Leaving Certificate Spanish exam tips with Katie Lenehan
Katie Lenehan is a Leaving Certificate French and Spanish teacher in The Dublin Academy of Education, and has been a media contributor for both subjects for the past number of years - including RTÉ Study Hub. Tips for the Spanish exam Don't rush your comprehensions as they amount to 30% of your final grade. Make sure you understand what each question means in all of the comprehensions to avoid losing unnecessary marks. Spend 30 minutes total on your opinion piece. Divide that into 10 minutes of planning, 15 minutes of writing and 5 minutes of proof reading. When planning, make sure you don't overcomplicate your answer, and ensure that you don't contradict yourself by using arguments that don't support your initial opinion. In Section C, pay very close attention to the verbs in both the question and your answer. When revising, ensure that you learn the endings for each tense but also when each tense equates to in English so you can accurately translate in the exam. Read everything written on the two pages in the dialogue construction before writing a single word down. Often there are many clues provided in the question, and you will also figure out who you're talking to, who you're meant to be in the question, and how the other person addresses you. This will ensure you don't lose makes for adjective agreement and register (formal/ informal). Use the first playing of the track in the aural to listen and write down any buzz words in the columns on the side of the page. Use the pauses in the second playing to write your answers, and then use the third playing of the track to proofread your answers and fill in any gaps you may have. Timings for Spanish 220 Marks in 150 minutes Use the first 10 minutes to scan the paper and pick your opinion title piece Section A Journalistic Text - 25 mins Short Comps - 10 mins Section B Questions 1-4 - 25 mins Opinion Piece - 30 mins (10 to plan, 15 to write and 5 to proofread) Section C Dialogue Construction - 25 mins Diary/ Note - 20 Mins Then give yourself 5 mins to check on everything.

Leaving Cert Irish: Exam tips with Múinteoir Séadhan

Make Every Minute Count in Your Irish Study With the State Exams just around the corner, it's more important than ever to ensure that every minute of study is focused, efficient, and productive. A structured and strategic approach to preparation can make all the difference for students aiming to excel in Higher Level Irish. Here are three essential tips to help students maximise their marks: 1. Get to Know the Past Papers Familiarity with the structure and style of past exam questions is key. By regularly reviewing previous papers, students can gain insight into common question types and recurring themes. This not only helps narrow their focus to the most relevant parts of the studied texts but also builds confidence in understanding the language and phrasing used in the exams. Tip: Don't just read the questions - actively engage with them. Highlight patterns, practise answering under exam conditions, and review examiner marking schemes where possible. 2. Mimic Real Exam Conditions Effective preparation involves more than just passive revision—it requires simulation. Practice answering exam-style questions under timed conditions that replicate the real exam environment. Take Irish Paper 2 as an example. For the poetry question, you'll face three parts: a 15-mark question, a 9-mark question, and a 6-mark question. Allocate your time accordingly: 20 minutes for the 15-mark question 10 minutes combined for the 9-mark and 6-mark questions Stick rigidly to these time limits during practice sessions. Developing time management now will prevent stress and ensure stronger performance on the day. 3. Prioritise the High-Value Questions Many students fall into the trap of focusing on their favourite topics or lower-weighted sections. A smart strategy is to target the questions that carry the most marks. Now that the Irish oral is complete, all remaining attention should shift to the written papers, which hold a total of 360 marks. Two of the most valuable components are: The Essay on Paper 1 – worth 100 marks The Reading Comprehensions on Paper 2 – also worth 100 marks These sections should be the foundation of your revision. Allocate more time to mastering them as they offer the greatest return on investment when it comes to boosting your final grade. Stay focused in these final two weeks. At this stage, quality matters more than quantity. Stick to your plan, stay consistent, and revise with purpose. If you come across a word you don't recognise in a question, don't panic. Trust in your preparation and your ability to work through it. You know more than you think. Wishing you all the very best of luck. Leaving Cert Reaction: English Paper 1 & Paper 2 reviewed

While there is no need to dwell on things, we are here to help you review the exams with experts sharing their thoughts on Leaving Cert English Paper 1 and Paper 2. Plus, you can download the exam papers for Higher and Ordinary Level below: Leaving Cert English Paper 1 - Higher Leaving Cert English Paper 1 - Ordinary Liam Dingle, English teacher at the Institute of Education takes us through Paper 1. Press play up top to watch the video and read on for more. Key points The paper reflected the world beyond the exam hall and the experiences of modern students. The layout and range of questions was consistent with recent papers. Liam says: "Hopefully, students will leave the exam hall with a sense of satisfaction. There were no artificial barriers or curveballs to startle students facing the rest of their exams. The paper advocated for optimism and the fight of the underdog; hopefully they will have taken that message to heart." Study Hub regular Clodagh Havel casts an eye over Paper 2 in the video above. She describes it as "a testing paper, not necessarily an arduous one but nevertheless students will feel a lot more pushed to react and grapple with the exam than they did yesterday." Her key points "Duality" seems to have been a hidden theme throughout. Some unusual vocabulary will have caused some to pause or feel disconcerted in their approach. Clodagh says: "Many will leave the exam hall feeling that it was a long slog, particularly in comparison to the much more amenable Paper 1. Yet underneath the sometimes excessively worded questions, there was something for everyone. Students who allowed themselves the composure to peel away the layers of the onion will find themselves tired but satisfied."

Leaving Cert Maths Ordinary Level exam tips with Jean Kelly
Study Hub guest Jean Kelly, from Dublin's Institute of Education, is here to share her expert knowledge with students preparing for Leaving Cert Ordinary Level Maths. In the video up top she runs through Paper 1 and 2 with Study Hub host Maura Fay. Jean looks at what might come up and the best ways for students to get set. Jean also shared six videos full of great advice and tips for Leaving Cert students sitting the exams with RTÉ Learn. Jean has a wide breadth of experience in teaching Leaving Cert Ordinary Level Maths to students of all abilities and has been teaching in The Institute of Education for over 20 years.
