BBC Breakfast likened to ‘the Hunger Games' amid toxicity claims and Naga Munchetty bullying row

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE Sun's exposé on toxic BBC Breakfast has ripped a chasm through the show — with staff likening the workplace to Hunger Games. We told this week how editor Richard Frediani is on extended leave amid bullying claims, and separate complaints were made about host Naga Munchetty. Staff are terrified about what is going to come out in case they are caught in the crossfire. A source said: 'Breakfast is no longer just divided, it's been ripped apart. "Some workers back Frediani's tougher, more traditional journalistic approach and think the 'softies' need thicker skin. 'Others find him to be a bully and have welcomed the investigation into his behaviour. That already created two camps on the show. But the revelations about Naga have thrown a new twist on the scandal. 'Some find her a passionate advocate of people behind the scenes, while others find her as difficult as Fredi. 'This explosive mix has led to a deluge of revelations from both sides, creating a huge headache for the BBC as it scrambles to mop up the mess. It's everyone for themselves like the Hunger Games.' Naga arrived for work promptly yesterday despite our front page on two complaints lodged against her for bullying and making a slang term for a sexual act. Viewers noticed Naga, 50, and co-host, Charlie Stayt, 63, failed to browse the day's newspapers, as is customary. She also looked tense as the pair smoked cigarettes outside the Salford studio. BBC star Naga Munchetty hauled in by bosses over allegations she BULLIED a junior staffer and 'made an off-air sex jibe' Naga, who has also worked across Radio 5 Live, was hauled before bosses for the incidents in 2022 and 2024 and reprimanded but no formal action was taken. Her supporters believe she is at the 'end of her tether' with the fractious working environment. They add: 'Naga finds the whole situation frustrating, particularly with Fredi. 'She is passionate about speaking up if she believes something is wrong, has spoken to people who are unhappy and is always trying to help others behind the scenes.' However, another insider has shared opinion that Frediani's tough leadership may be a response to Naga's behaviour, not the cause of the problem. The source said: 'Managing Naga is a full-time job. She makes it incredibly hard to do the job and when Fredi tries to enforce boundaries and run a tight ship, he gets accused of being draconian. 'People are too scared to challenge her, because of who she is.' Among the divide are those who are just trying to uphold the BBC's standards on the show. A separate source said: 'The fact remains that bad behaviour is bad behaviour and no one — be it bosses, talent, crew — should be above reproach.' BBC said: 'While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.' Naga and Frediani's representatives were approached for comment. 4 We told this week how editor Richard Frediani, centre, is on extended leave amid bullying claims Credit: Getty Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.

Every Gmail account user should check one setting immediately

Every Gmail account user should check one setting immediately Google is warning all users to make some important security changes to their Gmail, Google and YouTube accounts Gmail users have been urged to make a simple change to protect themselves from being targeted by hackers (Image: SOPA Images, SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images ) Online safety should be at the top of everyone's priority list, with Gmail and Google users being strongly advised to change one of their security settings quickly. It comes after an FBI report revealed the true scale of cruel online scams. The FBI claimed cybercriminals siphoned off more than £12billion in 2024 alone, with such attacks seeing a major 33% spike. Despite widespread knowledge about the dangers of cybercrime, shockingly weak passwords remain commonplace, leaving countless people vulnerable to these sophisticated hackers. ‌ Astonishingly simple combinations like "password", "qwerty", and "123456" are still frequently used. Given the astronomical losses to scammers, Google is urging its users to put some upgrades on their account security. ‌ The tech giant recommends moving past traditional password protection in favour of cutting-edge alternatives such as Sign in with Google and passkeys. For those not aware, these updates login methods allow you to have fewer passwords and let you access accounts using fingerprint and facial recognition, taking advantage of biometric recognition for access. These security measures aren't new and have been available for some time, but it appears that uptake varies depending on age ranges. Data suggests that more than 60% of Gen Xers and Baby Boomers carry on using conventional passwords as their main authentication tool, reports the Mirror. Switching your password can protect you from losing everything to cybercriminals and hackers (Image: Moyo Studio via Getty Images ) Article continues below Notably, the younger Gen Z demographic is shunning old-fashioned security measures such as wordy passwords, instead favouring more sophisticated authentication tools. Google's Evan Kotsovinos said: "We want to move beyond passwords altogether, while keeping sign-ins as easy as possible, so we strongly encourage using modern methods like Sign in with Google and passkeys, which can be stored in and synced across your devices with Google Password Manager. "Passkeys are phishing-resistant and can log you in simply with the method you use to unlock your device (like your fingerprint or face ID) - no password required. And when you pair the ease and safety of passkeys with your Google Account, you can then use Sign in with Google to log in to your favourite websites and apps - limiting the number of accounts you have to maintain. Gen Z's embrace of these tools actually represents a big step forward for collective security." ‌ The FBI claimed cybercriminals siphoned off more than £12billion in 2024 alone, with such attacks seeing a major 33% spike (Image: Getty ) For those who find this too technical, there's an alternative - enable 2-Step Verification (2SV). This feature adds an extra layer of security by requiring a separate code for login, which is typically sent to another device that the account holder possesses. Kotsovinos added: "For people who still prefer passwords, we have tools like 2-Step Verification (2SV), the Google Authenticator App and Google Password Manager - that provide a second line of defence so that a password alone can't empower a bad actor." Article continues below Cyber threats are here to stay. If you don't want to become the next victim, then it's a good idea to follow this advice and switch away from passwords or add an extra layer of security.

