Sky Glass Air is a new way to watch TV and its super low price may surprise you

Good news for anyone looking for an inexpensive 4K TV as the new Sky Glass Air television has just arrived in Ireland and the price might surprise you. This latest screen was first announced way back in February when the firm unveiled its highly-rated Sky Glass Gen 2 flagship TV. The new Sky Glass Air is slimmer and more affordable. So how much is it going to cost you and what do you get for your money? We've got all the info you need to know… On contract, Sky Glass Air prices will start from just €8 per month for the 43in model and it's also available in 55in and 65in sizes for €12.50 and €15.50 respectively. You pay that on an interest-free deal over 48 months. For that money, you get a pixel-packed 4K HDR Quantum Dot display, a slim and sleek design with barely-there bezels and top notch Dolby audio to help improve the sound of those nightly box set binges. To help it blend into your home, Sky Glass Air comes in three colours, which are dubbed Sea Green, Carbon Grey and Cotton White. One huge bonus of switching to a Sky Glass TV is that you don't need a satellite dish stuck to your home's exterior walls. Instead, all your content is beamed to your big Glass screen using an internet connection. Along with full live channels plus and on-demand content, Sky Glass Air also has full access to all the most popular streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+. Thanks to the firm's impressive in-built Sky OS operating system, you also get personalised recommendations for each member of the family and a Playlists option where you can store things to watch at a later date. The user interface on Sky's platform is superb, fast and fluid in everyday use. And with hands-free voice control, simply say 'Hello Sky…' to turn on the TV, search for shows or genres from Sky and apps, adjust volume, add to Playlist and much more. You might be thinking that €8 sounds too good to be true. Of course, that low Sky Glass Air price doesn't include any premium channels such as Sky Sports or Sky Cinema and the more you add on, the bigger your bill will obviously get. But Sky's top value Essential TV option costs just €18, bringing your total monthly bill to €26. You can also upgrade to Sky Ultimate TV for an extra €7 per month, unlocking even more channels including Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, Sky History and Sky Showcase. And if you don't fancy a contract, the good news is you can also opt to pay for Sky Glass Air upfront, all in one go. Upfront pricing starts from just €419 for the 43in screen with things rising to €779 for the 65in model. Speaking about the launch, Caroline Donnellan, Marketing and Brand Director of Sky TV & NOW, said: 'With the launch of Sky Glass Air, we're bringing the Sky TV experience to even more households in Ireland. Combining an elegant design, superb picture quality and rich sound from just €8 a month, Sky Glass Air is our smarter TV for a smarter price. 'It's about giving our customers their favourite content with greater flexibility, without compromising on the quality our customers expect from Sky." Sky Glass Air is available to buy at Sky stores and using Sky's call centres. It will also be on sale in Currys stores later this month.

Sky's new Glass TV upgrade now available to buy for much cheaper price

The Sky Glass Air smart TV is now available to buy in the UK, with shoppers able to get their hands on the sleek smart TV with Sky built in from £6 per month Sky has launched a brand-new model of its TV lineup as the Sky Glass Air hits the shelves. Announced earlier this month, it's the latest version of Sky's own smart TV with Sky and streaming apps built in. With prices starting at £6 per month, the Sky Glass Air is designed as a slimmer and more affordable version of the Sky Glass Gen 2, which starts at £14. But despite its cheaper price, the Air still boasts a 'vibrant' 4K HDR Quantum Dot screen and Dolby Audio speaker system. Other key features include hands-free voice control, intelligent and personalised recommendations and an easy plug-in-and-play setup. Sky Glass delivers TV and streaming services through WiFi, eliminating the need for a satellite dish or Sky box. Announcing the new TV, Carli Kerr, MD of Sky TV and NOW, said: 'With Sky Glass Air, we're bringing the Sky experience to more people through a beautifully designed TV with stunning picture quality from £6 a month. It's all about giving people better for less: more choice, great tech and the content they love, without compromising on quality.' Sky Glass Air is available for £6 when paired with a Sky TV package such as the £15 Essential TV bundle. As well as more than 100 channels, this includes free subscriptions to both Netflix and Discovery+, with Sky Cinema and Sky Sports available for £10 and £20 respectively. Shoppers can pick up the Sky Glass Air with its 'sleek design [and] slim frame' in three sizes, 43', 55' and 65'. There's also a choice of colours including Sea Green, Carbon Grey and Cotton White. For those preferring to buy their TV outright, the Sky Glass Air can be purchased for £309. Alternatively, Amazon has just cut £150 off its 43' Fire TV 4-Series, now £279.99, while Samsung is offering 10% off its higher-end QLED and Crystal UHD TVs, like this 50' QLED Q7F2 at £539.10. But for those sticking with the Sky Glass Air, the tech experts at What Hi-Fi, have given it a thumbs up in their early review. They said: 'Sky Glass Air seems pretty respectable for the price, with a detailed and colourful image that can deliver punch when required. 'The biggest draw is Sky OS and its long list of features. The ability to access shows and add them to a system-wide playlist regardless of the service they are hosted on remains a fan favourite, while the voice interaction system is robust.' However, they also noted a potential flaw in the sound, adding: 'It's a noticeable downgrade, with the TV delivering a thinner and less atmospheric sound overall, but it does a solid job of prioritising clear vocals. 'Overall, the Glass Air seems to make a strong case for itself, especially with the price in mind. It's a cheaper Sky Glass that retains the Sky experience at its core, and cuts back on a few of the more premium features offered by the Glass Gen 2.'

