Pat Surtain shown in Madden 26 preview -- perfect rating to follow? Madden 26's deep dive update features a PS2 pass breakup: — Jon Heath (@ByJonHeath) June 18, 2025 Denver Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain should get a ratings boost in this year's version of the NFL's popular video game made by EA Sports. Earlier this week, "Madden NFL 26" released its first "deep dive" preview of upcoming features in the game, including a new "Custom Zones" feature for defenses. In a video demonstrating the new coverages, EA Sports showed Surtain breaking up a pass against the Las Vegas Raiders. Surtain, 25, was Denver's highest-rated player in last year's version of the video game with an initial overall rating of 95 (it increased to 97 during the season). "See, that's a good start," Surtain said of his initial rating last year. "That's a good start, Madden. That's a good start. I'mma get that 99 soon. In due time, for sure. Trust it. Truss." After winning the Defensive Player of the Year award last season, it would not be surprising to see PS2 join the prestigious "99 Club" in "Madden NFL 26." Ratings will be announced later this summer. Pat Surtain and dad join 'GMFB' prior to Father's Day
Pat Surtain and dad join 'GMFB' prior to Father's Day The Denver Broncos have been a merry-go-round of father-son duos who have played in the NFL. Some of the most notable football father-sons from the Broncos are Jonah Elliss (whose father played for Denver) and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain, whose father Patrick was a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time First Team All-Pro in his own right. The Surtain father and son duo appeared on Good Morning Football last Friday in honor of Father's Day, which was celebrated on June 15. The crew first sked the elder Surtain what it has meant to watch his son come into his own as the NFL's best defender in the past few seasons. "Oh man, it's been awesome being a dad," said Pat Sr. "Obviously as a father, he wants his kids to do better than what you did and he's already exceeded what I've done in the league. Man, it has been an awesome journey just to see hard work pay off." Later on in the conversation, Pat Jr. was asked what kind of conversations he and his father have after particularly rough games. "Conversations are pretty good," said the younger Surtain. "He gives me his feedback and we just talk ball." They didn't have to talk much about the bad games in 2024, as Pat had a great year against some of the best receivers in the NFL. You can view the entire 10-minute GMFB exchange below. Can you think of any other father-son football duos (or trios)?

Pat Surtain congratulates Cale Makar on Norris Trophy win
Pat Surtain congratulates Cale Makar on Norris Trophy win Colorado sports have been a haven for team and individual awards in recent years: the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche both won championships (Avs in 2022, Nuggets in 2023) and there have been several individual awards making their home in Denver. Two of the most recent individual award winners are the Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain, who won Defensive Player of the Year and now, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche winning his second James Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman. Makar found out he won the Norris on Wednesday, and Surtain sent a short video message to Makar. "What's going on, Cale! I want to give a huge congratulations from one defensive player of the year to another," said Surtain. "Congrats on another big award, congrats man." Makar won the Norris Trophy in the 2021 season, the Conn Smyth in 2021 (MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs) and the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) in 2019. Let's hope Surtain can join Makar as a championship winner for the Broncos in the very near future! Check out the video below.

Cooper DeJean spent time focusing on the nuances of CB positions with Patrick Surtain
Cooper DeJean spent time focusing on the nuances of CB positions with Patrick Surtain Eagles' dynamic defensive back Cooper DeJean has been focusing on the nuances of the cornerback position with NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain this offseason. The Eagles drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first two rounds of last April's NFL draft, and the results were championship worthy. Philadelphia was 2-2 entering the Week 5 bye, but lost one regular-season game after DeJean was inserted into the lineup in place of Avonte Maddox. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59, and finished the year with both Mitchell and DeJean being finalists for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award. With James Bradberry and Darius Slay departing, DeJean will have an even more critical role in Vic Fangio's defense this season, and he's already returned to training. DeJean has spent the off-season working out with NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain. Recently, Lucas Evans of the Denver Post wrote a long-form article on Surtain and his dominance at the position. One of the tidbits featured Surtain coaching DeJean on one of the nuances of cornerback positions and the importance of hand placement. Surtain was named the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and became the first cornerback to win the award since Stephon Gilmore in 2019, while the former was just the second Bronco all-time to win the prize after linebacker Randy Gradishar did so in 1978. Surtain appeared in 16 regular-season games in 2024, recording 45 total tackles (34 solo) and 11 passes defended, including four interceptions, one of which he returned for a 100-yard pick-six in Week 5 versus the Raiders. The cornerback also added a forced fumble and a recovery during the season. DeJean logged 51 tackles (38 solo) as a rookie, including 0.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries across 16 regular-season games in 2024. DeJean's biggest and best moment came in Super Bowl LIX against the Chiefs, when he picked off Patrick Mahomes for a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown on his birthday.

PFF is at it again, this time disrespecting Pat Surtain
PFF is at it again, this time disrespecting Pat Surtain Does Pro Football Focus have something against the Denver Broncos? Nik Bonitto is coming off a second-team All-Pro nod in 2024. PFF has him ranked as the 23rd-best pass rusher in the NFL (below Bradley Chubb). Zach Allen also received second-team All-Pro recognition last fall. PFF has him ranked as the league's 20th-best interior defensive lineman (below John Franklin-Myers). Meanwhile, Pat Surtain just won Defensive Player of the Year in 2024. He was recognized as the best overall defender -- regardless of position -- last season. Yet PFF's cornerback rankings have PS2 ranked No. 2 behind Sauce Gardner. "The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has recorded an 89.5 PFF coverage grade over the past three seasons, ranking second among cornerbacks, and his PFF advanced coverage grade places third," John Kosko wrote of Surtain on PFF's website. Allen has received little national recognition, while Bonitto became more of a household name last season. Surtain is an established star, widely considered the best cornerback in the NFL. PFF disrespecting all three is strange, but it has to be a coincidence. The site gave the Broncos an "A" grade for their offseason, so the rankings don't feel like a conscious decision to disrespect the club, but a reflection of a flawed grading system.
