Race Across the World stars Sioned and Fin share relationship update after almost calling it quits The winners of this year's Race Across the World were announced last week, with mother-and-son duo Caroline and Tom Bridge taking home the £20,000 prize Last week, viewers of Race Across the World were gripped as the finale revealed this year's winning team. Although they didn't start strong, Caroline and Tom Bridge turned their fates around, ultimately seizing the £20,000 jackpot. Hot on their heels, only 19 minutes later, were siblings Elizabeth and Letitia, with the pair Sioned and Fin coming next, and brothers Brian and Melvyn coming in fourth. Audiences have been witness to all the pairs being pushed to their limits throughout the races, with Sioned and Fin, the youngest duo, finding aspects of the journey particularly difficult. In the upcoming reunion show, the Welsh couple will share updates on their relationship and recount their experiences from the race, reports Plymouth Live. But she expressed her relief, saying, "But, I'm really glad I just stuck it out because experiencing it has been really valuable." Article continues below During a discussion with fellow racers, the now 20-year-old shared how the challenge had fostered personal growth. She said: "It's built us as people. It's tough doing something like this in a relationship, but I do think it made us stronger." Fin responded: "It was a good way to see if we can do it forever, or this isn't for us, let's split up. But that wasn't the case, we are still together, and we're going well. I think that was a big challenge and the best challenge we could've had together." While Sioned and Fin may not have triumphed in the series, viewers were happy to see the mother-son duo take the win. Race Across the World stars Sioned and Fin were the youngest contestants on this year's series and they struggled through some parts of the show as a couple Race Across the World came to a nailbiting finish last week as the winners of this year's series were crowned. Mother and son duo Caroline and Tom Bridge came out on top, beating the other three teams and taking home the £20,000 prize. Despite a slow beginning and almost being knocked out of the competition before Yin and Gaz were sent packing, their luck changed as the race went on and they were the first ones to open that book at the final checkpoint in Kanyakumari, India. Hot on their heels were sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, who finished just 19 minutes behind them in second place on the BBC show. They were followed by young couple Sioned and Fin and finally, by brothers Brian and Melvyn who had secured a strong lead in the race but fell behind in the final two legs. Throughout the race, viewers saw each duo have their limits tested to the max, with teenage couple, Sioned and Fin, who were the youngest on the race, finding certain legs of the race very challenging. In this week's Race Across the World reunion episode, the Welsh couple gave an update on their relationship status now as they detailed their time on the show, Plymouth Live reports. Sioned said: "I think there were many times in India where I thought, 'I can't do this, I need to go home, not want to but I need to because this is too much'. "But, I'm really glad I just stuck it out because experiencing it has been really valuable." While at the table with the other contestants from the series, the now 20 year old said that taking part in the show has built her character. She said: "It's built us as people. It's tough doing something like this in a relationship, but I do think it made us stronger." Fin added: "It was a good way to see if we can do it forever, or this isn't for us, let's split up. The popular BBC show came to a tense conclusion last week, with mother-and-son team Caroline and Tom Bridge coming in first place and scooping the £20,000 prize. Sioned, 20, joined the show alongside her partner, Fin, with the couple being the youngest participants to take part in the hit travel competition. The BBC star confessed 'coming home to Wales was a bit of a shock to the system', while Fin said he 'missed everything about the race', especially the 'suspense of not knowing where you're going to go next'. The young couple finished in third place. As the show has come to its gripping conclusion, instead of a nail-biting racing episode, this week's final instalment offered viewers a reunion among the players, with each duo reflecting on their experiences. For all the competing teams, many parts of the race proved to be difficult and emotionally taxing - and this was no different for Sioned and Fin. During the reunion episode, Sioned revealed there were times she didn't think she'd be able to carry on. She said: 'I think there were many times in India where I thought, 'I can't do this, I need to go home, not want to but I need to because this is too much'. In another update, posted on Instagram, Sioned offered further insight into her thoughts on her Race Across the World experience, as well as behind the scenes insight after reuniting with her fellow contestants Sioned described them all as being 'bonded for life'. Who knew Race Across The World would result in SO MANY positives!? 