. The film features students of Jnana Prabodhini Prashala playing short, but meaningful roles. "Their enthusiastic participation, together with the support of their teachers and parents, made a real difference to the production. We shot inside an actual, cramped changing room, with crew members squeezed alongside our actors in a space barely large enough to move in. Somehow, we pulled through. Experts from the fraternity have said that making a film is nothing short of a miracle, and I understand the truth in that now," said Kulkarni. He said living in Los Angeles broadened his understanding of cinema. "Here, films are celebrated for their artistry, regardless of language, origin or scale. I've sat in theatres alongside audiences of all backgrounds, watching deeply rooted Indian films like 'Cactus Pears', a Sundance-winning Marathi film and 'All We Imagine As Light' — the Cannes Grand Prix winner. In those rooms, stories in Marathi and Malayalam resonated with people from across the world. It reaffirmed what I've always believed, that cinema is a universal language," said Kulkarni.

Danny DeVito Recalls Crushing on Co-star Michelle Pfeiffer During Batman Returns: 'She Was a Goddess'

Danny DeVito recently shared how he felt working alongside Michelle Pfeiffer on Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns. In an interview for Variety's Actors on Actors series, DeVito described Pfeiffer as a 'goddess' and admitted, 'I lusted after her.' Playing the Penguin to Pfeiffer's Catwoman, he confessed that her presence made him self-conscious. 'If I knew she was going to be in a scene that day…I got all flushed. Put extra makeup on, 'Give me another pound of makeup.' It was very difficult,' DeVito recalled. DeVito clarified that it was his character, Oswald Cobblepot, not him personally, who was 'lustful.' He laughed when co-star Colin Farrell asked if Pfeiffer ever called security on him. DeVito replied, 'I kind of feel like she liked it. She liked Oswald.' His remark suggests that Pfeiffer appreciated the energy he brought as a Penguin. Despite playing a despicable character, DeVito made it clear he never carried that role home. Asked whether he ever took the character home, Danny DeVito firmly replied that he went home to Rhea Perlman and the kids. DeVito and Perlman have been married since 1982 and share three children: Lucy, Gracie, and Jack. Though the couple separated in 2017, they remain married. DeVito shared that regardless of the brutal or despicable roles he plays, he always sheds that persona once he leaves the set. Meanwhile, Michelle Pfeiffer continues to impress fans with stunning, makeup-free selfies that showcase her ageless looks. In April, she was honored with a hand and footprints ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, appearing in a chic black suit and satin blouse. Pfeiffer has been married to TV writer and producer David E. Kelley since 1993. The couple shares two children: Claudia, 32, and John, 30. DeVito and Farrell also discussed their views on alcohol. Farrell, sober since 2005, influenced DeVito to cut back. DeVito admitted he still enjoys just a sip of wine and likes gin martinis with cigars. However, when he's on the health kick, he avoids alcohol altogether. Both actors agreed they feel much better without heavy drinking.
