2025 AMA People's Choice Winners DEVILSKIN Release New Track 'Swelter'
Undoubtedly New Zealand's hottest rock ticket at the moment, Devilskin present their second single and first video from the forthcoming album RE-EVOLUTION. Fresh from taking out the coveted People's Choice Award in the recent Aotearoa Music Awards, climbing all over rock radio with the bold, upbeat single 'Half-Life of Dreams', AND currently immersed in a 12-date NZ tour, Devilskin release the incendiary track 'Swelter', which see's vocalist Jennie Skulander towering over one of the sickest riffs you'll ever hear. As Skulander monster-hulks her way between flashes of calm and vicious sonic intrusions, this song, with its razor riffage and Jennie's devastating delivery, is immediately compelling and contagious. This is bold and right in your face as Jennie belts out the first lyric 'Everything, anything you want to be, you can be, you just need the right philosophy!' Addressing the subject of personal responsibility and achieving your potential, lyricist Paul Martin comments 'I had this odd neighbour for a while. His life was junk food, gaming, living with mum, and generally being inert; so I developed this story for him. When Nic came up with the music, with its aggression, quirks, and schizophonics, it just fell together perfectly.' And then there's the video, directed by multi-award winning director Shae Sterling. A visual feast, the clip is an action packed 'hard ride' through some iconic Kiwi glory. Not for the first time, Devilskin show they aren't too-cool-for-school by injecting some hearty homegrown humour into the visuals and obviously having fun in the process. Drummer Nic Martin shares his enthusiasm: "We're absolutely thrilled to share this wild, wacky video with the world. It was a total pleasure to have our friend and long-time collaborator Shae direct the chaos with his signature style. Reminiscent of westie-glam and 80's kiwi bogan, but with a taste of modern metalcore twisted in, the replay-value on this video is sky-high."

Epsom tilt ‘unlikely' for Purview with Dermot Weld targeting Irish Derby instead
Dermot Weld is set to target next month's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby with Purview and described as 'unlikely' any tilt at Epsom next week with his promising colt. Winner of a Dundalk maiden on his debut in November, Purview reappeared in Leopardstown's Derby Trial over a fortnight ago and ran a very promising second to Delacroix. The colt now heads betting for Saturday week's Derby but Weld is lukewarm on the idea of taking Delacroix on again at Epsom. 'He's still a very big and immature horse and still wants more time, so I would say he is unlikely to go to Epsom. We still have races like the Irish Derby in mind,' Weld said on Tuesday. READ MORE The renowned Curragh trainer also reported that his good filly Swelter will get a break after finishing lame in Sunday's Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas behind Lake Victoria. Swelter lost her unbeaten record when ninth in the weekend classic. 'Unfortunately she was lame post-race. It's nothing serious. She just needs a bit of time off and she'll be back in the autumn,' said Weld. Derby prospects were to the fore on Tuesday morning when the John & Thady Gosden team worked their 'Blue Riband' hopefuls Damysus and Nightwalker at the unique Epsom course. The pair were last seen finishing runner-up and fifth in the Dante at York and Thady Gosden was pleased to give both a 'sighter' of their upcoming challenge. 'It's a very unique track which is impossible to emulate anywhere and just for them to get a feel for it and perhaps get them a few strides quicker in the race can only be a positive thing. 'They both handled it very well. They're very intelligent horses, the pair of them, really taking it in. You could see Damysus pricking his ears coming to the line,' he said. 'They're both talented colts, both have a good turn of foot and both travel well in their races. Also, we know it's a big occasion and it's very easy for it to get to them a little bit but just on the evidence here this morning they seem to handle everything very well,' Gosden added. Wednesday's domestic action is over jumps at Wexford but the smart flat horse Sunchart features in a conditions hurdle. Although not as effective over flights, Andy Slattery's stalwart did record his only win over hurdles at Wexford and any rain will help his chances.

Hayes hoping Swelter can burn off Classic rivals at the weekend
Chris Hayes is looking forward to riding the unbeaten Swelter for Dermot Weld and Juddmonte in Sunday's Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh. The Kingman filly won her only started at two over a mile at Leopardstown and then showed plenty of speed when dropping down to seven furlongs to hold off Exactly in a Group Three on her return, with that rival subsequently beaten just over a length in the French Guineas. 'We're still a few days away and I'll have a sit on her in the week, we'll obviously be conscious of the weather,' said Hayes. 'The form of her trial has worked out well, she's an exciting filly. 'She had one start last year and was impressive in that. It was nice to see her drop back a furlong and quicken up in the manner she did off a fast pace, in a race where the form has really worked out with the third, fourth and fifth all running well since. 'I'm very much looking forward to it.' There is a strong challenge from the UK to overcome, with Ollie Sangster leaving in both Flight and Simmering, second and third to Desert Flower in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. Archie Watson could also run Duty First, so impressive in the Fred Darling but a disappointment in the Classic. Donnacha O'Brien has supplemented his unbeaten filly Atsila while his father Aidan still has four of the 14 in contention including Lake Victoria, sixth on her seasonal return at Newmarket after a stellar juvenile campaign. Royal Ascot winner Bedtime Story, Exactly and January could also run. Paddy Twomey's City of Memphis, winner of her only start, is another supplementary entry while Adrian Murray has two possibles in California Dreamer and Jaliyah.
