Former Super Bowl champion predicts drama for Steelers' Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf

Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf could have trouble in paradise before the end of the 2025 season — at least that's what former NFL defensive end Chris Long believes. Long, a two-time Super Bowl champion, recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and brought up Rodgers' infamous red line drama when discussing his pairing with Metcalf: Advertisement 'When he was in New York — and I'm not taking a shot, but I don't love seeing stuff that should be worked out in the locker room, worked out on podcast,' Long said. 'Metcalf has not always been the most surgical route runner. You talk about if we end up in a situation where somebody's not on the right side of the 'red line', famously, infamously, I could see some stuff like that happening — and the growing pains being tough.' The situation that has Long worried stems back in Week 6 of the 2024 season, when then-Jets QB Rodgers criticized WR Mike Williams for running the wrong route — as he should've ran the 'red line.' Rodgers and Metcalf have been bonding heavily throughout the offseason so far — hopefully enough to prevent Long's worrisome prediction from coming to fruition. Insider gives positive update on Steelers, T.J. Watt contract negotiations

T.J. Watt's minicamp no-show was far from ideal — but insider Mike Garafolo recently provided some reason for hope. On last Tuesday's episode of The Insiders, Garafolo took a more positive stance on the Steelers–Watt situation: Advertisement 'I don't feel that this one is contentious,' Garafolo said. 'If a player misses mandatory minicamp over the next couple days, you don't have to fine a player. We'll see what the Steelers wind up doing on this one. I know that they feel really good about the talks that they've had and the offers that they've made. … Mike Tomlin has the belief that T.J. Watt is gonna be just fine working away from the facility, so they're not stressing about that part of it. If there was a pressure point right now — and the start of training camp seems like it's a pressure point — I feel like this thing would get done. And it will get done at some point. I don't sense any long-term concerns about T.J. Watt — despite the fact that he's throwing up that peace sign in that picture he posted on Instagram a couple of weeks ago." Despite concerns over whether or not the Steelers are even close to the number Watt is looking for, there seems to be an overreaction stemming from his minicamp absence — one that can be easily alleviated if he shows up at training camp next month. Steelers' Will Howard thankful for 'great mentor' Aaron Rodgers: 'He's been so good to me'

Aaron Rodgers is doing everything he can to mentor Will Howard — and the Steelers rookie greatly appreciates it. At mandatory minicamp, Howard was asked by reporters how his interactions have been with Rodgers — and this was his response (courtesy of Steelers Live): Advertisement '[Rodgers] is a great mentor — already treated me with the utmost respect and just been really good to me,' Howard said. 'And a guy like that, he doesn't have to do that. I really just appreciate him being willing to take me under his wing a little bit and give me pointers and tips here and there. There's already some things that he's said to me that have already helped me.' Howard told reporters that Rodgers advised him not to get too wide at the top of his five-step drop, in order to generate more force in his throws — a difference the rookie says he already felt on the field. Steelers' massive TE shows newfound work ethic at OTAs — motivated by contract extension

Steelers TE Darnell Washington has been putting in extra work this offseason — and he's ready for his Year 3 breakout. At Steelers OTAs on Tuesday, Washington was asked if he could make more of an impact in the Steelers' passing attack this season — and this was his response (courtesy of Steelers Live): Advertisement "That's one of the reasons why I want to start becoming more of a pro — than I was previous years," Washington explained. "My first two years, I really wasn't taking care of my body. I wasn't like rolling out. I wasn't getting massages. I would just come in, do the work, leave. Now I'm like — kind of want to stick around the [Steelers training] facility. Do a little bit more with the quarterback after practice, or do some more recovery." Washington explained that he's dropped some weight since adopting this newfound mindset — and even described a new extension as motivation: "Just improve year by year because after your third year is your fourth year — then everybody want a new contract. That's how I want to attack it, and just be the best version of myself." Washington is one of the most underrated offensive weapons at the Steelers' disposal — and this new work ethic could do wonders in his third year in Pittsburgh. Steelers receive potentially troublesome update on Aaron Rodgers signing

Aaron Rodgers can hint at a Steelers signing all he wants — but one insider claims he hasn't guaranteed a commitment to Pittsburgh, even by mandatory minicamp. On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, insider Tom Pelissero had this to say about Rodgers potentially skipping out on the Steelers: Advertisement 'I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming. Certainly, all indications — if you just look at it logically — are that he's coming, based on his comments about, 'Hey, there's a team that plays in Chicago I might play for; I'm not playing in New Orleans,'" Pelissero remarked. "He took one visit [with the Steelers]. He's been throwing with DK Metcalf. He talks all the time with Mike Tomlin. I know he's talked with Arthur Smith. So, there are all these signs that he's coming, but he has not affirmatively said, 'Hey, June 9 — book me a ticket, I'm coming in and I'm going to join this team.'' The fact that Rodgers hasn't given any affirmations — even behind closed doors — is troubling, as the four-time MVP has inadvertently held the Steelers hostage at quarterback this offseason with this never-ending waiting game.
