‘Is this the end of my career?': Jos Buttler's honest confession after Vaibhav Suryavanshi's historic IPL hundred
"A 35-ball hundred from a 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) made everyone stand up from their seats at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur on the night of April 28. Not only the Rajasthan Royals created history but also etched his name into record books only to be remembered for lifetime. But what was going on Gujarat Titans' Jos Buttler's mind, who was just standing a yard behind, donning the big gloves? Like all of his Gujarat Titans teammates, Buttler too had no clue about what was happening as Suryavanshi dispatched almost every ball out of the park. 'Its inspiring and deflating at the same time,' Buttler told former England teammate Stuart Broad in a podcast. 'So this guy is 20 years younger than me and he's just smashing us l around the park,' added the Englishman, who used to don the Rajasthan Royals jersey in IPL 2024. Such destructive was Suryavanshi that the teenager struck India international Ishant Sharma for three big sixes an over which yeilded a massive 28 runs. He completed his century with a six off Rashid Khan. 'Our bowling attack consists of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Rashid Khan…scale of the sixes, they were not just going over but they were big sixes. 35-ball hundred, it was outrageous. I think after he had hit five or six sixes, he is not scared of us. I was thinking, is this amazing or is this the end of my career?' added Buttler with a cheeky smile. Rewarded for his impressive show in the IPL, Suryavanshi earned a place in the Indian U-19 team for the multi-format tour of England. Scheduled from June 24 to July 23, the tour comprises a 50-over warm-up match, followed by a five-match Youth One-Day series and two Multi-Day matches against England U19. India U-19 updated squad against England: Ayush Mhatre (Captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra, Maulyarajsinh Chavda, Rahul Kumar, Abhigyan Kundu (Vice-Captain & WK), Harvansh Singh (WK), R. S. Ambrish, Kanishk Chouhan, Henil Patel, Yudhajit Guha, Pranav Raghavendra, Mohammed Enaan, Anmoljeet Singh, D. Deepesh, Naman Pushpak

"Best Player I've Ever Seen": IPL Legend Jos Buttler Left In Complete Awe Of 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Vaibhav Suryavanshi burst onto the scene in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season at the age of 14, slamming the fastest century by an Indian in the history of the tournament. Suryavanshi amassed 252 runs in just seven innings, at a ridiculous strike rate of 206. Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Suryavanshi smashed a 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans (GT) in only his third match. England star Jos Buttler - who was GT's wicket-keeper on that day - gave his thoughts on Suryavanshi, comparing him to legends like Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. "The innings against us, 35-ball hundred, was just outrageous. Our (GT) bowling consists of Mohammed Siraj, brilliant international bowler, Prasidh Krishna, international bowler, Rashid Khan, best T20 bowler there is. And he (Suryavanshi) hit big sixes," Buttler said, speaking on the 'For The Love Of Cricket' podcast alongside Stuart Broad. "He played an innings against Chennai Super Kings a couple of matches later, I was watching on TV. CSK have seasoned pros like R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, but Suryavanshi went bang! And then he knocked one out to cover, like 'I'm so in control, I'll just take one now'. At that moment, I thought this guy is the best player I've ever seen. I was so blown away," Buttler said. Suryavanshi wowed one and all with his incredible IPL 2025 campaign. The left-hander smashed a six on the very first ball that he faced, clearing Shardul Thakur for a six over wide long-off. Suryavanshi's game developed as the tournament went on, and he ended up slamming another half-century before the season concluded. Buttler, who has emerged as a modern-day IPL great himself, spoke about Suryavanshi's fearlessness and what he thought of his first-ball six. "He actually hit his first ball for six in the IPL. He sort of gave himself a bit of room and smacked it over wide long off for a six. He had that fearlessness. There are so many brilliant players, they almost want to make a statement, as in 'look at me'," Buttler said. "We have to try and ask him how long before that happened did you think 'I'm going to try and hit my first ball for six'. Because it was a premeditated shot. Hhe looked for it," Buttler stated. "People have seen him with this amazing bat swing. Bit like, it's a huge statement, Yuvraj Singh or Brian Lara," Buttler added. Following the IPL, Suryavanshi is set to tour England as part of the India Under-19 squad, which will be led by 17-year-old Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sensation Ayush Mhatre. The two nations will face off in a five-match Youth One-Day series, followed by two Multi-Day Test matches. How Suryavanshi fares in England could provide an interesting subplot to the India-England Test series, starting from June 20.

Buttler Was Stunned By Suryavanshi: 'This Guy's The Best Player I Have Ever Seen'
Last Updated: Jos Buttler recalls thinking that Vaibhav Suryavanshi was 'the best player I have ever seen' while watching him bat against CSK on TV. Former England captain Jos Buttler was lavish in his praise for Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Suryavanshi, recalling how at one stage in IPL 2025 he felt that the 14-year-old talent was the 'best player I have ever seen'. Buttler had been following Suryavanshi since he was included in the IPL auction list as the youngest-ever (13 years old at the time). The Englishman was then on the receiving end when Suryavanshi hit a 35-ball century, the second quickest in the IPL, against the Titans' quality bowling attack, breaking a plethora of records. He said he felt 'inspired and deflated at the same time' seeing someone so young bat like that. 'And then, the innings against us — you know, our bowling attack consists of Mohammed Siraj, a brilliant international bowler, Prasidh Krishna, an international bowler, Rashid Khan, the best T20 bowler — and he just… the scale of the sixes. They weren't just clearing the boundary — they were big sixes. I mean, you're literally a yard from him. Big sixes. And a 35-ball 100 — it was outrageous," Buttler said on the For the Love of Cricket podcast. 'It's inspiring and deflating at the same time. This guy's 20 years younger than me, and he's just smashing us all around the park. But yeah, absolutely — shockwaves throughout the cricket world," he added. However, more than the century, Buttler was impressed with Suryavanshi's mature knock against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The teenager scored 57 (33) but offered much more maturity, playing out the early overs and then smashing bowlers at will. 'I was watching on TV. And, you know, Chennai have Ravi Ashwin, Jadeja — proper seasoned pros. And he was like, bang, hit them out into the sand. And then sort of, you know, knocked one out to cover, like, I'm so in control, I'll just take one now, trot down to the other end. And at that moment, I'm like — this guy's the best player I've ever seen. Like, I'm so blown away," he added. Buttler went onto make what he knew is a 'huge statement', relating Suryavanshi's bat swing to two legendary cricketers. 'But the 100 was incredible, right? He went for every ball. It was like, no fear. Whereas that next knock, it was like — a seasoned pro, just taking down great bowlers, hitting a six when he wanted, getting off strike when he wanted. It was in a run chase as well. So, he was calm. And the swing of the bat is beautiful. He has this amazing bat swing, a bit like — it's a huge statement — Yuvraj Singh slash Brian Lara," he said.
