Ujjain set to become centre for peace, spirituality: CM
Ujjain: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday said that Ujjain is set to become a significant centre for mental peace, spirituality and wellness care, with major infrastructure work currently ongoing in preparation for Simhastha 2028. "The Wellness Summit in Ujjain attracted investment proposals worth crores. Ujjain aims to become a centre for mental peace, spirituality and wellness care for the country and abroad. Infrastructure improvements, including a new four-lane road and railway station upgrades, are underway to facilitate the 2028 Simhastha. The Kanha Close Duct Project and Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi Project aim to keep the Shipra River clean and flowing for the holy bath during Simhastha," said Yadav while addressing the Bawdi festival as part of the Jal Ganga Conservation campaign. The campaign targets water conservation and the improvement of groundwater levels. He also planted a Sindoor tree under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at the Chintaman Ganesh Temple. The chief minister conducted the bhoomi pujan for various construction projects worth Rs 94 crore at Navakheda village in Ujjain on Friday. MP aims to boost spiritual and wellness tourism
Indore: In anticipation of the massive Simhastha spiritual gathering in 2028 and the rising tourist influx across spiritual circuits, the Madhya Pradesh govt is eyeing enhancements to its spiritual and wellness tourism offerings. The state is seeking investments in the sector to promote a blend of spirituality and health-focused initiatives. The Indore region, renowned for its key pilgrimage sites such as the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga and Omkareshwar, draws lakhs of devotees each month, providing a spiritual haven for visitors from across the nation. Aiming to capitalise on the growing interest in wellness experiences, the state govt is engaging in discussions with prominent wellness and Ayurveda chains to promote investment in the spiritual circuits and picturesque destinations within Madhya Pradesh. Chandramauli Shukla, managing director of the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC), said, "With changing traveller preferences, wellness and spiritual tourism is increasingly in demand. Madhya Pradesh holds immense potential in this sector, and we are committed to creating platforms for businesses to explore our offerings." To kick off these initiatives, the state will host its first-ever Spiritual and Wellness Summit on June 5 in Ujjain, drawing around 300 stakeholders from the hospitality and wellness industries. Shukla emphasised on the importance of positioning Ujjain as the central hub of India's wellness economy, particularly as it prepares to host the Kumbh Mela in 2028, an event anticipated to attract crores globally. The upcoming summit will feature panel discussions aimed at developing a cohesive wellness ecosystem, addressing workforce challenges, and exploring partnership models within the industry. With this focused approach, Madhya Pradesh aims to elevate its status as a premier destination for spiritual and wellness tourism, catering to an evolving market of health-conscious travellers.

Maha govt releases schedule for 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela, preparations begin
Nashik: The Maharashtra government has released the schedule for the Nashik Kumbh Mela and Amrit Snan (holy dip) to be held in 2027. The announcement of the dates of the Kumbh Mela was made on Sunday in the presence of the seers and mahants, and also Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. As per the schedule, Simhastha Flag Hoisting ceremony will take place on October 31, 2026, at 12.02 p.m. (Location-Ramkund Panchavati); Pratham Amrit Snan-Monday, August 2, 2027, Ashadh Somvati Amavasya; Mahakumbhasnan/Second Amrit Snan-August 31, 2027 and Shravan Amavasya; and Tritiya Amrit Snan-September 11, 2027, Bhadrapada Shuddha Ekadashi. The Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela will also take place on the same dates. Apart from this, all the days of 'Ekadashi', 'Pournima', 'Amavasya', 'Vaidhriti Vyatipat Yoga' during the Simhastha Parva period in Nashik will be pilgrimage and 'darshan parvas' for devotees. In addition to the three main 'parvas' in Kumbh Mela 2027 in Nashik, there are a total of 44 'muhurtas' for 'Parvasnana' and a total of 53 muhurtas for 'parvasnanap at Trimbakeshwar, said the government release. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, 'All efforts will be made by the state government to ensure that the Kumbh Mela is held in a safe, clean and holy environment. All kinds of facilities will be provided to the devotees coming for the Kumbh Mela. Funds will be made available for this. Since the Kumbh Mela is a symbol of Indian Sanatan culture, the attention of the whole world is on it. Therefore, with the cooperation of everyone, a grand, divine and memorable event will be organised that will amaze the world." 'The Kumbh Mela is conducted by the akhads, sadhus and mahants, and the state government will provide good facilities. The sadhus and mahants have a lot of experience in the organisation of Kumbh Mela, so their guidance will be useful. In 2015, the period for preparation for the Kumbh Mela in Nashik was shorter. This time, the government is making good preparations as there is more time for prior preparation,' said the chief minister. 'Kumbh Mela aims to ensure that the Godavari remains pure and flowing forever, and this is the government's effort. Measures are being taken to maintain the sanctity of the Godavari River. A sewage management project will ensure that the water flowing into the Godavari is clean, and tenders are being floated. Efforts will be made to ensure that impure water does not enter the riverbed. If the river continues to flow, it will remain pure; necessary planning is being done for that,' said the chief minister. Stating that the government will make necessary plans keeping in mind the suggestions of the sadhus and mahants, CM Fadnavis said that necessary facilities will be provided for the akhadas. Land will be acquired so that the Sadhugram site can be used permanently. He added that the road network is being prepared. Efforts are being made for proper planning to avoid congestion at Kushawart. Nashik divisional commissioner Pravin Gedam said that since more devotees are likely to come to the Simhastha Kumbh Mela this time, crowd control will be a big challenge. Along with the three Amrit Snans, other Parv Snans will be held. The work of the Kumbh Mela is going on at a fast pace, and tenders for more than Rs 4,000 crore have been published, of which tenders for Rs 2,600 crore will be floated soon. He added that all these works will be completed before January 2027.

The projects include the construction of ghats along river Kshipra for Rs 778.91 cr and the construction of a barrage, stop dam, and vented causeway for Rs 84.78 cr. Water resources minister Tulsiram Silawat said for the convenience of devotees along the Kshipra river in Ujjain district, approximately 30 km of ghats will be constructed on both banks, from Shani Mandir to the Nagda bypass, at an estimated cost of Rs 778.91 cr. The project is targeted for completion by Dec 2027. In addition, the water resources department will construct nine barrages on the Kshipra river — one each in Ujjain and Indore districts and seven in Dewas district. The Ujjain Municipal Corporation will also undertake the repair of the Kaliadeh stop dam. Furthermore, 11 barrages will be built on the Kanh river — five in Ujjain district and six in the Indore district. The total estimated cost for these works is Rs 84.78 cr.