'Not only positives for myself and my own journey, but positives for mine and Fin's relationship, positives in regards to sharing memories with strangers who have ultimately became our best friends and also positives when [it] comes to all of you watching!?' She then went on to thank viewers for all the 'kind messages' they 'received along the way', as well as the many 'kind words' that have been said to the couple 'in public'. Sioned branded the response as 'insane' while praising the 'whole process' of taking part in Race Across the World as 'so rewarding and so valuable'. The 20-year-old highlighted how important it was for her to have potentially helped many people who, like her, 'struggle with confidence' which may have stopped them from 'reaching goals or achieving things you desperately want to'. Fin was open about his Type 1 diabetes throughout their journey, and the couple were glad to have raised awareness of the condition. In the comments section, people shared their thoughts. One person declared: 'I love this program but what a great group you clearly are. 'A life changing experience for everyone one of you. You are all winners. Race Across the World's Welsh star, Sioned Cray, shared a heartfelt post on social media following the fifth series' final episode. Sioned, who competed with her boyfriend Fin Gough, were the youngest contestants to take part in the BBC travel programme. On Instagram, Sioned said she "had no idea" how much a challenge the race would be, but described it as an "amazing opportunity". The couple came third in the race, with mother and son duo Caroline and Tom coming in first place, sisters Elizabeth and Letitia in second and brothers Brian and Melvyn in fourth place. After travelling through China and Nepal, all four teams were hoping to reach the final checkpoint in the southernmost tip of India, Kanyakumari, first and claim a cash prize of £20,000. The teams travelled through seven checkpoints before reaching the final one, without phones, flights or bank cards and only a tight budget of £1,140 per person, a map, public transport and each other to depend on. Welsh couple Fin and Sioned had seen their fair share of challenges along the way, including homesickness and catching up with the other teams when they were hours behind. In an Instagram post following the final episode, which was aired on Wednesday evening (June 11), Sioned shared her thoughts on the journey she had embarked on in the programme. Article continues below Content cannot be displayed without consent With a collection of photos from their travels, she wrote: "From the moment we set off, Fin and I had no idea just how much this race would challenge us, change us and bring us closer together. "We've crossed countries, faced setbacks, ran for buses (too many times), and soaked in moments I'll never forget. "From the laughs to the tears, every mile has meant something. "This was THE most amazing opportunity I've ever had and to be honest I don't think I can ever top it! "We've literally been able to see parts of the world I never dreamed I'd visit! What a wild, emotional, unforgettable ride. "We've experienced so many new things and we met so many amazing people of different cultures and backgrounds. "It was such a valuable experience and I cannot express how grateful I actually am to have been able to be a part of it!" She continued: "But what really stayed with me were the strangers who became lifelines, the people who helped us without hesitation, offered directions, a meal, or just any information when we needed it most. "I've made some lifelong friends in the team and cast, as well as learned so much more about myself and what I can accomplish. "On top of that I now know that any ups and downs me and Fin will face we can obviously overcome it because we completed Race Across the World together successfully (with a few bickers)!!" She concluded with: "I cannot recommend travelling this way more to anyone! The Carmarthenshire couple are the youngest participants to take part in the BBC travel programme, and alongside the other teams, they have travelled through China, Nepal and are now in India as they head to the southernmost tip of the country - Kanyakumari. The young couple have seen their fair share of obstacles, as well as highs and lows along the way, but the pair are seemingly determined to make it to the finishing line first and win the cash prize of £20,000. Ahead of Wednesday evening's final episode of the series, we've taken a closer look at the couple - who they are, where they are from, how they have overcome issues and their journey so far. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . Who are they? As mentioned, Fin and Sioned, who are 18 and 19 years old, are the youngest ever contestants on the show. Speaking ahead of the first episode's airing, Sioned said: "I wanted to travel anyway, so it's a great start for that, but along with discovering more about myself and Fin, just strengthening that bond in a very real and authentic way. "We've not really been together just the two of us before so this is something where we will have to rely and depend on each other, we don't have another choice. Article continues below "A lot about self-discovery I think as well as seeing more of the world in the process." Fin added: "It's a way to see if me and her can be together basically, if it can work forever. A challenge to see if it will make or break us." You can read more of the interview here. Fin and Sioned are the youngest contestants on BBC's Race Across the World (Image: BBC ) The couple are childhood sweethearts and have been together for four and a half years. They originally entered the competition after Sioned's mother suggested that she take part in the competition with her brother, although in the end she decided to take her boyfriend instead. She said: "They love the show themselves