'Sullivan's Crossing' Season 3: Chad Michael Murray, Scott Patterson navigate dating women committed to their careers
A big question in Sullivan's Crossing, after Maggie (Morgan Kohan) decided to stay in Nova Scotia, is how not being a practicing doctor would impact her. Now we're seeing Maggie try to balance her personal life, particularly with her boyfriend Cal (Chad Michael Murray), and that professional desire, specifically after being asked to consult on Glenn's (Dean Armstrong) medical case. Season 3, Episode 8 starts with Cal almost confronting Maggie about the letter he found in last week's episode, in which Maggie wrote to a former fling about needing to put her career first. But instead, Cal just says that he feels they haven't been spending much time together. While helping Rob (Reid Price) at the lodge (which has now been inspected and cleared to continue renovations), Cal tells him about the letter and that he thinks Maggie misses medicine more than she's letting on. Rob comforts Cal by saying that people's perspectives and priorities can change in life, and Cal shouldn't let that one letter get to him. Meanwhile, Sully (Scott Patterson) is in heartbreak mode. He's trying to call Helen (Kate Vernon), but she's not answering his calls. He's also trying to keep busy at the Crossing, clearly trying to take his mind off of Helen leaving. Maggie finds out that Helen left, through Edna (Andrea Menard), while also telling her dad that she's consulting on Glenn's case at the hospital, Sully's enemy, stressing that Glenn is really sick and that she took an oath to help people. "The Sully I know, he'd never turn his back on anyone," Maggie says. Sully agrees with her, but admits he's "on edge" after Helen left unexpectedly. That's when Maggie gets a call that Glenn took a turn for the worse, and she goes through his case again. Glenn came to the hospital with a tremor, requesting a prescription for anxiety medication, thinking he had the "yips," an involuntary muscle spasm. But the new piece of information is that he's developed a rash, similar to the firefighter who came to the hospital the other day, who was helping Rob work on the lodge. Now Maggie thinks there may be a connection. When Maggie talks to the firefighter, he tells her about his landscaping job, which he does when he's not at the firehall. He said his stomach's been off and he was tired before going to help Rob, but thought he was just coming down with something. Maggie has a breakthrough when Jacob (Joel Oulette) shares that the lichen samples he collected show signs of contamination with heavy metals, particularly arsenic, found in things like pesticides used in landscaping. It turns out that the firefighter works for the landscaping company Glenn uses at the golf course, and they were trying to use up pesticides that had recently been banned. Glenn had a particularly high exposure, because he lives and works there. Now that Glenn has answers, being in the hospital alone made him realize that he's been trying to prove his worth to a father who's never been there for him. "I hoped that if I made enough money that eventually he would take notice," Glenn tells Maggie. "But he didn't even bother to return the hospital's calls." At Maggie's request, Sully goes to the hospital to see Glenn and there's a truce. Glenn apologizes to Sully and says he wants to make things right. Glenn has stopped construction on his new development, wanting to make it a conservation area. But there's one catch, Glenn wants Sully to be the one who looks after it for him. Helen eventually picks up the phone when Sully calls and she tells him that she's been in back-to-back meetings because there's a producer in Ireland who wants to turn her novels into a TV series. And she'll be needed in Dublin for a while. Cal goes to check on Sully, who suggests that Sully go to see Helen in Ireland, but Sully doesn't want to "get in the way of her career." Fans of Sully and Helen will be glad to know that Helen calls Sully back with a big proposal, she asks him to come with her to Ireland. "Maybe it's time for you to let go and start focusing on your future," Helen says, with Sully agreeing to join her. In other relationship updates, some couples are stronger than others. Lola (Amalia Williamson) talks to Sydney (Lindura) about her first time having sex, and with Jacob specifically. They talk about the "liberating" but "vulnerable" feeling of opening up to someone so intimately. Despite her feelings for him, Lola is being realistic about the fact that Jacob has to go back to Alberta to finish his degree. But Jacob decides that he's going to call his advisor to see if he can finish up his research from Nova Scotia, meaning the couple could be together for much longer. Meanwhile, Sydney and Rafe (Dakota Taylor) talk about the future of their relationship, with Sydney saying she's not interested in getting married. It's very different for Rafe, who believes a marriage license is important, leaving a big question mark about how long this relationship will last. The episode ends with a big dinner, prepared by Edna, with Frank (Tom Jackson), Cal, Maggie, Sully, Lola and Jacob. But suddenly Edna drops a salad bowl and says she can't see. Another Sullivan's Crossing episode that ends with a cliffhanger.