We visited i Light Singapore 2025 and here are the best 8 installations you should check out

Singapore's mega light art festival is lighting up the city once again. i Light Singapore 2025 is finally here, with 17 striking installations spread out across various locations at Marina Bay, South Beach, Singapore River and Raffles Place. We got a sneak peek of the installations before they open to the public, and here's the lowdown on the must-see highlights you won't want to miss. It's a visual feast, so make sure your phone and camera are fully charged – and don't hesitate to bring along handheld lights too. If you've got the time, we definitely recommend exploring all 17 artworks. But if you're after a quick hit of the festival's highlights, here are the top installations you absolutely shouldn't miss. 1. Saulux Location: Fountain Plaza, South Beach Avenue Level 1 Saulux encourages you to engage with nature in a playful, sensory way. This immersive patch of slender twigs is embedded with sensors that detect your movement, triggering each twig to respond with bursts of light and sound. Go ahead and run your fingers through the installation and watch the glowing landscape come to life. 2. Mozart Artist: StudioGEAR (China) Location: Helix Steps at Marina Bay At first glance, this installation resembles a massive glowing orb. But take a closer look and you'll discover a deconstructed grand piano hidden in plain sight. Each step on the staircase functions as a piano key, lighting up and producing sound as you move. The ambient soundscape features reimagined versions of Mozart's compositions, and with every step you take, you're composing your own unique melody. It's also a fun way to sneak in a cardio session as you walk up and down the stairs. 3. Take a walk through the meadow with me Artist: Megan Tan and Tan Shao Xuan (Singapore) Location: Lawn beside NTUC building at Marina Bay The name says it all – Take a walk through the meadow with me invites you to stroll through a glowing field of flowers crafted from repurposed acrylic waste. Each flower lights up and emits a gentle melody upon sensing movement, creating an enchanting symphony and visual spectacle as more people join in. It's a beautiful reminder that even discarded trash can be transformed into something magical. 4. Sign Artist: Vendel and de Wolf (The Netherlands) Location: The Promontory at Marina Bay Sign is an installation that commands attention from afar – the fiery red glow is visible from across the waters. Each 'flame' is formed from bamboo poles wrapped in reflective aluminium tape, flickering as light catches the surface. Designed to resemble flames dancing in the air, the installation creates the illusion of a giant campfire, drawing crowds to gather around it in awe. 5. Bridge of 1,000 dreams Artist: Studio Toer (The Netherlands) Location: Cavenagh Bridge at the Singapore River This towering installation is crafted from a thousand bamboo sticks, like its name suggests, symbolising the power of collective imagination and the determination it takes to bring a grand vision to life. Take a closer look and you'll spot Singapore-inspired motifs on each stick, intricately designed by local studio Binary Style. Bridge of 1,000 Dreams has been extended and will be available till July 20, 2025. 6. This is Not a Screen Location: South Beach Avenue, Level B1 This installation cleverly captures the idea that everyone sees things differently, especially in today's digital age. At its core is a luminous monolith projecting vibrant geometric shapes, and surrounding it are movable screens of varying sizes and angles. As you rotate these screens and peer through them, the light from the centre distorts, offering a unique perspective each time. It's an interactive experience that gets even more fun when you compare what you and your friends each saw. 7. Embrace Artist: Beamhacker (Australia) Location: Event Square at Marina Bay Embrace is a fun one to check out, especially if you're visiting with a big group of friends. Made just for i Light Singapore 2025, the installation is inspired by children's paper chain dolls and comes to life through human touch. To activate it, everyone needs to stand between the figures and hold hands with the figures. Once the circle is complete, the figures glow in vibrant colors while a beautiful melody fills the air. 8. VJYourself! Get ready to show off your best dance moves at this installation. VJYourself! acts like a mirror, capturing your every movement and projecting it onto a giant wall – with a fun twist. You'll see multiple versions of yourself in a playful montage, complete with cool special effects that bring your performance to life. T-Mobile has already given phone buyers a reason not to pick any other carrier this year

