Rs 24cr OK'd for devpt of tourist facilities at Sonepur fair: Dy CM
Patna: The state govt has approved Rs 24.28 crore for the development and modernisation of tourist facilities at Sonepur fair site in Saran district, deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said on Monday. He said the plan for Sonepur fair development has been approved under the sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0. "This will promote local employment and economic activities in rural areas," he said, adding that the govt is to develop Sonepur fair as a digital and eco-sensitive site for global tourism. Choudhary said the scheme includes entrance gate, market construction, road widening, road connectivity to the ghat, and parking area, and shuttle service. "Work will also be done on green initiatives like plastic-free fair area, waste management, solar energy and environmental awareness campaign. Under the digital initiative, services like fair mobile app, cashless payment, virtual darshan and smart parking will be created," he said. The monthlong fair, once known worldwide for sale and purchase of elephants, cows, horses, birds and oxen, is held every year on Kartik Purnima (Nov 5 this year) at the confluence of Ganga-Gandak rivers.

Buddhist meditation & experience centre to come up at Bodh Gaya
Patna: A Buddhist meditation and experience centre, under the Centre's Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0, would be constructed at the cost of Rs 165.44 crore in Bodh Gaya . The centre, approved and funded by the ministry of tourism, will provide a unique platform for tourists to experience the rich heritage and philosophy of Buddhism. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) will be the nodal agency for the execution of this project. Special secretary-cum-tourism director Udayan Mishra said, "In compliance with the announcement made in the Union Budget 2024-25 for the comprehensive development of Gaya and Bodh Gaya, a detailed project report was sought for the Buddhist meditation and experience centre. After submission of the report to the ministry, a nod was given for the development of the centre." On April 2, 2025, technical approval for the project was received from the chief engineer, BSTDC. Subsequently, administrative approval was granted on May 22. Mishra said Bodh Gaya is an important tourist destination, which attracts a large number of tourists. To further enhance the facilities at the place, a Buddhist meditation and experience centre would be constructed, which will increase the footfall of tourists and also generate revenue for the govt. Additionally, it will create employment and business opportunities for local people. "Approval for the construction of the centre was granted by the cabinet on May 16. The BSTDC is the executing agency for this important project," the special secretary added.
