Hunger Games fans are all saying the same thing after movie franchise cast Glenn Close

Hunger Games fans have all drawn the same conclusion after learning about the casting for the upcoming installment. On Monday, the franchise announced that actress Glenn Close, 78, would be playing Drusilla Sickle - District 12's escort - in the prequel titled Sunrise on the Reaping. The fifth novel in Suzanne Collins' series, of the same name, was released to eager fans on March 18, 2025. Sunrise on the Reaping will be a prequel to the original trilogy, taking place 40 years after the events of the most recent tale, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. But in light of the new addition to the cast, many fans have been left wondering the same thing... with such a huge casting budget, what will the rest of the film look like? People took to X (formerly Twitter) in their droves to express their concerns and marvel at the seemingly massive budget. 'Half of the budget is for the cast lmao,' someone wrote. 'The budget is unlimited,' another fan joked. Sunrise on the Reaping will be a prequel to the original trilogy, taking place 40 years after the events of the most recent tale, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 'Ninety-nine percent of the Sunrise on the Reaping budget going towards the cast,' someone else shared. 'This move about to be expensive as hell because how the F**K you get GLENN CLOSE,' another user said. 'Leave some budget for the special effects damn,' a fan begged. 'The tributes are gonna be dying from natural causes at this point because there's no way they are affording all this LMFAOOOOO,' a person observed. 'The budget for the casting of this movie alone is $1B,' a user penned. 'GURL, HOW BIG IS YOUR BUDGET?' someone asked. 'Lionsgate, never close your purse again please!' a person pleaded. Another wrote: 'OHHHHHH THE BUDGET...' Collins said in a statement: 'With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume's idea of implicit submission and, in his words, "the easiness with which the many are governed by the few." People took to X (formerly Twitter) in their droves to express their concerns and marvel at the seemingly massive budget 'The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question "Real or not real?" seems more pressing to me every day.' Per The Hollywood Reporter, Sunrise on the Reaping returns to the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, and is timed for the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The story tells the tale of how Katniss Everdeen's beloved mentor Haymitch Abernathy survived the Hunger Games. 'Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances,' the official synopsis reads. 'All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves. When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. 'He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive odds-maker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. 'As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail. But there's something in him that wants to fight... and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.' Close isn't the only A-list name in the cast, others include: Billy Porter as Magno Stift, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, and Ralph Fiennes as Coriolanus Snow, per USA Today.

Glenn Close and Billy Porter to star in The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping

The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping is to star Glenn Close and Billy Porter when it is released next year. Due for release in November 2026, the sixth film in the fantasy franchise will star Close, 78, as escort Drusilla Sickle, and Porter, 55, as stylist Magno Stift – who is also her onscreen husband. Advertisement It comes after Conclave star Ralph Fiennes was cast as villain President Coriolanus Snow in the prequel, which will be an adaption of the fifth book in the series written by Suzanne Collins. The book was published in March 2025 and is a prequel to the original trilogy, which was adapted into the films starring US actress Jennifer Lawrence. Close is best known for her appearances in Fatal Attraction (1988), Dangerous Liaisons (1989), and 101 Dalmatians (1996), where she played Cruella De Vil, while Porter is best known for his performances on Broadway in shows such as Kinky Boots. The new film follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, one of the few Hunger Games winners from the same district as the original trilogy's protagonist Katniss Everdeen, played by Lawrence. Advertisement Played by Zombieland actor Woody Harrelson, Haymitch is first introduced to readers in the original trilogy as the alcoholic mentor to tributes Katniss and Peeta Mellark, played by Bridge To Terabithia's Josh Hutcherson, before they are sent off to fight to the death in a televised arena. The prequel follows Haymitch as he is drawn to fight in the 50th Hunger Games, a violent entertainment set up to maintain control in the fictional country of Panem, and faces double the amount of tributes, two boys and two girls, who are selected from each district. The movie will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who also directed the Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part I, and Mockingjay Part II. The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping will be released in cinemas on November 20th, 2026. Advertisement

These garments represent a process that is at the very core of my craft." According to a news release from 2021, Close said she saved and preserved the costumes because of her respect for the collaboration between actors and designers.