Sky Glass Air is an absolute steal – but here's why it's not for your living room

Having given us a preview a few months back at the Sky Glass Gen 2 event, Sky UK has now revealed pricing and a launch date for its cheaper Glass Air streaming 4K TV and it's great value on subscription. Sky Glass Air will cost between £6 and £13 per month depending on size on a 48 month deal, though it's also available on a shorter term offer, too (check out the full pricing below). Available from Tuesday 10 June, it doesn't have the upgraded screen from the Gen 2 and it also trades in the excellent Dolby Atmos soundbar, too, replacing it with much more standard Dolby Audio-enhanced Glass Air is available in three colours – Sea Green, Carbon Grey, and Cotton White – and three sizes, 43, 55, and 65in. In my opinion, it's a Sky Glass for a second room – like a bedroom or playroom – rather than a main living room TV, It seems very well designed and put together, but I haven't been that impressed by the 4K HDR Quantum Dot display both times I've seen it in the flesh including at Sky's HQ a few weeks ago. Sky Glass Gen 2 is much brighter and with far greater contrast (check out my Sky Glass Gen 2 review). But there is a big price difference between Glass Air and Glass Gen 2. After all, Sky's more upmarket streaming TV costs over double a month what the Sky Glass Air does, starting at £14 per month. Sky Glass Air does a bright display, but the contrast isn't that great. The audio quality is also only just about OK. Sky said at the Sky Glass Gen 2 launch that 80% of TV buyers don't pair new TVs with an additional sound system. Although I feel quite confident in making the points about the display having seen various sizes twice in different locations, I'll reserve full judgement until I've had the chance to review it. Sky has repeatedly said it is targeting people who want a value QLED option over and above those who want to go and buy a premium Mini LED or OLED TV (and pair it with Sky Stream or Sky Q). So Sky Glass Air is unashamedly designed to be a much cheaper way to get Sky Glass – though you need to add a TV subscription on top of that from £15 a month for Sky Essential including Netflix and Discovery+ (so from £21 a month in total). As with all Sky deals, adding extra channels like Sky Sports, TNT Sports or Sky Cinema will cost more on top. Sky Glass Air offers all the same software features as Sky Glass Gen 2 and Sky Stream, including the voice remote. Buying Sky Glass Air outright isn't the best value you can get, but you're buying the Sky experience of course, with its easy-to-use operating system and ability to stream all your TV via Wi-Fi and add your programmes to a playlist for easy recall. For example, competitors for the £509 55in model include Amazon's Omni QLED TV and various TCL's QLED options from the last couple of years. There are a lot of competitors around this price. Sky has now also added 30 new rows of content to the Sky OS homescreen, learning what you like to watch and curating collections of the best entertainment based on your viewing habits. Plus there are new 'rails' (as Sky calls them) for genres, too. Sky Glass Air full pricing Size Buy outright 48 month subscription 24 month subscription 43in £309 £6 £12 55in £509 £10 £20 65in £649 £13 £26

Beyond the Hype: Sky Glass Gen 2 (2025)

