Gamlins Law Directors Complete Mount Toubkal Charity Challenge
Gamlins Law's Dafydd Roberts and Ron Davison Two directors at North Wales' largest law firm have raised funds for charity after successfully climbing North Africa's highest peak. Ron Davison, Managing Director of Gamlins Law, and fellow director Dafydd Roberts scaled Mount Toubkal in Morocco's Atlas Mountains in aid of the firm's nominated charity partner St Kentigern Hospice. Combined with Ron's running of the London Marathon in April, it means the pair have now raised almost £2,000 for St Asaph-based St Kentigern. Ron and Dafydd were part of a 10-strong group that took on the climb to the 4,167m (13,671 ft) peak. Last year, they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania raising more than £3,500 for Prostate Cancer UK and LawCare, the mental health charity for the legal sector. Dafydd said: 'The whole trip was a great experience from spending time with the local Berber community through to the final ascent itself which saw us reach the summit an hour or so after sunrise. 'We encountered lots of different weather during the trip from really warm to ice and snow as we approached the summit to torrential rain and hailstones when we were coming down the mountain. Coping with the high altitude also provided a challenge. 'Experiencing life with the Berber community, with their villages set in the mountainside, was also something we won't forget, including an evening eating with our guide's family in their home. 'It was also humbling to see how the communities are continuing to rebuild after a devastating earthquake caused so much destruction a couple of years ago. 'Either side of the climb, we were fortunate to spend time in Marrakesh including a trip into the Sahara Desert.' Snowy conditions on Mount Toubkal Dafydd added: 'We are delighted to raise further vital funds towards the work of St Kentigern Hospice. The team at the hospice made a video for us wishing us good luck and that certainly helped to spur us on. 'We've got further climbs planned in the UK for later this year and are already plotting another trip abroad, possibly to the Alps or Himalayas next year.' The hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care to patients with life limiting illness, and support to their families across its catchment area of Denbighshire, West Flintshire, and East Conwy. Clinical services are delivered free of charge to patients and their families. The hospice, which includes a 12-bed inpatient unit, employs 95 staff, supported by a large team of volunteers. It costs over £4.4 million a year to run. Gamlins Law, which employs over 85 people, has its head office at Morfa Hall in Rhyl and further offices in Mold, Ruthin, Denbigh, Abergele and Holywell.

Directors prepare to climb North Africa's highest peak
The directors, Ron Davison and Dafydd Roberts, are from Gamlins Law and will be climbing Morocco's Mount Toubkal in aid of St Kentigern Hospice. The climb is expected to take five days, beginning on Wednesday, May 21. Mr Davison, managing director, and Mr Roberts, fellow director, will tackle the 4,167m (13,671 ft) peak alongside ten other climbers. For Mr Davison, this challenge comes hot on the heels of the London Marathon which he recently completed in aid of St Kentigern Hospice. Mr Davison said: "Until I started training for the marathon, I'd never even run a park run, so it was a pretty fast learning curve. "It was an incredible experience running the marathon, but also massively demanding. "My goal was to try and run or at least jog the whole distance and I'm delighted I was able to achieve that." He added that he was "just pleased" to finish the marathon in 5 hours and 47 minutes, given the conditions and the cramp. Mr Roberts has been preparing for the Mount Toubkal climb by tackling several mountains in recent weeks. This includes climbs up Yr Wyddfa via Crib Goch, Nantlle Ridge in Eryri (Snowdonia), and Elidir Fawr. Last September, the duo successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. This was in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and LawCare. Mr Roberts expressed his enthusiasm for the forthcoming challenge in North Africa. He said: "We're looking forward to getting out to Morocco and taking on the challenge of Toubkal. "It should be a fascinating experience with the climb due to last five days and staying in small guest houses with the local Berber community as well as a night in a mountain refuge before the final push for the summit." He also highlighted the extreme weather conditions with temperatures at the summit expected to be around -5 degrees Celsius. New Colour Run event at Gwrych Castle, Abergele, announced
St Kentigern Hospice has announced the Colour Run 2025 at Gwrych Castle as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations. The event, which is the first of its kind in the area, will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the castle, which was made famous as a filming location for ITV's I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! The event will see participants run, jog, dance, or walk through a course while being doused in bright powders. The route will be set against the backdrop of the castle and the surrounding scenery. The event will start at 11am, with registration opening at 10am. Tickets cost £20 for adults and £12 for children, with under 3s going free. All funds raised from the event will support the services provided by St Kentigern Hospice, which include specialist palliative care and support for patients and their loved ones across North East Wales. The event will also support the preservation and restoration work of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust. Courtney Harris, event organiser, said: "We are so excited to work with the team at Gwrych Castle and bring the Colour Run to North Wales. "What better way to celebrate St Kentigern Hospice's 30th anniversary than by teaming up with the team at Gwrych Castle for a day full of colour, laughter, and community spirit.