and they're very sad to see me go, but they know it's an insane opportunity and want me to really go for it." Where are they from? The couple are from Nantgaredig in Carmarthenshire. It is evident that the two are very proud of their background and even discussed missing home during the series. On a beautiful beach in Zhuhai, a city located on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong in China, during the second episode, the two began talking about Wales, specifically about the "beautiful beaches" of home near St David's and Barafundle Bay. Sioned and her boyfriend Fin were sat on a beautiful beach in Zhuhai as the couple began to reflect on their journey and how they felt about home (Image: BBC ) While the two spoke about the calamity of their travels, Fin said: "Where me and Sioned are from, our local train station only has two platforms. Even then, we still have to ask someone which platform it is. "So to be in a train station where there's 24 platforms, it's in Mandarin, it's absolutely unbelievably hard for us." Sioned later added: "I like going to beaches and stuff when I'm home. It's just like quite nice for me to just be able to just stop for a minute and have that, like home feeling maybe." Fin then asked her: "How are you feeling about not being like not being able to speak to your mum?" Sioned became emotional as she discussed her homesickness (Image: BBC ) To which Sioned began to cry. Later, Fin asked her: "What is it that you miss?" In response, she said: "That familiarity, I like to have that. I don't like being away from everyone we know and basically just having each other." Fin then asked: "Do you regret it?" To which Sioned replied: "No, I know I need to do it." But then Sioned seemed to have a change of heart about her homesickness and realised where she really wanted to be. She later said: "It's speaking and thinking about home, I don't like it, because I know like, as much as I feel like I want to be home now, I definitely don't. "If I was home, I would want to be here. Just trying to adapt to China, trying to adapt to a language, adapt to the people. Trying to build up my confidence to be a bit more risky." Fin's medical issues While the two may be young, they have evidently been through a lot - not just on the race, but in their personal lives too. In a candid moment in the sixth episode, Fin opened up about his tough childhood with type one diabetes and then explained what doctors found in his head. It had been a tough start in their first leg of the race in India, with Fin and Sioned lagging behind in the competition. While Sioned found the hustle and bustle of the country quite stressful, Fin was continuously supportive through the journey. Sioned said: "He's the most resilient person I know and I don't think he understands like, how much he has has actually gone through." Fin broke down in tears as he discussed his tough childhood growing up with type one diabetes. (Image: BBC/Studio Lambert ) Fin explained: "There are bits in India which I find hard, but if Sioned finds it hard, I just try and stay positive, and I do definitely think I'm a little bit more resilient." However, the couple were able to turn things around and in the sixth episode, the couple were able to keep a good pace on their journey. While working to save more money for their tight budget, Fin discussed his upbringing. He said: "Growing up for me, I realised, life isn't perfect and things happen." Fin then went on to discuss how he was diagnosed with type one diabetes when he was 11, after his mother found him unresponsive on the sofa. She then took him to the doctors where he found out he had the condition. He said: "It was a week in intensive care, then it was a week in just children's ward. Quite a lot for 11, I think. "Being diabetic there's a lot of complications that can come with it, you know, in your eyes, and I think my eyes are already going a little bit, and obviously, only being 18, it's not something you really want to think about, I don't think, but it's something you've got to think about." He also shared that two years after his diagnosis, they discovered that he had a tumour in his head. Fin explained: "I had surgery then, in my head, cause they found out what it was, but that was horrific. Being rushed up to a bigger hospital, this is not good. Obviously, you think you're going to die." The 18-year-old then broke down as he said he was fine now. He continued: "Now, I don't take anything for granted and this race is hard, but I'm just really trying to enjoy it, and so far I am and it's something I'll look back to and think, I'm so proud I did that." This isn't the first time Fin has opened up about his struggle with diabetes. In fact, since the series has aired he has been raising awareness and has spoken openly on social media about how it impacted him whilst on the show. The young couple from Carmarthenshire are now setting their sights on crossing the finishing line first (Image: BBC/Studio Lambert ) When the pair were interviewed by Wales Online, Fin said: "It was definitely a challenge and I knew it was going to be a challenge, but obviously because I don't know what I was going to be doing the next day, and I have a long acting insulin. "So, I didn't know if I was going to be active the next day, how much to give of this long acting insulin because then I could just drop next day." He continued: "It was a challenge that I definitely didn't think I would have been able to do a few years ago, but I'm very very glad I've done it now 100%. It was not easy."
