Denmark's Boston Beer Company bags Perth Royal Beer Award for The Right nut brown ale
Denmark brewery Boston Beer Company has won top honours for its dark ale at this year's Perth Royal Beer Awards, taking out the best amber — dark ale packaged category with its beer The Right. The Perth Royal Beer Awards recognise the State's best brewing, with this year's competition drawing 447 entries across eight categories – from pilsners and stouts to sours and IPAs – submitted by 45 breweries and evaluated by a panel of 47 independent judges. Boston's head brewer Reid Stratton said the award was a well-earned honour for the brewing team. 'We've been recognised for the really hard work that the brewing team does, and you often don't see a lot of the work that goes into the brewing, we're here early in the morning, toiling away, and making it all happen behind the scenes,' he said. 'So, a couple of times a year during these competitions it is a really great chance to recognise the really hard work that the team's been doing, and it just gives everyone a bit of a boost and a bit of a reminder that there are people out there really enjoying our beers and I really think to get that feedback is really valuable.' Margaret River Beer Co. snagged the coveted champion beer trophy for its In The Pines IPA, as well as best IPA draught and five gold medals. Head brewer Ryan Allen marked the moment in style by drinking straight from the trophy. Each beer was blind-judged against five key criteria – appearance, aroma, flavour, style and technical quality – with medals earned through strict benchmarks of excellence. Mr Stratton categorised Boston's The Right as a versatile crowd-pleaser. 'It's a beer we've been making from new year's at the brewery and has won awards in the past,' he said. 'It's kind of one of those perfect in-between beers, it's not our bestselling beer, but it's got a really awesome following of people that just love it.' Boston is always cooking up something new, and Mr Stratton said he was excited about a new quartet of beers being released this Friday. The new release will be called the Biscuit Tin Quartet, with one beer in each four-pack flavoured after a different kind of popular biscuit, including Wagon Wheels, chocolate chip cookies and mint slice.

US and NATO Ally Patrol Waters Near China
The United States teamed up with the United Kingdom-a major NATO ally-to conduct patrols in the East China Sea, where China has carried out controversial maritime activities. Newsweek has contacted the Chinese defense and foreign ministries for comment by email. The East China Sea lies between China and the First Island Chain-an island defense line formed by Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines as part of a U.S. containment strategy aimed at restricting China's naval activities through America-aligned territories in the event of war. China asserts its sovereignty in the East China Sea by maintaining a coast guard presence near a disputed, Japan-administered group of islets and by installing fossil fuel facilities in the region-raising Japan's concerns that it is attempting to alter the status quo in its favor. Official photos released on Saturday show USCGC Stratton-a U.S. Coast Guard national security cutter deployed in the western Pacific since mid-May-sailing alongside the Royal Navy patrol vessel HMS Spey at an undisclosed location in the East China Sea on June 1. In a news release on June 11, the Royal Navy said that the Spey joined the Stratton in the Korea Strait-a 120-mile-wide waterway north of the East China Sea that separates South Korea and Japan. The two ships conducted close maneuvering and communications training. The Spey is also deployed in the Indo-Pacific region. The British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales is expected to arrive in the area soon with a task group as part of an eight-month deployment. Following the joint operation, the British patrol vessel-which had been monitoring illicit activities by North Korean ships in waters surrounding Japan-visited Sasebo in Kyushu, Japan's southernmost main island, on June 5. The ship was spotted departing on Sunday. Meanwhile, the U.S. Coast Guard cutter conducted an exercise with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in waters south of Honshu-Japan's main island-on June 8. The ship made a port call in Kagoshima, Kyushu, on Monday, according to a local ship spotter. The Stratton is also scheduled to participate in a trilateral exercise with the Japanese and Philippine coast guards in waters off Kagoshima from Monday to Friday. BRP Teresa Magbanua, a Philippine Coast Guard patrol vessel, docked in Kagoshima on June 12. The U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area said on Saturday: "U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton is deployed to the Indo-Pacific to advance relationships with ally and partner nations to build a more