Foundation stone for Sidco golden jubilee building to be laid today
Thiruvananthapuram: The foundation stone for the golden jubilee building of Kerala Sidco (Small Industries Development Corporation) will be laid at 3.30pm on Wednesday at the Pappanamcode Industrial Estate.
The event, to be inaugurated by industries minister P Rajeeve, will be attended by general education and labour minister V Sivankutty and food and civil supplies minister G R Anil.
According to Sidco chairman C P Murali, the new building is being developed to enhance facilities for entrepreneurs, with plans for a marketing support centre, access to raw materials, grievance redressal for estate entrepreneurs and exhibition-cum-sales space for products.
An integrated online platform will also be planned as part of the project.
The building, spanning 7,200 sq ft across two floors and costing Rs 2.06 crore, will be constructed in front of the existing Sidco pressure die casting unit without disrupting its functioning. Other units, the instrument workshop and woodworking unit, will also remain fully functional, confirmed Sidco managing director R. Jayashankar.
He also announced that a Rs 85 lakh road development project for the industrial estate, approved by the working group, was expected to begin later this year.
Currently, 94 units, including Sidco's three production units, operate in the estate. Of these, 82 are running smoothly, while four new units are being set up, three are under construction and five remain inactive due to legal or administrative issues.
Sidco chairman will welcome the gathering and the managing director will do a project report presentation during the event. Shashi Tharoor, MP, mayor Arya Rajendran and top officials from the industries department and Sidco are expected to attend the event.
The Pappanamcode unit has achieved a turnover of over Rs 200 crore for the third consecutive year.