The Sky Glass Gen 2 TV seeks to elevate home entertainment with its integrated streaming capabilities, enhanced visual performance, and immersive audio system. While it introduces notable improvements over its predecessor, it continues to face challenges in specific areas, particularly for gamers and users with inconsistent Wi-Fi connections. The video below from Tech Spurt provides more insights into its design, performance, and features to help you determine whether it aligns with your entertainment needs. Watch this video on YouTube. Design and Build The Sky Glass Gen 2 TV is available in three sizes—43″, 55″, and 65″—and offers a choice of three colors: black, silver, and blue. Its design emphasizes functionality, featuring a flush back that makes it compatible with wall mounting for a streamlined, modern aesthetic. However, the overall build feels slightly bulky, and the bundled stand, while practical, lacks the sturdiness expected from a premium device. The design prioritizes practicality but could benefit from a more refined finish to match its price point. The TV's minimalist approach to aesthetics ensures it blends well into most living spaces, but its weight and thickness may pose challenges for some users during installation. Despite these minor drawbacks, the design remains a strong point for those seeking a straightforward and adaptable setup. Ports and Connectivity The Sky Glass Gen 2 TV is equipped with a variety of ports to accommodate different connectivity needs: Three HDMI ports, including one with eARC for enhanced audio return USB Type-C and Type-A ports for peripheral devices An aerial port for traditional broadcast connections Ethernet connectivity for stable internet access These options provide flexibility for connecting external devices, such as gaming consoles or sound systems. However, the TV's streaming-first design minimizes the reliance on additional hardware. A notable drawback is the persistence of Wi-Fi connectivity issues from the first-generation model, which can lead to buffering or interruptions during streaming. For a more reliable experience, using a wired Ethernet connection is strongly recommended. Display Performance The 4K Quantum Dot display is a standout feature of the Sky Glass Gen 2, delivering vibrant and lifelike visuals. It supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and other HDR formats, making sure rich colors, sharp details, and improved contrast. The enhanced LED backlighting produces brighter whites and deeper blacks, making it suitable for a wide range of content, from movies to sports. However, the display's auto mode occasionally dims scenes excessively, requiring manual adjustments in modes like 'Vivid' to achieve optimal clarity. Additionally, the reflective screen can be distracting in darker scenes, particularly in rooms with significant ambient light. Despite these minor shortcomings, the display performance is impressive for most users, offering a cinematic viewing experience. Audio Capabilities Audio performance is another area where the Sky Glass Gen 2 excels. The TV features seven built-in speakers, including a soundbar and top-firing speakers, delivering immersive Dolby Atmos sound. This setup is particularly effective in small to medium-sized rooms, providing clear and balanced audio that enhances the overall viewing experience. The inclusion of a vocal enhancement mode ensures that dialogue remains crisp and intelligible, even at lower volumes. For users who prioritize audio quality, the Sky Glass Gen 2 offers a compelling solution without the need for additional sound equipment. While it may not replace a dedicated home theater system, its built-in audio capabilities are more than sufficient for everyday use. Software and Usability The SkyOS platform powers the Sky Glass Gen 2, offering a smooth and intuitive user interface. It supports all major streaming apps, including Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video, as well as niche platforms like Crunchyroll. The 'Continue Watching' feature integrates content from multiple services, allowing for seamless transitions between shows and movies. Additional features enhance usability: Voice controls for hands-free operation Motion detection to automatically adjust settings A 'Find My Remote' function for added convenience However, the software's tendency to recommend content from services you don't subscribe to can detract from the experience. While this issue doesn't significantly impact usability, it may frustrate users who prefer a more tailored interface. Gaming Limitations For gamers, the Sky Glass Gen 2 presents some limitations. It lacks a 120Hz refresh rate and gaming-specific features such as automatic input switching or variable refresh rate (VRR) support. These omissions make it less suitable for competitive or high-performance gaming, though it remains adequate for casual gamers who prioritize streaming over gaming. The absence of advanced gaming features places the Sky Glass Gen 2 at a disadvantage compared to other TVs in its price range. Serious gamers may find better options elsewhere, particularly if they require a display optimized for next-generation consoles. Performance and Stability The overall performance of the Sky Glass Gen 2 is reliable, with smooth streaming and responsive navigation. However, occasional buffering and freezing can occur, especially when relying on Wi-Fi. These issues are less frequent when using a wired Ethernet connection, which is recommended for users with high streaming demands. While these performance hiccups are not deal-breakers, they highlight areas where the device could improve in future iterations. Stability and connectivity remain critical factors for a seamless streaming experience, and addressing these issues would significantly enhance the TV's appeal. Looking Ahead: Sky Glass Air Sky has announced plans to release the Sky Glass Air in 2025, a more affordable alternative to the Gen 2 model. This upcoming device will feature scaled-back display and audio capabilities while retaining the SkyOS platform. It is designed for users who prioritize affordability and streaming functionality over premium features, making it an intriguing option for budget-conscious buyers. The Sky Glass Air represents Sky's commitment to expanding its product lineup, catering to a broader audience with varying needs and preferences. While details remain limited, its introduction could further solidify Sky's position in the streaming TV market. Final Thoughts The Sky Glass Gen 2 TV offers a well-rounded package for streaming enthusiasts, combining vibrant visuals, immersive audio, and a user-friendly interface. Its design and software features make it an attractive choice for those seeking an all-in-one entertainment solution. However, its limitations in gaming capabilities and ongoing connectivity issues may deter some potential buyers. For users who prioritize streaming and audio quality, the Sky Glass Gen 2 is a strong contender. By weighing its strengths and weaknesses against your specific needs, you can determine whether this device aligns with your expectations for home entertainment.
