Preliminary findings indicated that the team had been engaged in track maintenance and safety-related duties at the time of the incident. A team has been constituted to investigate the incident with the inquiry focusing on whether technical failures or procedural lapses contributed to the mishap. Senior railway officials are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby stations to reconstruct the events leading up to the collision, said officials from the Sonepur and Katihar divisions. Delhi Govt shortlists 75 ‘CM Shri Schools' — Here's what sets them apart

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said on June 19 that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the national capital has provisionally shortlisted schools for the 75 newly announced 'CM Shri Schools'. These schools are expected to become operational in the coming weeks, Sood said. "Most of the CM Shri Schools have been shortlisted. These schools will start functioning soon, and preparations to operationalise them are currently underway," Sood said. Sood said a number of existing government schools are being upgraded and developed into CM Shri Schools. The Directorate of Education has already initiated the recruitment process for teaching and leadership positions in these schools. The Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the national capital after 27 years by defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal in the assembly polls held in February this year. Remember, public school education has also been a focus of the previous AAP government in Delhi In a circular issued on June 5, the department invited applications from teachers, Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), Primary Teachers (PRTs), and other teaching staff, having at least five years before they retire. Another circular issued on June 10 opened applications for principals and vice-principals who wish to transfer to the new schools, with the same retirement conditions. The CM Shri Schools initiative is an education reform launched by the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government in its 2025–26 budget. It builds on the existing PM Shri model from the Centre. An official quoted by the news agency PTI said these upcoming schools are designed to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, operating as zero-waste and solar-powered campuses. "These schools will have AI-enabled libraries, smart classrooms equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) tools, smartboards, and biometric attendance systems," the official said. The schools will also feature robotics laboratories to foster interest in the field among students, he added. According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's Delhi Budget speech, a corpus of ₹ 100 crore has been allocated for setting up these schools. CM Shri schools are model government schools upgraded under a scheme similar to the Centre's PM Shri (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India), which aims to provide exemplary National Education Policy ‑ 2020 aligned education. The Delhi government initially announced 60 CM Shri schools in March 2025, with ₹ 100 crore allocated. Later, the number was raised to 75 schools, which were to be operational within a year. -The schools will undergo an infrastructure overhaul, including facilities for smart boards, AI tools, robotics, labs for science, computers, languages, and renovated classrooms. -The curriculum in these schools will be in accordance with NEP 2020. -The Directorate of Education has already initiated the recruitment process for teaching and leadership positions in these schools.

Do you floss your teeth properly? Doctor explains how it can lower heart disease risk

Flossing your teeth can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Dr Kunal Sood, an anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine physician, shared an Instagram post on June 19 in which he shared that research suggests that regular flossing can lower the risk of stroke and heart disease by reducing inflammation and preventing bacterial buildup in the mouth. Also read | Should you floss before or after brushing? Dentist shares what your ideal oral care routine should be In his caption, Dr Sood wrote, 'Can flossing reduce risk of heart disease? Share to help someone cut both gum and heart risk.' Saying how 'gums set off body-wide alarms', he said: 'Plaque trapped between teeth sparks gingivitis, letting Porphyromonas gingivalis and other microbes slip into the bloodstream. Those invaders crank up C-reactive protein (CRP) and IL-6 —the same inflammatory messengers that thicken arterial plaque and boost clotting risk.' Dr Sood added that 'flossing disrupts the oral-heart highway'. 'Adding floss to twice-daily brushing removes up to 80 percent of interdental plaque — far more than brushing alone. In a seven-year study of 40,000+ adults, flossing at least once a week was linked to: 22 percent lower ischemic-stroke risk, 44 percent lower cardio-embolic-stroke risk, and 12 percent lower atrial-fibrillation risk.' A post shared by Kunal Sood, MD (@doctorsoood) Explaining why frequency — and timing — matter, Dr Sood said, 'Every floss session breaks up biofilm before it inflames gum vessels. Even weekly flossing trims systemic inflammation, but daily use keeps the bacterial 'drip' shut off almost completely.' He also shared: 1. Floss daily (string, picks, or water-flosser); if that's tough, aim for several times per week — consistency beats perfection. 2. Brush twice daily and book professional cleanings every six months; scaling alone can drop CRP within weeks. 3. Spot warning signs — bleeding gums, chronic bad breath, looseness — then schedule a periodontal check-up. 4. Reinforce the win with cardio basics: quit smoking, manage blood sugar, move daily. The same habits that protect gums fortify arteries. Note to readers: This article is for informational purposes only and not a substitute for professional medical advice. Delhi home minister reviews preparations ahead of Kanwar Yatra

Delhi home minister Ashish Sood on Thursday held a meeting to review preparations for the Kanwar Yatra that begins next month. Sood said that Kanwar organising committees will be provided with all necessary administrative support at a single window system. 'A single-window system will be set up at the district magistrate offices to facilitate approvals and permissions from various departments in a streamlined manner. The safety, service, and convenience of hundreds of thousands of devotees entering Delhi during the yatra will be a top priority,' he added. The Kanwar Yatra is a religious tradition where millions of devotees collect water from the Ganga at Haridwar, Gangotri and other sacred places to offer at Shiva temples in the month of Savan. Every year, thousands of kanwars pass through Delhi en route to other states. Sood said all departments have been directed to ensure that pilgrims face no inconvenience on their designated routes. 'Arrangements related to sanitation, drinking water, uninterrupted electricity supply, and traffic management will be made in a timely, coordinated, and effective manner. We have instructed power department officials to ensure that any issues related to electricity disruptions or leakage risks during rains are addressed promptly during the Yatra days,' he added. The meeting was held with representatives of the fire services department, police, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, power department and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Sood also directed police to monitor sound systems in camps located near residential areas and ensure that devotional songs played over loudspeakers are limited to permitted hours to avoid disturbing local residents. Police personnel have been asked to politely request pilgrims to avoid playing loud music late at night. Coordination with police forces of neighbouring states has also been advised to ensure the safety and welfare of pilgrims. The Delhi Fire Services has been asked to prepare a plan for deploying small fire tenders near Kanwar camps to respond quickly in case of fire-related emergencies and prevent any mishaps.