secure and prosperous region with unrestricted, lawful access to the maritime commons." The Royal Navy said in a news release on June 11 about the Spey and the Stratton: "To enhance the understanding between the two traded places with their opposite numbers." The Philippine Coast Guard said in a Facebook post on Saturday: "A joint search and rescue drill will be conducted as part of the [trilateral coast guard exercise] to highlight operational readiness, coordinated response, and reinforce regional cooperation in addressing maritime challenges." It remains to be seen how the U.S. and its allies will further enhance their naval or coast guard presence in disputed waters near China-including the Yellow Sea and the South China Sea-amid China's expanding maritime activities. Tiffany Stratton had tragic surrender cobra after horrible first pitch
Tiffany Stratton had tragic surrender cobra after horrible first pitch WWE star Tiffany Stratton threw out a first pitch at a New York Mets game, and it was so painfully terrible. At this rate, we might need to update the list of the worst first pitches ever because it's the second throw in as much as a week that's been thrown everywhere but to the player waiting at home plate. First, former NFL lineman Taylor Lewan had his throw go wide left during a Cardinals game, invoking shades of 50 Cent's horrific throw from years past. Now, Stratton has entered the chat, and she might have let Lewan off the hook for his efforts. Stratton arrived at Citi Field, looking happy as a clam, and even showed off her Mets-themed wrestling belt. Pretty cool stuff, right? However, things went south quickly. As the WWE women's world champion stepped to the mound, she yelled her signature phrase, 'It's Tiffy Time,' before she launched the baseball. Sadly, she hurled that poor ball so far that it went over outfielder Jared Young's head and into the dirt. Realizing the error of her ways, Stratton immediately went full surrender cobra and moments later, put her hands on her head again in utter disbelief. Fortunately, Stratton might have taken the whole thing in stride. She made several posts to her social media accounts on Thursday celebrating her day, including a TikTok video and an Instagram post. 'Put me in, Mets,' she said. You'll nail it next time, Tiffany Stratton. You were just a bit — not really even close at all — outside.

Fans React To WWE Star Tiffany Stratton's Wild First Pitch
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. WWE Women's World Champion Tiffany Stratton threw the first pitch at Thursday's New York Mets home game against the Washington Nationals. Her toss was compared to some of the most infamous celebrity MLB first pitches. Stratton's throw sailed over the left-handed batters' box and one-hopped the backstop, well out of reach for Mets outfielder Jared Young, who was the ceremonial catcher. The Mets chose Stratton to throw the first pitch after her recent successful title defense as the WWE Women's Champion. She won the title in January and has made many successful defenses. The former United States national team gymnast joined the SmackDown brand in 2024 after a dominant run in NXT. Stratton debuted in WWE in November 2021 after winning weightlifting and bodybuilding championships following her gymnastics career. Infamous Celebrity First Pitches Stratton's throw brought to mind other ceremonial first pitches that went wrong. One of the most infamous also happened at a Mets home game at Citi Field. Rapper 50 Cent missed the plate by an unbelievable margin when he threw the first pitch at a May 2014 game in Queens. That gaffe remains a major celebrity lowlight on the mound a decade later. Not quite Baba Booey but not far off, either. At least it was at a Mets game. They're used to seeing throws like that. 😂 — Eh, what's up Doc (@rabbitSZN2) June 12, 2025 While 50 Cent's throw is a benchmark for bad ceremonial first pitches, he is not alone. "Call Me, Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen spiked a ball directly into the turf in 2013 at Tropicana Field before a Tampa Bay Rays game. Other Sports Stars and Celebrities Miss the Mark Stratton is not the only combat sports star to go viral for a bad first pitch. UFC legend Conor McGregor had a moment to forget at Wrigley Field in 2021. He launched a fastball to the backstop, far beyond the right-handed batters' box. The throw bounced off the brick wall and sharply towards the first base dugout. On international soil, five-time Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey tossed a ball into the turf well in front of the plate in 2008. Wearing high heels and 2000s attire, Carey threw the first pitch at the Tokyo Dome before a game between the Yomiuri Giants and Rakuten Eagles. Her offering did not even make it halfway to the catcher. Ceremonial first pitches come with significant pressure, and some celebrities handle the moment better than others.
