Learner driver smashes car into side of Scots home after ploughing through fence
A white Nissan ploughed through a fence and crashed into a house in Dunfermline, Fife. A car sporting learner plates has smashed through a garden fence and crashed into a home on a Scots street. Yesterday at around 8.33pm, emergency crews raced to Kerrisk Drive in Dunfermline after a white Nissan ploughed into a residential property through a wooden fence off Aberdour Road. Images from the scene show the area around the car, which sported a learners L-plate, taped off. Emergency crews were in attendance. The car, which had only been road taxed on June 1 2025, seemed to have crashed into an extension attached to the home. Three appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene. Firefighters were met by a collision involving a car and a building, however, there were no reported casualties. The fire service left the scene after making sure the area was safe. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.33pm on Monday, 16 June to reports of a road traffic collision in Dunfermline. "Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the town's Kerrisk Drive, where firefighters were met by a collision involving a car and a building. "Crews worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene. "There were no casualties." Last week, in a separate incident, we reported that a BMW driver ploughed into an Edinburgh garden as terrified kids took cover in their homes. On the evening of May 10, Shona Halliday was at her house in Dalkeith when a motorist"came through the fence to her garden". Footage from the garden shows the BMW 3 series on the lawn, with damage to the front of the vehicle and the wooden fence crumpled underneath. Shona and her neighbour both have 13-year-old boys, who she said "could have been out playing in the garden". Officers have since arrested a 32-year-old driver, who is due to appear in court on July 2. Police have said no injuries were reported. Shona said: "This happened at 9.05pm last night on Thornybank Grove. "He drove into the Woodburn pavilion car park, then drove right through the boundary fence through my garden and through me and my neighbour's fence. Then was trying to reverse back out. "Neighbour and a bystander got him out the car and held him till the police came. No one was hurt but myself and my neighbour has 13-year-old boys who could have been out in the garden, such a shock. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 9.05pm on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025, we received a report of a one vehicle crash on Thornybank Grove, Dalkeith. 'Officers attended, and no injuries were reported. The driver, a 32-year-old man, was arrested and charged in connection with a driving offence and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 2 July, 20." Zimbabwe hearings over Mugabe-era massacre to start 26 June
BULAWAYO - Long-awaited hearings on notorious 1980s massacres by troops in Zimbabwe will commence on 26 June, a panel of chiefs set up by the country's President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced Sunday. Tens of thousands of people were killed over several years in the so-called Gukurahundi massacres under former leader Robert Mugabe, a few years after Zimbabwe's independence from Britain. Mnangagwa last year announced that survivors would be interviewed in a series of village hearings, in a bid to settle longstanding grievances and tensions. "The hearings are starting on the 26th of June" and will be presided by traditional chiefs and a panel of community members, Chief Fortune Charumbira told a press conference in Bulawayo, in the Matabeleland region where the massacres were committed. "Our approach is victim-centred," Charumbira said, adding the hearings would be closed to the media because of the sensitivity and "private nature" of some of the stories. A report would be submitted to the president and financial compensation would be considered, he said, but added that the modalities and amounts could not be "predetermined before the hearings". ESTIMATED 20,000 KILLED Starting in 1983, Mugabe deployed an elite North Korean-trained army unit to crack down on a revolt in the western Matabeleland region, the heartland of the Ndebele minority. They killed an estimated 20,000 people over several years, according to the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace in Zimbabwe, a toll supported by Amnesty International. The operation was named Gukurahundi, a term in the majority Shona language that loosely translates as "the early rain that washes away the chaff". Critics say it targeted dissidents loyal to Mugabe's rival, fellow revolutionary leader Joshua Nkomo. Most of the victims belonged to the minority Ndebele tribe. Mugabe, who died in 2019, never acknowledged responsibility for the massacres, dismissing evidence gathered by Amnesty International as a "heap of lies". After taking power in 2017, Mnangagwa promised a resolution and set up a panel of chiefs to probe the massacres. But activists said the process was flawed as there had been no official government apology and victims were not consulted. Activist Mbuso Fuzwayo on Sunday dismissed the initiative as "a sham from the start". 'This is being dealt with from the position of the perpetrator and not the victims," he told AFP. "Some of the known perpetrators are people in positions of power and they are the ones who led the initiative from the start," Fuzwayo said. Mnangagwa, who has previously described the massacres as "a bad patch" in Zimbabwe's history, was security minister at the time but has always denied any responsibility.

Earlier today, in a separate incident, we reported that two women have died in a horror crash on a busy Scots road, as another pensioner was airlifted to hospital. Emergency crews rushed to the A98 near Enzie, Buckie, at around 12.30pm yesterday, Tuesday June 10, after receiving a report of a collision involving a Vauxhall Insignia and a Peugeot 2008. Upon attendance the 32-year-old female driver of the Vauxhall and the 77-year-old female passenger of the Peugeot were pronounced dead at the scene. The 77-year-old male driver of the Peugeot was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where hospital staff describe his condition as serious but stable. Sergeant Dave Cooper from the Road Policing Unit in Elgin said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two women who died. 'An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing and we would appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash who has not already spoken to officers, or those who have any dashcam footage that may capture either vehicle prior to the collision, to please come forward. 'I haven't got that worried about it the last six weeks or so – I haven't even been to see anyone, just a pharmacist. 'But today I've taken myself to eye casualty and I'm so emotional about it because it hurts and Matt is working away and my whole family – apart from me – are on holiday t.'* She added: 'But I've pulled myself together and come to the hospital. 'Everything is swollen & my eyes have puss [sic] coming out of them!' Shona said her day started trying not to cry but it quickly spiralled. 'I started the day trying not to cry and ended up spending my day crying,' she admitted. 'I've left eye casualty now – I wasn't actually there for long – but I cried again because she said I can't use anything on my face. 'And I cried again because I've got my acne under control with the skincare I use and I just imagined that all going back to where it was before.' The telly favourite said she left the hospital with no prescription, but a firm warning to ditch her current eye drops. MAFS' Shona hits back at trolls who branded her promise ring 'pointless' after reunion 'proposal' 'They said not to take the antihistamine drops the pharmacist gave me, to continue taking the Chlorphenamine tablets (drowsy antihistamine tablets) and just put a cold compress on till the swelling goes down.' Doctors also advised her to avoid putting anything on her face and figure out what she might be allergic to. The reality star found fame on Married at First Sight UK in 2023 but left the show early because of her unhealthy relationship with Brad Skelly. She met her boyfriend Matt Pilmoor soon after through the show. The Sun told how Shona had found love with Matt, despite tying the knot to different people on the series. Matt married Adrienne Naylor, but the pair struggled to hit it off straight away. A REAL WEDDING Matt told OK! Magazine: 'We definitely want to get married. Getting married abroad would be lovely but, logistically, we would do it in the UK for family coming and stuff like that.' Shona continued: 'Yeah, we've spoken about getting married. Matt has said he will wear a kilt because my family are Scottish. We would get married here in the UK and have an amazing honeymoon, maybe in Bali. We've spoken about engagement rings, we just need the money first.'
