Kelantan maintains vape sale ban, no licences issued since 2013
KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan government has reiterated its policy of not allowing the sale of vape products in the state, having not issued any business licences for such sales since 2013. State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said the move was not intended to ban individual use, but to control access to vape products, particularly among teenagers and students. 'We have not issued any license for vape sale at any premises since 2013. Kelantan, along with Johor, are among the earliest states to take this stand,' he told reporters after the State Executive Council meeting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex, here today. Hilmi was responding to questions about the need to enforce the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852), which was passed in Parliament last year. According to him, the removal of nicotine from the First Schedule of Poisons under the Poisons Act 1952 means that vape can now be sold legally, as long as no specific regulations are enforced. 'With nicotine no longer listed under the Poisons Act, vape sales are now open due to the lack of a main regulatory body. Until Act 852 is fully enforced, gaps in regulatory control will persist,' he said. Meanwhile, Hilmi said the local authorities in Kelantan have continued to carry out regular enforcement operations to curb unlicenced vape sales. 'In 2024, a total of 40 operations were conducted, with 67 seizures. Between January and March 2025, 10 operations were conducted and 16 seizures were recorded,' he said. He stressed that repeat offenders risk strict action, including business licence revocation and permanent closure. Hilmi also acknowledged ongoing challenges in addressing illegal sales, especially through online platforms that fall outside local jurisdiction. 'Our enforcement authority is limited to the local level. Online sales are difficult to control because the federal government still permits open vape sales. This continues to allow unauthorised distribution,' he added.

Kelantan to strengthen strategic cooperation with Media Prima
KOTA BARU: The Kelantan state government will continue its strategic partnership with Media Prima Bhd (MPB) to organise a variety of programmes across the state, including both academic and entertainment-based initiatives. State Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said the government welcomes all forms of programmes, provided they comply with guidelines aligned with the state's policies. "Entertainment programmes are a necessity, but we have set specific conditions that all organisers must adhere to. "Kelantan is a state with its own uniqueness. For the past 35 years, we have upheld the 'Developing with Islam' policy, and we continue to maintain that approach to this day." Hilmi made the remarks following a courtesy visit by Media Prima Television Network News and Current Affairs group editor Azhari Muhidin and MPB deputy group managing editor and New Straits Times group editor Farrah Naz Abd Karim, at his office in the Kota Darulnaim Complex yesterday. He expressed appreciation to MPB for the visit, noting that it contributes to fostering positive relations and mutual understanding in efforts to deliver accurate and timely information to the public. "We need the support of media partners to disseminate truthful information about Kelantan's development. "God willing, we will see major progress once key infrastructure projects are completed," he said, referring to the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport upgrade in Pengkalan Chepa, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the Central Spine Road (CSR), and the Kuala Krai–Gua Musang Highway. Meanwhile, Azhari said the visit reaffirmed the long-standing collaboration between MPB and the state government, citing successful programmes such as Jom Heboh.

Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad PUTRAJAYA (May 4): Compliance with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Drug) Order 2025, which came into effect on May 1, has been satisfactory, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He reiterated that private healthcare facilities and pharmacies will not face fines or compounds during the initial three-month period if they fail to display medicine prices, as the Health Ministry is currently focusing on the education aspect. 'The three-month grace period is intended to give all quarters time to better understand the requirements and how to properly implement the price display measures. 'During visits to three pharmacies and private clinics yesterday, I was shown various methods being used, including via QR (quick response) codes,' he said at a media briefing session on the Lung Health Initiatives Malaysia 2025-2030 here today. Dzulkefly expressed hope that all private healthcare facilities would work together with the ministry to ensure the successful implementation of the order. 'I believe everyone will eventually be on board. We will also engage with general practitioners to assist with compliance,' he said. Under the order, all private healthcare facilities and community pharmacies must clearly display the prices of medicines sold, either on shelves, in catalogues or in written price lists. Regarding the ban on vape product sales in Terengganu, Dzulkefly welcomed the move, saying that the ministry would continue to strengthen the enforcement and regulation of electronic cigarettes and vape products under the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024. The media previously reported that the Terengganu government will enforce the statewide ban on vape product sales starting Aug 1.
