Sabrina Carpenter addresses 'Man's Best Friend' album art backlash

The Grammy-winning singer debuted the album art last week for the Aug 29 release of 'Man's Best Friend'. Photo: Handout Sabrina Carpenter is breaking her silence on her controversial new album cover that has displeased some fans. The Grammy-winning Espresso crooner, 26, debuted the album art last week for the Aug 29 release of Man's Best Friend, which shows the Disney Channel alum on her knees in a short black dress and matching stilettos as a man pulls her signature blonde tresses. Her post is restricted on Instagram for users 18 and over. 'Does she have a personality out side of sex?' asked one disgruntled X user. 'Girl yes and it is goooooood,' responded the Please, Please, Please singer, whose tongue-in-cheek lyrics and Short n' Sweet tour often delve into the sexually explicit. Those on X weren't alone in criticising the art, which Glasgow Women's Aid decried as 'regressive' and less 'subversion' than promoting 'tired stereotypes of women.' The day after making the album art public, fashion photographer David LaChapelle's nude portrait of Carpenter made waves as the cover of Rolling Stone's Summer Double Issue. 'It's always so funny to me when people complain,' Carpenter told the magazine. 'They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it.' Though the show is full of innuendo and sexually charged choreography, Carpenter said there are also 'ballads' and 'the more introspective numbers. 'I find irony and humour in all of that. … I'm not upset about it, other than I feel mad pressure to be funny sometimes,' she continued, adding later that she feels 'like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinised in every capacity'. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

Now, Carpenter herself has hit back at the negative remarks. Sabrina Carpenter maintained her playful charm while hitting back at a netizen criticizing the cover art for her upcoming album 'Man's Best Friend.' While the 26-year-old singer has entered a new era, she is continuing her sexy vixen persona. Notably, this has been the highlight of her 'Short n' Sweet' breakthrough album run. The racy NSFW cover art shows Carpenter, dressed in a black minidress, bending down on her knees. The 'Espresso' hitmaker seemingly goes into the submissive style position for a man who stands nearby, loosely gripping some of her blonde hair. Days after the remark, Carpenter hit back at the criticism. Carpenter didn't shy away from subtly, as well as charmingly, bashing the netizen's critical remark on her album's cover art. Sabrina Carpenter considers banning phones at her concerts

Sabrina Carpenter fans may soon find themselves locking up their phones at her concerts after recent comments the singer-songwriter made to Rolling Stone. 'This will honestly piss off my fans, but absolutely,' Carpenter said when asked about the possibility of requiring concert-goers to drop their phones into pouches during her shows. The 'Espresso' singer said that her opinion on having phones at concerts changed after she attended a Silk Sonic concert in Las Vegas at which she had to lock up her own phone. 'I've never had a better experience at a concert,' Carpenter said. 'I genuinely felt like I was back in the Seventies — wasn't alive. Genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone's singing, dancing, looking at each other, and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.' Appearing on the latest cover of the magazine, Carpenter weighed in on a variety of topics including why she released a new album so soon after 'Short n' Sweet,' her new single 'Manchild,' which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the intense scrutiny she and many other women face. 'I don't want to be pessimistic, but I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now …. We're in such a weird time where you would think it's girl power, and women supporting women, but in reality, the second you see a picture of someone wearing a dress on a carpet, you have to say everything mean about it in the first 30 seconds that you see it,' she told Rolling Stone. Carpenter's latest album, 'Man's Best Friend,' recently made headlines for its provocative cover art, which was released on June 11. The image depicts the 'Bed Chem' singer wearing a black dress, on all fours next to a man's leg, with his hand clutching her hair. Fans took to the internet to weigh in, with some calling the art 'disturbing' and 'not a very empowering image for women.' However, others viewed the album cover as a nod to 'how women are regarded by certain men.' As for constantly being commented on online, Carpenter told Rolling Stone, 'When you get down the little rabbit hole is truly when people start commenting on you as a person or you physically. All of those things that you're already thinking on a day-to-day basis. You don't need a stranger from Arkansas to remind you.'

Sabrina Carpenter Considered Banning Phones During Her Concerts

If you've ever been to a Sabrina Carpenter show, then you already know it's full of Short n' Sweet treats. So much so, you might want to record her next 'Juno' position or have the entirety of 'Tornado Warnings' on your camera roll to soundtrack your next crash out. Either way, snapping those memories might not even be an option during her concerts in the future. During an interview with Rolling Stone, the 'Manchild' singer got candid about playing live shows and how it feels to see a crowd full of phone cameras aimed at her. Of course, she's no stranger to lenses as a Grammy-winning pop star, but she revealed that she might consider banning phones from her shows at some point in her blossoming career, as artists like Madonna, Adele, and Bob Dylan have done in the past. 'This will honestly piss off my fans, but absolutely,' Sabrina admitted when asked if she'd ban phones. 'Because I went to see Silk Sonic in Vegas, and they locked my phone. I've never had a better experience at a concert. I genuinely felt like I was back in the Seventies — wasn't alive. Genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone's singing, dancing, looking at each other, and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.' At the end of the day, the 'Bed Chem' artist understands why she's faced with a crowd full of phones and 'doesn't blame' her fans for wanting to preserve the moment. 'I've grown up in the age of people having iPhones at shows,' she continued. 'It unfortunately feels super normal to me. I can't blame people for wanting to have memories. But depending on how long I want to be touring, and what age I am, girl, take those phones away.' She then playfully added, 'You cannot zoom in on my face. Right now, my skin is soft and supple. It's fine. Do not zoom in on me when I'm 80 years old up there.'
