Perkeso: Job seekers urged to consider opportunities beyond their home states
KANGAR: Job seekers have been urged to be more open to challenges, by considering employment opportunities beyond their home states, rather than limiting themselves to local job options. The Social Security Organisation's (Perkeso) Employment Insurance System (SIP) Office head, Datuk Asri Ab Rahman, said that job seekers should adopt a more flexible mindset, and be willing to accept suitable job offers, even if they are located in other states, as long as the positions offer long-term prospects and stability. 'Sometimes, job mismatches occur, not due to a lack of opportunities, but because candidates are unwilling to relocate. However, such cases are relatively isolated and tend to occur only in specific states,' he told reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the MYFutureJobs Career, Education & Entrepreneurship Carnival - Perlis 2025, here today. The two-day career carnival, which began today, was launched by Perlis State Secretary Datuk Rahimi Ismail. Meanwhile, Perkeso, in a statement, said that a total of 74,576 job seekers nationwide have successfully secured employment through placement programmes conducted in collaboration with various stakeholders. 'This achievement not only demonstrates the commitment of all involved in enhancing employment opportunities, but also offers new hope for job seekers to build a better future, through ongoing collaborative efforts,' it said. It also noted that between January and June 13, Perlis Perkeso organised 33 open interview programmes, resulting in 522 individuals successfully securing new employment. It added that a total of 14 individuals received Perkeso benefits, amounting to RM239,732.90, in conjunction with the carnival's opening ceremony today. The benefits were provided under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and the Self-Employed Social Security Act 2017 (Act 789), covering various categories, including temporary disability benefit, permanent disability benefit, Survivors' Pension, and Invalidity Pension.

ScaT Fair returns to Kuching with over 1,500 job openings, engaging new programmes

The state's largest annual education and career fair has attracted over 50 exhibitors, including companies, public and private higher education institutions, financial aid providers, technical schools, and government departments and agencies, said Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn. The Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister said this year's SCaT Fair, with strong support from Social Security Organisation (Socso) in managing industry participation, will feature walk-in interview sessions for job seekers. 'A total of 1,561 job vacancies across various sectors, including construction, manufacturing and more, will be offered,' he told a press conference at BCCK here today. Sagah said Socso will also organise a Career Exploration Session aimed at empowering future job seekers, especially students, to develop clear career pathways and understand the evolving demands of the job market. He said SCaT Fair will serve as a one-stop centre for students, youth, parents and the community at large, to provide comprehensive information on education and career opportunities, as well as details on educational financial aid available from participating agencies. He added that the fair also aims to enhance the employability and marketability of graduates and youth, as well as empower them to make informed decisions about their futures and nurture interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among schoolchildren. 'New to this year's fair is the Oil & Gas Zone, managed by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), which will highlight the participation of Petronas, ENEOS Xplora, PTTEP, Mubadala, Brooke Dockyard, Petra Energy and many more,' he emphasised. In addition to employment opportunities, Sagah said the fair will also feature a series of exciting concurrent side programmes, namely the Sarawak Initiative Information Wall, Sarawak Mega Quizzes Challenges, STEM Playground, Skills Master Competition, Sarawak Blockchain & Crypto Day 2025, Sarawak Rocketeer CAN-SAT Challenge, Planetarium Sultan Iskandar (PSI) Dome, Kid's Fun Zone, Youth Icon Speaker Corner and SCaT Kamboh Stage. He encouraged all Sarawakians to participate in the various events and exhibitions at the upcoming SCaT Fair 2025. M'sian woman gets RM8.9K PERKESO claim in just 3 days
A Malaysian woman who fractured her foot while on the way to work recently shared how she managed to receive her PERKESO (SOCSO) claim within just three days. @mikaylamajla said in a Threads post that she submitted her documents on 10 June this year and successfully received a claim from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) amounting to RM8,944. Mikayla explained that she had fractured her foot after falling into a drain while dropping off her child at school. At the hospital, doctors informed her that she had sustained fractures in seven different areas and was given two months of hospitalisation leave. That was when she decided to apply for compensation under PERKESO's 'temporary disablement' benefit. She added that she was eligible for the claim even though the incident happened while she was sending her child to school, explaining that she is a single mother. 'If any of you get into an accident on the way to the office, on the way back home from work, or even during working hours and end up in hospital or receive medical leave (MC) for more than seven days, you are eligible to claim temporary disablement benefits. This is your right,' Mikayla said. She advised that after an accident, one should first visit a clinic to get checked, then request a referral letter to a hospital. A specialist at the hospital will then treat the injury and issue a medical certificate (MC). Mikayla stressed the importance of obtaining the MC, as it helps expedite the PERKESO claim process. She also listed the required documents, highlighting that they must be submitted within three months from the date of the accident. According to Mikayla, the necessary documents include: - Form 34 - A copy of your national identification card (IC) - The original MC (make sure to obtain two original copies from your doctor) - Payslips for six months from the date of the accident - An attendance record for the month of the accident - A bank statement (from a local bank only) - A police report from a police station near the accident site - A sketch map clearly showing the route from your home to your workplace Mikayla submitted all the documents to her company's human resources (HR) department and highlighted that the Form 34 must be signed by HR before being submitted to PERKESO. She mentioned that while it is possible to send the documents to PERKESO via email, she chose to submit them in person to ensure a smoother process. 'After speaking to my family and friends, I realised that many of them who were involved in accidents during their work commute didn't know they could claim from PERKESO. That's quite sad. 'Please remember your rights as a PERKESO member,' Mikayla emphasised in her Threads post.
