BREAKING NEWS Florian Wirtz 'completes the first part of his Liverpool medical' after jetting out to the UK ahead of £116MILLION record-breaking switch
Florian Wirtz has reportedly completed the first part of his Liverpool medical ahead of his sensational British record £116million move to Anfield. Wirtz flew out from Cologne before landing at Manchester Airport on Thursday afternoon and will become the Reds' second major signing of the summer after Jeremie Frimpong also arrived from Bayer Leverkusen. According to Sky Germany, the first round of his medical checks proceeded without a hitch while the second half will take place on Friday. The playmaker will then officially put pen to paper on an expected five-year contract. The developments mean Liverpool are edging closer to pulling off the coup after beating Bayern Munich and Manchester City to the talented 22-year-old. Wirtz is set to command a fee worth £116m, with a £100m base fee guaranteed. Hier landet Florian #Wirtz um 16:42 Uhr englischer Zeit in Manchester, um noch heute Abend im benachbarten Liverpool seinen Medizincheck zu starten! @SkySportDE ist für euch vor Ort! @SkySportsPL #LFC #B04 — Marlon Irlbacher (@Sky_Marlon89) June 19, 2025 He had arrived at Cologne Bonn Airport on Thursday morning before jetting out to the UK The combined fee will see him become the most expensive British transfer in history, taking the honour from Chelsea 's Moises Caicedo, a former Liverpool target. Wirtz will now link up with former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Frimpong. Wirtz and Frimpong - who completed his own move to Liverpool earlier this month - shared a photo of themselves on a boat off the coast of Montenegro this week. They are likely to be linking up on the pitch soon after enjoying plenty of success together in Germany. The duo won a domestic double under Xabi Alonso in 2023-24, before adding the German Super Cup to their collection last season. Wirtz will be by his side shortly, barring any unforeseen setbacks. Leverkusen initially played hardball when Liverpool first made an approach for Wirtz. Indeed, Liverpool had substantial bids of around £100m and £110m knocked back, but eventually reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side. The Reds are also set to wrap up a deal to sign Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez. The defender's father - and agent - Sebastijan has claimed that a move is a 'done deal', despite the Cherries driving a hard bargain at the negotiating table. Bournemouth are believed to be holding out for £45m, but Sebastijan was adamant that save for a few minor details, his son will head to Anfield. 'It's only Liverpool for us and we're not going anywhere else and we won't talk to other clubs,' sadi Sebastijan. 'Everything is done between us (personal terms) we just need to sort out some details but it's basically a done deal.'

Fabrizio Romano confirms Florian Wirtz reports were WRONG
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed some facts about Florian Wirtz's move to Liverpool. Initial reports were wide of the mark. Liverpool will complete a deal for Florian Wirtz within the next 48 hours. That much seems absolutely clear. Advertisement The Reds have stormed to the front of the queue for the German playmaker, despite no one really giving them a chance a month ago. Wirtz was destined for Bayern Munich, unless Manchester City made a mega-money bid. And yet it's Liverpool who have made the latter happen. They're set to smash their transfer record to sign Wirtz, while there's potential here for the British transfer record to go, too. However, it's also true that Liverpool aren't spending quite as much here as people think. Initial reports were off - as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Florian Wirtz's wages It was reported last week by Sky Germany that Wirtz would earn around £300k per week before bonuses at Anfield. A massive wage for a huge talent, it seemed. Advertisement Now, Anfield Watch said at the time that we weren't certain on that figure. We'd heard it was closer to £180k per week before bonuses. Now Romano has weighed in on the money being spent here. He claims 'in the region of £200k per week plus bonuses'. He also makes a point to mention that previous reports suggesting a higher wage are 'not confirmed' as it wouldn't fit Liverpool's wage structure. That structure is about heavily incentivised contracts that reward performances, rather than a massive starting salary. Liverpool, then, aren't quite spending the massive amount initially suggested. In fact, they're getting a very good deal on Wirtz - we imagined he would get around £300k per week given the club needed to see off other clubs. Per Capology, this initial wage wouldn't actually place Wirtz in the top 20 for the Premier League. He'll earn roughly what Wesley Fofana does at Chelsea and less than Raheem Sterling.

Eintracht Frankfurt in negotiations for Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt
Sky Germany reports that Eintracht Frankfurt have entered negotiations with Mainz over striker Jonathan Burkardt. Previously, it was reported that Frankfurt had reached an agreement with Burkardt over a move across the the Rhein. The 24-year-old will sign a contract at the club until 2030. Advertisement Now, die Adler must reach an agreement with Mainz over a fee. Frankfurt values Burkardt at around €20m, but die 05ers want more. Part of the reason behind this, reports Bild, is the fact that Burkardt himself will receive part of the transfer fee once the move is completed. Once the Darmstadt native has moved to Deutsche Bank Park, he can either be used alongside Hugo Ekitiké or he can act as a replacement for the Frenchman in the event that he leaves the club this summer amid interest from the Premier League. Burkardt helped Mainz qualify for the UEFA Conference League this season as they finished seventh in the Bundesliga. The 24-year-old ended the year with 18 goals and two assists, making him the top scoring German in the league, and he was able to play his way into the German national team. GGFN | Jack Meenan
