Waco's Ultimate Fan Weekend Returns
Waco, TX (FOX 44) – The ATG Expo is back for its fourth year on June 14 and 15 at the Waco Convention Center, offering a weekend packed with gaming, celebrity guests, cosplay, and pop culture excitement! Attendees can compete in esports tournaments like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Street Fighter 6, or try their luck at the new 254 Baggerz Bowl Cornhole Tournament with cash prizes! Other highlights include cosplay contests, tabletop games, vendors, and a HOT Pro Wrestling showcase. This year, the Expo is introducing some exciting new additions to its lineup of events. 'More content than ever before,' Co-Founder Hal Hawkins said. 'We haven't had wrestling before, [or] Cornhole or Legos. We're trying to bring it all.' Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Nintendo Switch 2 journey isn't going too smoothly as Nintendo asks "please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible"

Nintendo Switch 2 has a ton of free updates available for existing Switch games, with a bunch of first-party Nintendo games getting the rub (especially Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which desperately needed it). While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is among the games that run better, it comes with an unexpected downgrade. Twitter user OatmealDome noticed on the US Eshop page for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that the game is listed as "Supported – Game progression may be affected in portions of the game" for Switch 2. When you look for more info, it turns out there's not a progression issue; it's actually just that Mii Fighters are not working as they should. On the store it says, "In online play, when a Switch 2 player and Switch player have been matched, if someone is using Mii Fighter, the match may end immediately," and because of this Nintendo asks that players "please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible." So while Mii Fighters do still work online on Switch 2, it's only if you face someone else playing on the new system. Not only are Mii Fighters having trouble in online crossplay, but Nintendo also notes, "When creating or editing and saving a Mii Fighter, the thumbnail image showing the Mii Fighter may not appear correctly." With the solution being a simple "This may be improved by saving it again." Nintendo hasn't explained why this happened, although it could be a compatibility issue stemming from the fact that Mii characters are now genderless on Switch 2, I don't know why that would matter when the gender doesn't matter in Smash, but that could have caused the issue. Regardless, Nintendo says that "This is planned to be fixed in the near future," so you can have your Hank Hill vs Sans Undertale brawls online once more. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gets Switch 2 upgrade but there's a problem
A Switch 2 ruckus (Nintendo) Nintendo has issued a warning for online play in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch 2, although there are some benefits to playing on the new console. One of the best features of the Nintendo Switch 2 is the amount of original Switch games which have received upgrades, ranging from paid-for overhauls in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom to free improvements in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, as highlighted by Nintendo prior to the Switch 2's launch, not every game has had a smooth transition between consoles, with titles like Ring Fit Adventure, 1-2-Switch, and WarioWare: Move It! coming with some caveats when played on the new system. While these titles have understandable issues connected to the lack of IR motion camera in the Switch 2 Joy-Con, one title which has encountered a bizarre problem is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – and it's all because of Mii Fighters. As highlighted by X user OatmealDome, and noted on the Switch 2 compatibility list, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has an issue in online play if someone is using a Mii Fighter character during matches against a Switch 2 user and someone on the original Switch console. 'If someone is using Mii Fighter, the match may end immediately,' Nintendo states. 'Until this is fixed, please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible.' Nintendo highlights there may be issues with displaying the Mii Fighter's thumbnail too. 'When creating or editing and saving a Mii Fighter, the thumbnail image showing the Mii Fighter may not be made correctly. This may be improved by saving it again.' In regards to both these issues, the note concludes: 'This is planned to be fixed in the near future.' While the issue is fairly minor, it's perhaps indicative of a wider problem with Miis on the Switch 2. In Mario Kart World, for example, there is no option to drive as your Miis like in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, despite them being featured on the system. This issue aside however, there are some improvements in performance when playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch 2. As highlighted by users on X, alternate costumes on the character select screen now loads instantly, whereas before it took a few seconds, with load times in general being much faster. While Nintendo didn't list Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one of the games set to receive an upgrade on Switch 2, it seems most first party Switch games are improved on the console, with titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Super Mario Bros. Mii Fighters are breaking Super Smash Bros. Ultimate matches on the Switch 2
It's a big day for everyone who has successfully acquired their Nintendo Switch 2 , but few hardware launches go off without a single hitch. In addition to some surprising hidden costs to finishing the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour , players have also discovered a compatibility problem in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate . The conditions for this issue to occur, luckily, appear to be pretty narrow. It's happening in online matches of the fighting game where one person is on a Switch 1 and the other is on a Switch 2. If one of the players choses the Mii Fighters as their character, the match may immediately end. Also, thumbnails aren't always saving correctly for the Mii Fighters, which are customizable for each person. Nintendo is aware of the problem, according to a translation posted on X by user OatmealDome. The game company said that an update for this Smash compatibility issue will be released "soon," although no more specific date has been provided. Basically, if you're going to spend launch day with your Switch 2 playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate , just don't pick Mii Fighters.

Mt. Aloysius hosts Pennsylvania high school students for esports finals
CRESSON, Pa. (WTAJ) — High school athletes across Pennsylvania traveled to Mt. Aloysius College to compete in a statewide finals for esports. The PIEA Grand Finals had over 160 players from 36 different schools across the area compete in video game matchups in Rocket League, Valorant, Overwatch 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The weekend-long competition will crown the top individuals in each game while educating the players in careers and opportunities in the world of esports. 'Mountie Esports is super excited to have everyone here,' Mt. Aloysius Esports Head Coach Sean Steffy said. Players got a chance to watch others compete in each matchup via the viewing room or in person. If not competing, the players socialized and bonded with one another over the sport that was not mainstream in years prior. 'The growth is seen year over year,' Seth Mason, the founder of The Esport Company, said. 'It's exploding. And the number one fact I'd like to see as well, that really makes this tie into the schools and the youth, is70% of students who report here in Pennsylvania aren't involved in any selectivity, except for the esports program. So this is engaging a whole demographic of kids that have been overlooked for the past 25 years.'The competition runs until Sunday at 6 p.m. You can watch the livestream here.