'Sullivan's Crossing' Season 3: Chad Michael Murray, Morgan Kohan tackle relationship tension
In Sullivan's Crossing Season 3, Episode 6, things get heated between Cal (Chad Michael Murray) and Maggie (Morgan Kohan). After she told Cal that she didn't want to move in with him, the question is whether their relationship will last. Additionally, it's an uphill battle for Rob (Reid Price), who has to fix up the lodge in just two weeks when the health and safety officer returns. But additional snags make Rob's dream diner look almost impossible to achieve. Starting with the lodge, Jacob (Joel Oulette) is able to identify that there's "wet rot," a fungus that gets into wood when it's damp. Rob has to replace the infected parts and treat the rest to make sure it doesn't spread. But things get worse when they find a giant water stain on the floor, meaning all the plumbing has to be replaced. Luckily, Cooper (Steve Lund) agrees to have the guys from the fire station help at the lodge, so Rob can, hopefully, make the two-week deadline. But when one of the firefighters gets stomach pain, can't breathe and eventually develops a rash, the question is whether there's possibly something at the lodge that caused the reaction. Sully (Scott Patterson) is feeling guilty about not checking the condition of the lodge before promising the space to Rob. But when Helen (Kate Vernon) comes over to comfort him, she convinces Sully to take a yoga class to ease his mind, as much as possible. On the way back from the class, Helen probes about something Sully's wanted to do that can push him out of his comfort zone. Sully reveals that he's always wanted to try ballroom dancing, and she recommends they look into taking classes together. Meanwhile, Edna (Andrea Menard) is facing her own medical issues. After experiencing possible menopause symptoms, she finally goes to see a doctor about hot flashes, feeling anxious and getting headaches. But when she gets there, the doctor is quite dismissive, saying that she didn't book a physical and she should make an appointment with an OBGYN. Frank (Tom Jackson) is furious about how she was treated, but following that appointment, Edna tells him she's thinking about retiring. Now on to the tense relationship between Cal and Maggie. While Maggie wants to have a conversation with Cal about where they stand, he's more interested in channelling the awkwardness into fixing the lodge. Eventually talking, Maggie says she feels Cal has "some things to work out" before they move in together, but Cal questions whether it's really him that's the problem. At the hospital, following the incident with the firefighter who was working on the lodge, Cal says he thought that they were going to move their relationship forward. And says Maggie isn't being honest to herself about why she doesn't want to move in with him. "I think there's something you're holding back, Maggie," Cal says. "And until you figure that out, I just don't think there's anything left to talk about." Maggie tries to talks to Sully about it, but they're interrupted when Helen, who's coming out of the shower at Sully's place, comes downstairs. Then, while Maggie thought her mom was calling, it was Walter (Peter Outerbridge) on the line. Maggie calls him out for telling her that her father didn't want to have anything to do with her. "I was just trying to protect you, Maggie," he says in response, adding that he thinks she should be moving back to Boston to continue to pursue her career as a surgeon. Maggie stresses that she didn't leave Boston because of Walter, the Crossing is her home. But that conversation was enough to go back to Cal, running to his house in the rain. Maggie tells Cal he was right, she hasn't been honest with herself. "I'm scared of making a mistake," Maggie says. "I'm scared of losing myself." "I spent my entire life trying to be perfect, trying to prove that I was someone worth loving, and I am scared that if we do this that you're going to wake up one day and realize that I'm not what you want." "I know how hard it is for you to let yourself trust someone, " Cal says in response. "I need you to give me a chance. Give us a chance. I love you, Maggie. I just want to make you happy. If you'll let me." And some passionate making out, and a little more, implies that things end up OK between the show's star couple. Speaking of romance, Jacob and Lola (Amalia Williamson) spend more time together, as she helps him with his research on lichens. That's when they share their first kiss. But the shut down mine they were waiting out the storm in seems to collapse to end the episode. Hopefully they're OK when we see the new couple next week.

