Australia's Super Netball goes global in deal with Whoopi Goldberg's AWSN

REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni/File Photo SYDNEY - Australia's Super Netball league will be broadcast to more than 65 countries over the next three years after Netball Australia struck a deal with Whoopi Goldberg's All Women's Sports Network (AWSN), the governing body said on Friday. Netball, one of a few sports created exclusively for women and girls, is the most popular participation sport for females in Australia with Netball Australia estimating there are up to a million players across the country. The professional Super Netball league, which was launched in 2017, has eight teams and 41 of its games, including the playoffs and finals, will now be broadcast on AWSN. "This breakthrough deal puts netball on screens across the globe and cements our place at the forefront of women's sport," Netball Australia chief executive Stacey West said in a statement. "AWSN shares our vision of taking women's sport to new heights. Together, we're creating a platform for our athletes and game to shine like never before." Co-founded by Oscar-winning actor and comedian Goldberg, AWSN was launched late last year as the first global media channel dedicated exclusively to showcasing women's sports. "I am so proud to be thanking you for joining us on AWSN," Goldberg said in a video message to Super Netball released by Netball Australia. "I see that your fans are really loving you, so we want to make sure that we put you everywhere in the world so that everybody knows about you." Derek Dixon is seeking $260 million in punitive damages from Perry in a lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court and reported by TMZ on Tuesday. In the suit, Dixon accuses Perry of "a sustained pattern of workplace sexual harassment, assault and retaliation." An attorney for Perry called the lawsuit "a scam." "This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than a scam," attorney Matthew Boyd said in a statement. "But Tyler Perry will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail." Perry is a successful actor, writer and producer of dozens of TV shows and films, including the "Madea" movie series. Forbes estimates his net worth at $1.4 billion. The lawsuit claims Perry met Dixon when he was working on the event staff at a party Perry was hosting, and that Perry offered him a role on the series "Ruthless" in 2019 and a bigger part later on "The Oval." Dixon alleges that Perry sent unwanted, sexually suggestive text messages to him. The suit includes screenshots of what it said were exchanges between the two. "What's it going to take for you to have guiltless sex?" said one of the messages that Dixon said was from Perry. After the messages, Perry's behavior escalated to sexual assault, the lawsuit said. One night at Perry's home, the lawsuit said, Perry told Dixon he was too drunk to drive and urged him to stay in a guest room. Dixon said he woke up in the middle of the night to find Perry in bed with him and rubbing his thigh. In another case, Perry "forcibly pulled off Mr. Dixon's clothing, groped his buttocks, and attempted to force himself on Dixon," the lawsuit said. Dixon tried to remain friendly with Perry while rebuffing his advances in order to keep his job, the lawsuit said. Perry made it clear to Dixon that his TV character could be killed off if he ignored Perry or did not take part in his "sexual innuendos," the lawsuit said. Allen White's relationship with the Louis Vuitton began at the SAG Awards in February, and then the 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' edition of the Met Gala earlier in May, where both times the actor was dressed in the Parisian brand, whose menswear is designed by Pharrell Williams. Louis Vuitton's partnership with Allen White follows the actor's viral underwear campaign with U.S. brand Calvin Klein for Spring 2024, which depicted the chiselled star walking around New York City in a pair of white boxer briefs, soundtracked by Lesley Gore 's hit, "You Don't Own Me." While Allen White's raunchy partnership with Louis Vuitton isn't likely to cause a social media firestorm, parent company LVMH is hoping that the actor's new connection with its biggest brand will inject some much needed buzz. In its most recent trading update in April, LVMH reported a 3% drop in first-quarter sales, compared to 1% growth in the fourth quarter, as the luxury industry bellwether fights a downturn in demand for its high-end goods.
