MD SEF urges partners to boost implementation, equity in education
HYDERABAD: In line with the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister Sindh, Chief Secretary Sindh, and Minister for Education Sindh, the Sindh Education Foundation the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) Government of Sindh organized a Regional Partners' Conference at Jamshoro, bringing together more than 250 school partners from Hyderabad Region. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration and align educational efforts with the evolving needs of students in underserved regions. The conference was presided over by Managing Director SEF, Gahanwer Ali Laghari, who reiterated SEF's commitment to ensuring both access to education and its quality. In his keynote address, the Managing Director, Gahanwer Ali Laghari emphasized the importance of engaging with all partners from the Hyderabad region who are operating SEF's formal and non-formal educational institutions. He praised their unwavering commitment to providing free and quality education, recognizing it as a commendable effort. And also thanked to VC LUMHS and their management for their support. He stated that this noble cause not only grants children in Sindh access to education but also contributes to broader avenues of sustainable development, aligning with global objectives. Acknowledging that there is always room for improvement, he urged all partners to fully implement the commitments made with the Government of Sindh and SEF. 'You must create an environment where children are happy to come to school,' he stressed. When partners requested to Managing Director to please bring the matter of subsidy to classify the per-child subsidy based on the geographical challenges of the schools. 'There should be a clear distinction between subsidies for schools operating in remote, hard-to-reach areas such as the deserts of Tharparkar, Johi, or Kachho, and those operating in urban areas,' and Managing Director assured them that he will bring this proposal to the concerned. The conference concluded with a strong message of transformational partnership, aiming to move beyond conventional education and prepare students for a future shaped by technology, innovation, and values. Sindh jacks up education budget by 18 per cent
The Sindh government has earmarked a total of Rs613.36 billion for the education sector in the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, covering all levels from primary to higher education. The allocation marks an 18 per cent increase over the Rs519 billion allocated for the public education sector in the outgoing financial year of 2024-25. According to the budget figures, Rs524.32 billion has been allocated for non-development expenditures, while Rs89.04 billion has been set aside for development projects. An amount of Rs3.2 billion has been allocated to cover registration and examination fees for students of government schools from grades 9 to 12, as well as to reward those who perform exceptionally in board examinations. To ensure access to learning materials, Rs5 billion has been reserved for the provision of free textbooks in public schools across the province. In a major boost to digital education, funding for the Digital Learning Programme under the Sindh Education Foundation has been increased from Rs3 billion to Rs19 billion. Budget allocations across various education levels have also seen significant increases: allocation for primary education has been Increased from Rs136.2 billion in financial year 204-25 to Rs156.2 billion in 2025-26 and that for middle/elementary education has been increased from Rs36.2 billion to Rs42.7 billion. Similarly, the allocation for secondary education has been increased from Rs68.5 billion to Rs77.2 billion and for college education, the allocation has been increased from Rs34 billion to Rs39 billion, the budget document read. Furthermore, Rs40 billion has been allocated for 31 public sector universities under the higher education budget.

Sindh: Education allocated Rs613bn
KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has allocated Rs 613.36 billion for the education sector in its budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. According to the budget document, the total education budget includes Rs 524.32 billion for service delivery and Rs. 89.04 billion for development. The School Education Department will receive funding, including Rs 13.5 billion for the Sindh Education Foundation, Rs 2.5 billion for grants to Deeni Madaris, Rs 1.4 billion for school scholarship programs and Rs 975 million for the NJV School Endowment Fund via Akhuwat Foundation In the College Education Department, Rs 2 billion has been earmarked for scholarships, while Rs 500 million will fund scholarships for students seeking higher studies abroad. The Universities & Boards Department will receive Rs 2 billion to cover exam and registration fees for intermediate students (Classes XI to XII), along with Rs 1.2 billion for the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi. Another Rs 1 billion has been allocated for the establishment of a vocational training centre. The University of Karachi will receive Rs 3.5 billion, University of Sindh, Jamshoro Rs 3.4 billion, NED University Karachi Rs. 2.5 billion, Mehran University, Jamshoro Rs 2.1 billion, IBA University, Sukkur Rs 1.9 billion, Quaid-e-Awam University and Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi will received allocations between Rs 1.6 billion and Rs 1.2 billion, respectively.