'Sullivan's Crossing' Season 3: Chad Michael Murray, Morgan Kohan struggle to take next step in Cal, Maggie's relationship
After spending time with Cal (Chad Michael Murray) and Maggie (Morgan Kohan) at the farm with Cal's parents in New York, Sullivan's Crossing Season 3 continues its story in Nova Scotia. While Cal is still trying to cope with his father's diagnosis, there's a lot going on with Sully (Scott Patterson), both personally and professionally. Let's not forget that Sully is facing the threat from Glenn (Dean Armstrong) after the Nova Scotia Environmental Agency was called to look into the construction of his resort. But things get even messier in this Maggie is heading off to work, Sully doesn't plan to join her and Maggie's concerned that Glenn's threat is the reason why, despite Sully's insistence that it's not about Glenn. Edna (Andrea Menard) and Frank (Tom Jackson) have a similar concern, but Frank thinks Sully may have started drinking again. Frank goes to see Sully, offers to spend some time with him and asks if he wants to go to a meeting an AA meeting, but Sully tries to assure Frank he doesn't need any help. Shortly after that Helen (Kate Vernon) shows up, Sully invited her over for lunch. They talk about the importance of letting go of the past to make room for the future, but then Helen then pulls out a bottle of wine she brought for them to share. When Maggie has to go back to the house to get some potatoes for Edna, she see an empty bottle of wine on the kitchen counter and goes up to Sully's room to find him. Sully says he wasn't drinking and Helen appears behind him to explain. Then Maggie realizes she's interrupted something intimate and quickly leaves. Running into each other later that day, Helen tells Maggie she wouldn't have brought over the bottle of wine if she knew Sully was an alcoholic. But Maggie stresses that Sully's had recent struggles with his sobriety and he's in a good place, and she'd "hate for anything to change that." Meanwhile, Cal is trying to fix his truck, but ends up trading it in for a sports car instead, one he's wanted since he was a kid and his dad took him to a car show. Taking Maggie for a ride, he tells Maggie he can't wait to show his dad the car when he visits. Then Cal asks Maggie if she'll move in with him. But Maggie thinks he's still trying to cope with his dad's diagnosis and he's making rash decisions, and adds that now that Sully is seeing Helen, she doesn't want to leave him alone if he might get hurt. Cal says it's fine, but walks away looking disappointed. But on the topic of Sully and Helen, she tells him that Maggie told her he's only recently sober and he's been through a lot, and she wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize that. "It's true I have ben through a lot," Sully says in response. "But I'm a stronger person because of it. You don't need to worry about me Helen." "I have no idea where this is going. ... But I do know that I haven't felt this way about anyone in a very long time, and I think we at least owe it to ourselves to see where it could go. No stings. No commitments. No expectations. ... Why not live in the moment with me." Helen agrees to "see where this goes" with Sully. Sully ends up telling Maggie that she has to stop worrying about him, that she has to focus on her life. Maggie tells Sully that Cal asked her to move in with him, but she said it's not the right timing with how he's responding to his dad's diagnosis. Sully questions her reason for saying no, specifically whether her moving in with Cal will actually negatively impact his ability to cope with what's happening with his father. There's also some significant progress in Sydney (Lindura) and Rafe's (Dakota Taylor) relationship. Things are pretty rocky, but it's all stemming from how Cooper (Steve Lund) is treating Rafe at work, even telling him to not come in for the day. And Rafe thinks he's about to get fired after seeing Cooper talk to someone from the regional department. Rafe takes Cal's advice to go to the station to talk to Cooper. He starts by telling Cooper he know he has no intention of keeping him around, but Rafe knows he's a good firefighter so he won't be pushed out. Cooper says he didn't have any intention of firing him and he only gave him time off because he thought that's what Rafe wanted. Cooper also says the talk he had with the person from regional had nothing to do with Rafe, it was a personal matter. But back at home, Sydney ends up calling out Rafe for either not being home, or not wanting to spend time with her when he's home. Rafe finally tells Sydney how bad things have been at work and how he thought Cooper was going to fire him. But Rafe says Sydney is the best thing that's ever happened to him and they reconcile. Meanwhile, Rob (Reid Price) is starting to setup his restaurant in Sully's lodge, with plans for it to be Acadian cuisine, and Sydney volunteers to help with the design of the space. And Rob's personal life is heating up, spending some one-on-one time with Jane (Cindy Sampson). But then there's a significant impact to his progress. To end the episode, someone from the health and safety office shows up, telling Sully there was an anonymous complaint and he's looking for any possible violations at the new restaurant being opened on the property, Rob's restaurant. Everything looked fine, until Sully hits a wooden board and the wall and it crumbled. The inspector says they have two weeks to bring the lodge up to code, otherwise he'll have to have it condemned. An absolutely devastating result for Rob who's worked so hard to try to get his own restaurant.