When T-Mobile smashed a new uplink speed record last week, it only briefly mentioned UL Tx Switching, though this underemphasized detail should actually give you even more reason to be excited. The company's new speed record may be little more than a marketing claim, but Release 17 UL Tx Switching is the real deal. This tech allows smartphones to make the most of their hardware for sending data, improving reliability and efficiency by ensuring the most optimal path is used at any given moment. T-Mobile may be veering away from its Uncarrier ethos, but the carrier very much continues to deliver on the technological front. Uplink speed, or the rate at which data is sent from a device, is the next big thing, according to T-Mobile . For the longest time, everyone obsessed over download speeds, but in an age where many are uploading data more frequently, uplink speed is no longer a metric to be discussed in passing. It's as important as download speed for power users, gamers, and content creators these days. T-Mobile set an uplink speed record of 550 Mbps in the sub-6 GHz spectrum using 5G Advanced technology. The company was the first to do a live demo of the R17 UL Tx Switching feature on a commercial site. This achievement comes a month after the deployment of 5G Advanced by the carrier. 5G Advanced is a new category of 5G and will allow for better network performance and capacity, resulting in higher speed, reliability, and efficiency. Now, as Mike Thelander, president of Signals Research Group notes (as reported by Fierce Wireless) T-Mobile likely conducted its speed test in a carefully selected position near a cell site. That's not reflective of where most users use their phones though, so an average user may not be able to hit this peak speed. While that doesn't make the record any less impressive, it means that you may not necessarily notice faster uploads. Besides, not many applications require such insane speeds. The more interesting detail here, according to Thelander, is uplink transmit switching. —Mike Thelander, president of Signals Research Group, May 2025, UL Tx switching is a feature that lets a device dynamically switch between different uplink paths. The use of multiple uplink technologies, such as carrier aggregation and MIMO, allows the tech to get the most out of a phone's hardware. This essentially expands uplink capacity and boosts speed by enabling seamless switching and a combination of different frequencies. T-Mobile likened it to "taking the 5G superhighway and adding new faster lanes with spare capacity for traffic to zoom faster than ever." T-Mobile hasn't started deploying this feature yet but Thelander expects it to be available in some markets soon. It's also not clear which phones support the tech. Thelander implies that most modern handsets don't, but some upcoming smartphones might. Since the feature was defined in 3GPP Release 17, which isn't the newest 5G standard any longer, most current Android flagships and the iPhone 16 family may support it, but that's just a guess on our part. In any case, Thelander seems to suggest that current phones don't support R17 UL Tx Switching. If you consider yourself a power user and seek exceptional uplink performance, you will want to stick with T-Mobile , despite whatever grievances you may have with it. This is especially true if upcoming flagships will support the feature, as it will be of no use on other networks.
