Revealed: The Cork shop which sold this week's €250m Euromillions ticket - ‘It's huge… very exciting'
The shop, at 91 Shandon Street, is located on the northside of the city. Shop owner Ted Clifford has said it is a "very exciting" day for his store, which has been in operation for 95 years on Shandon St in the northside of the city. The shop sold a €100,000 winning ticket on New Year's Eve to a local customer, a moment that he said must have "started our winning streak". "It's huge, it's definitely going to be the hottest day of the year on Shandon St," he said. Speaking to RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr Clifford, who is the third generation to run the shop, said it was "fantastic news" to receive yesterday and they are "proud to be part of the community". On whether he has any idea who won the ticket, Mr Clifford said he has "no idea" as so many customers buy tickets in the run-up to a draw, but that he sends his "warmest congratulations" to the winner and their family. His shop receives €25,000 in prize money due to selling the winning ticket, with Mr Clifford planning a "big celebration" with his staff. And – although there has been no sight of the winner yet – the National Lottery also confirmed yesterday the Ireland's newest multimillionaire has made contact with the Prize Claims team. The contact came after days of speculation as to who the winner of the life-changing amount is. This person is the 18th winner in Ireland of the EuroMillions jackpot since it started in 2004. Speaking yesterday after the winner made contact, spokesperson for the National Lottery Emma Monaghan said; "We are absolutely thrilled to have heard from our EuroMillions winner. "At this point, our priority is to give them the necessary time and space to make arrangements and let this life-changing news sink in.' The record-breaking win surpasses the €175m record for the largest cheque ever presented to an Irish player, in February 2019. The winning numbers this week were: 13, 22, 23, 44 ,49 and the Lucky Stars were 3 and 5. The National Lottery has urged the winner 'to stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can'. Dolores McNamara from Limerick was Ireland's first EuroMillions winner, scooping over €115m in July 2005. The jackpot is capped once it reaches €250m. In total, over 92,200 players in Ireland won prizes in the EuroMillions and Plus games on Tuesday night.

'Mason adds an important skill set to our roster,' Kraken general manager Jason Botterill said in a statement. 'He's a veteran player who brings a combination of size, skill and toughness. Dallas is up against the cap, especially after signing trade-deadline acquisition Mikko Rantanen to an eight-year, $96-million contract and inking forward Matt Duchene to a four-year, $18-million extension on Thursday. Marchment has 76 goals and 113 assists in 302 regular-season games with the Stars, Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. He has 11 goals and eight assists in 59 playoff games. Stars trade Mason Marchment to Kraken for 2 draft picks, free up cap space
The Dallas Stars traded winger Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night for two draft picks, starting the process of freeing up cap space as they enter the busy part of the NHL offseason. The Kraken took on all of Marchment's $4.5 million cap hit for next season, according to league sources, and sent a 2026 third-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick back to Dallas in return. He signed with the Stars as a free agent in 2022 and put up 56 goals and 131 points in 211 games — reaching the third round of the playoffs each year. Advertisement The cap-clearing trade came just hours after Dallas signed veteran forward Matt Duchene to a four-year extension carrying a $4.5 million AAV. More moves are expected to come in the days and weeks ahead as the Stars look for more roster flexibility. Dallas is already within $5 million of the league's $95.5 million cap ceiling for 2025-26 — leaving them with less room to maneuver than every other team. The Kraken have oodles of cap space to work with and are looking to take a step forward after two years outside of the playoffs. They were drawn to how the 6-foot-5 Marchment can help alter the look and feel of their forward lines. 'I think Mason has a unique combination of size, skill and strength,' Kraken GM Jason Botterill told 'He works well down in the corners and around the net and that's an element we want to continue to add to our group here.' The 30-year-old Marchment has appeared in 302 NHL games for Toronto, Florida and Dallas, putting up 76 goals and 189 points. He's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2026.

The Dallas Stars were the latest, getting forward Matt Duchene, 34, re-signed to a four-year, $18 million contract on June 19. He led the Stars with 82 points in 82 games and set a career best with 52 assists. The Chicago Blackhawks had signed leading goal scorer Ryan Donato to a four-year, $16 million contract on June 18. Duchene's four-year contract is a change from his recent deals, though it is team-friendly. After the Nashville Predators bought him out in 2023, he signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Stars and had a 65-point season. He signed another one-year, $3 million deal before averaging a point a game last season. 'As our team's leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community," general manager Jim Nill said. "The fit with Matt and our team has been seamless from the start, and we're looking forward to continuing to pursue our shared goal of bringing a championship to Dallas." Edmonton Oilers forward Trent Frederic, a trade deadline acquisition, could be getting closer to a deal. Matt Duchene signs four-year extension worth $18 million with Dallas Stars
Dallas Stars forward Matt Duchene has signed a four-year contract extension with the team, general manager Jim Nill announced on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $4.5 million and will run through the 2028-29 NHL season. PuckPedia states the contract includes a full no-move clause for the first two seasons. In the final two years, it shifts to a modified no-trade clause, which allows Duchene to submit a list of five teams to which he can be traded. He signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Dallas and returned on the same terms for the 2024-25 season, and he delivered in both years. The 34-year-old from Haliburton, Ontario, recorded 30 goals and 52 assists for 82 points in 82 games this past season. It marked the second time in his career he reached the 80-point mark, and the third time he scored 30 goals in a single season. He finished second in team scoring behind newly-acquired forward Mikko Rantanen. Live Events In the 2023-24 season, Duchene had tallied 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points, after inconsistent years with Nashville and the Ottawa Senators. In the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Duchene added one goal and five assists for six points. The Stars reached the Western Conference Final but were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers for the second consecutive year. Throughout his NHL career, Duchene has played 1,138 games, scoring 371 goals and adding 520 assists for 891 points. He has also contributed 37 points in 69 playoff appearances.
